In May 2007, the Ontario Access to Justice Act, made the Law Society of Uper Canada (the same governing body that regulates lawyers) responsible for regulating the Paralegal profession in Ontario. Paralegals can provide legal services within the permitted scope of practise, and must be licensed by the Law Society.
Although I have over 12 years experience, I became part of the first group of Paralegals to be licensed by the Law Society of Upper Canada on March 31, 2008.
