History

Established in 1979.

M. Clara’s Alterations had been a fixture in Yorkville for over 20 years. Just as the proprietors of that fine establishment were preparing to retire, Taraneh Galk was completing a long career as a tailor with retailers like Harry Rosen. She’d honed her craft and was looking for a new challenge. M. Clara’s Alterations had always been known for excellence in ability and customer service — and so was Tara… it was a perfect fit!

Tara became the proud proprietor of M. Clara’s Alterations in 2007. At that time she was located at 101 Yorkville Avenue. Her business grew and she moved to 111 – 113 Yorkville Avenue. (second floor) There you will find her, still offering the same fine skills and friendly customer service she’s become known for.

Business Owner

Taraneh, or «Tara» as she is known to her many regular customers, started showing an aptitude for sewing as a young girl in her native Iran. Her earliest «customers» were her dolls, but by her twelfth birthday she was skilled enough to make clothes for her Mom and four sisters. Formal education began for Tara at the age of 14, and as her talent blossomed, she earned multiple certificates in dressmaking, tailoring, and design.
