Its 10 bucks a month. You get tiny change rooms but decent equipment.
Not always super packed and off times you have your pick of a ton of cardio equipment.
The fees are monthly rather than year or by week.
Sadly they still tried to charge us an extra month when we quit, even though we cancelled before the date we were told was the cut-​off to be charged for another month.

If I say the words: Smiths. Machines.
and you understand what this means and are just as offended as anyone else that lifts… Avoid.
No lifting was done here ever. Or can be.
No judgement/​No critics my sweet ass. I’ve never been judged so much by a crowd of people ever. Looked up and down like I was in a high school mean girls scene in the locker room because I have the audacity to have definition on my arms…
Hypocrites.
Stick to a local community centre or YMCA if you’re actually interested in training but are intimidated by heavy lifters.

This gym is amazing great price $ 11 and change as the sign up fee and only $ 10 a month. A bunch of machines even tho it’s generally busy you can always find a rotation in to try them all. The only complaint is that allot of people don’t bring locks and there maybe not enough lockers versus the amount of people who come so I’ve had to share lockers with friends before. Also I worry about the mall closing down soon although at $ 10 a month it won’t be a big hit if and when it does

I understand that this is a discount gym, but I think they can probably afford to clean the showers every day, and make sure that the shower curtains are free of mildew.
Besides that, the facilities are fine, though it would be nice if they had more free-​weights and some squat racks that aren’t Smith machines.

If you care about fitness or are a first timer who wants to get into shape this is not the place for you. The entire atmosphere of this gym is beta. Invest a bit extra in a gym that will have staff willing to help with teaching proper form.

Newish cheap no frills ²⁴⁄₇ gym, good equipment, but busy, to cold in winter, machines often broken and rarely fixed, very few free weights. Canceled my my membership after 2 months. Back to Goodlife ;)

Well, you sure as shite get what you pay for here. I’m a student, so I do appreciate having any $ 10/​month gym option. And when I go during the day, it’s not too busy, which lets me fumble around the machines with less embarrassment.
The staff, though, are laughably incompetent. And they – rather than fellow gym-​goers– make me feel like I’m on an episode of Jersey Shore. I love the Jersey Shore, so that isn’t all bad, but it is if you need any sort of help.
The other day, I asked how to get the TV audio to feed into the elliptical. The guy at the front counter told me the ellipticals couldn’t get sound. Then the girl next to him said, no, some of them get sound. So a third girl came over and started testing all the ellipticals before giving up and sort of frumping away quietly. I asked someone using the elliptical, and in about ten seconds they’d explained it to me. All the machines work – you just have to be using it before sound will start.
Another time my friend and I signed up for their create-​a-​program thing. We were ignored for the first twenty minutes as the staff member directed all her attention on someone else. Then, she proceeded to try and sell us weight-​loss pills. Neither of us are remotely overweight. It was kind of hilarious. We now refer to the gym as «Planet ShitForBrains.»

So for less than $ 12 a month for membership, there is little to complain about. It’s not perfect, there aren’t really classes, no swimming pools and it’s PACKED at rush hour times. But, it’s clean, there’s staff there all the time, you can usually get a machine, even if you have to wait a bit. In non-​rush hours, it can even be pretty empty.
For $ 20 you can have access to a tanning bed, other machines and bring in a friend with you for free every time.
It is packed with big dudes on the weights all the time, so I tend not to use them, that’s my one complaint, but, at $ 12 (plus a once a year $ 30 fee), how can anyone complain?
Also, 24 hours, which is cool.

I visited this location for one reason and one reason only… to see how many (if any) stair mills PF had. I’m currently a member of another gym, but my gym only has one stair mill, and it’s really hard to get a hold of because someone is always on it (especially during peak hours). I’m currently working on a muscle-​building program that requires the stair mill on at least two days/​week.
I received the PF promotional flyer in my mail quite a few times, so I thought it couldn’t hurt to check it out, considering the price. Before I start, I’d like to point out that I had heard about PF through several different online sources, so I was prepared for the «judgment-​free zone», pizza, bagels, and tootsie rolls PF offers. Also, I am well aware of the lunk alarm (although, I didn’t actually see it yesterday) and what infractions can trigger it to sound.
I got to the gym, signed in, and was taken through a tour of the gym. It was fairly busy (around 6:15 p.m.). The first thing I was told was that PF is a judgment-​free zone, and that they don’t cater to body builders. The cardio equipment inventory was impressive. There were tons of treadmills, ellipticals, cross-​ramps, and ARC trainers. I noted that they had only four stair mills. There was a separate ab workout area and a 30-​min circuit training area. There were plenty of weight machines as well, although I didn’t notice exactly what they had because my tour was speeding along at a fast rate. The locker room was incredibly small. I could see why there were complaints about the locker space on the Facebook page. It was pretty much standing room only with a small bench in the middle of the room. I made mention of the locker shortage complaints, and the reply was that they added more lockers (there were about 10 lockers on the gym floor). I doubt that solved the problem. Anyway, I didn’t bother checking out the shower area, so I can’t comment on that. I was shown the massage chair, the tanning beds, and the infrared hydro thing, but all these were not accessible with the basic membership.
Our tour was over fairly quickly, so I asked her if I could check out the free-​weight area again, because I didn’t notice it that much during my tour. We headed back that way, and I noticed that it was incredibly limited/​small and very busy. I was underwhelmed.
We sat down to discuss the memberships and she explained the two. Both are reasonably priced. She mentioned a monthly withdrawal option. I asked her if there was a pay-​for-​the-​full-​year option and she said no. They only accepted monthly withdrawal options. I told her that didn’t sit well with me, because I’ve been burned by gyms before, and I didn’t like giving gyms access to my account. I told her it wasn’t going to work and she ripped up my papers and began walking away. I guess I was of no use to her anymore.
Needless to say, I didn’t join. I gave it two stars, because of the lack of free-​weights, benches, etc., the small change room, and the way I was dismissed at the end.

If you like gyms with 1 water fountain for all 100+ people working out, then this gym’s for you. Also, half the machines are broken at all times and when you ask the staff when they’re fixing them, they say «we’ll get to it»! Awesome.

This is the first gym I have joined officially (except university fitness centres, public community centres, and pan am facility), so I cannot compare it to the other gyms around town. This gym offers a wide range of machines, dumbbells ranging from 5−75lb (small section), 4 smith machines, cables, and plenty of cardio machines. Even at peak hours the gym had plenty of options always free. Locker space is very limited at peak hours though. Thankfully, they’ve been using the lunk alarm less often lately, which really causes you to loss focus during sets. When it goes off it feels like you have a bad case of PTSD.
For the price, it’s an easy decision to join when you’re just looking to get into shape, without the full ecosystem of services the other much more expensive places offer. The biggest benefit personally, is the 24 hour access.

This is a standard commercial gym that you get exactly what you pay for. Just like any other, their business model is based on selling too many memberships than they can actually handle (imagine if everyone actually used the gym a few times per week… and people are already complaining there is not enough equipment and these guys just opened!) Not to mention they give free pizza on Mondays so that you keep coming back to burn that off.
Bottom line: if you want a cheap gym to use general equipment, Planet Fitness might be the best. Just keep in mind they only care about your monthly payment and that’s all, not to mention you are supporting yet another huge corporation (especially in an area that is trying to evolve its small business structure). Comparing them to a smaller gym like Oliphants is not fair — not the same game let alone the same ballpark.

I’ve been a member here for about 2 months. For roughly 12 $/​month, the value is outstanding. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
–As mentionned, the value! There is a gym near my appt which charges 5 times what Planet Fitness charges, and it is a quarter of the size. I think the price genuinely helps people want to make a healthy change in their lives, because it’s easy to justify 12 $ a month rather than 50 – 60, and removes all excuses of «I can’t afford a gym, it’s too expensive.». More gyms should adopt this business model and I am proud to be a part of this one!
–Lots of individual areas for different things (ab area, 30 min worout area, stretching area, free weights, lines of cardio machines, strength machines etc)
–AMPLE free parking at the galleria mall, which is mostly deserted every time I go (except for the FreshCo)
–I personally love seeing people of ALL shapes and sizes at the gym. I think the approach of the «judgement free zone» is brilliant. When you are overweight, you tend to get into a frame of mind that you are «too fat for the gym». By encouraging people of all fitness levels to become members here, people are actually able to see that «too fat for the gym» is complete bull. I’ve seen strangers go up to each other here to encourage those that look new, or intimidated, or are new at the whole fitness lifestyle. It’s been awesome to see.
–washrooms and showers are clean
Cons:
–Depending on which staff member is manning the check in counter, service can be rude or sporadic. I’ve stood around for several minutes on several occasions waiting for someone to just take my card to scan in. I understand that one staff member might be busy talking to a customer or member, but every single time I’ve waited, there has been a second staff member at the counter «working» (rather, staring intently) at the computer, who clearly can see i’m standing there waiting but choose not to help out their coworker, and take the 3 seconds required to scan me in. When they do finally tear themselves away from the computer, it has been without saying hello or acknowledging that im there, and with a scowl on their face like they’d rather be anywhere but there (which is definitely not the welcoming, judgement free environment I think they’re trying to build).
Other times, I have been able to check in with no issues; quickly and efficiently. There are some «regular» staff that I see quite often that do an awesome job. They say hello (with a smile!), address members as soon as they walk in, and greet them with «have a good workout!» which i’m sure is company policy, but is nice to hear either way. It would be nice to have this sort of consistency with all staff.
–There are not nearly enough treadmills! Every single time I go to the gym between 5 – 8, it is incredibly busy and every treadmill is occupied. As mentionned, the gym in general can become quite busy at this time (which means, no lockers available, having to wait several minutes for machines etc) but waiting around for these to become free is not ideal. After 9 pm, or anytime on weekends is your best bet to work out without these delays, with lots of machines free.
Overall-​you can’t go wrong here. Yes, it can become busy or crowded. Yes staff service sometimes leaves a little to be desired, but if you are looking for a gym that has ALL your basics plus a little more that won’t break the bank, this is it. Hoping Planet Fitness will see what a success the Toronto market has been for them so far and want to expand to other cities!

Not to sure why this gym gets such wishy washy reviews. This is a new gym, which opened in late December I believe. I joined about a month ago & decided to try the $ 10/​month membership, at the time it was a $ 1 start up fee plus $ 30 yearly fee so I’d be paying about $ 151 plus tax yearly. You get to choose from a $ 10 membership that gets you a free t-​shirt, unlimited training, & access to home gym, the $ 20 membership gets you that and much more. The gym is located in a mall/​plaza so there is free parking, the gym itself is also open ²⁴⁄₇. The staff are okay, I like the fact that they don’t bother you while you’re working out. Can’t really comment on customer service since I haven’t really asked any questions, however the two times I’ve called to ask questions I did get a rude female answering each time.
I personally think this is an amazing value for the gym itself, This is the first gym I’ve ever joined and I think it’s great for beginners. In the past 2 years I’ve lost about 70 – 80 lbs by eating right and doing at home work outs and decided that I wanted to join a gym this year instead of working out at home. They have a variety of cardio equipment which is what I mostly use (bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers etc.) and yes their free weights section is a bit small, however there are a bunch of machines to work out your arms that I haven’t tried (I mostly go to the gym to do cardio). They have a 12 minute ab circuit workout as well as a 30 minute cardio circuit workout. The lockers are pretty small, you’re lucky if you get a full big locker but most of us will be stuck with the half lockers. The washrooms, change rooms, and showers are very clean. I hope they stay this way.
*If you choose to shower at the gym, they do not provide you with shampoo/​conditioner (I believe they have soap, call to make sure)
Bottom line is, for $ 10 or $ 20 a month I believe it is worth it however if you’re use to fancier gyms with classes, more selection, qualified experienced trainers then I don’t think you’d enjoy this place. This is a gym for regular folk that just want to workout. A weird bonus is that they offer free pizza every first Monday of the month and free bagels every first Tuesday of the month which i’ve never tried so I can’t comment on how good they are.

Good place to work out. Free parking is a bonus, $ 10 or 20 per month depending on level of membership is not hard to take either.
The members are from all walks of life, from older Portugese ladies, to Bloordale hipsters and serious body builders. It’s a nice cross section of the community.
The staff? Pretty flaky. Underpayed kids are like little robots on speed. Zero costumer service skills. They might as well be folding cloths at Jean Machine.
Forget the «Design Your Own Program» by staff Trainer. It’s all cookie cutter stuff. Would be nice to have some staff to float around to help one on one with equipment or questions but don’t count on that!
Small locker rooms with limited locker space especially during busy time is annoying. I think management is waiting for the New Year’s resolution crowds to diminish soon instead of spending more money to expand. Bring your gear in a shopping bag, my gym bag hardly fit in the small locker
Bottom line:
If you can come off hours to get some exercise with a workout plan of your own, it’s a good place to do it.
Instead of relying on staff to help, get a good book on body building. I highly recommend «Body for Life» by Bill Phillips.

I left Wallace Emerson Community Center to come here to work out.
Problem is, between 4pm-​9pm this place is completely rammed. What I mean is, the 50 lockers in the men’s change room cannot take the nearly 7,000 people who have signed up for Planet Fitness in the last 2 months. Twice I have been stranded in the change room while a mob of guys look for an empty locker to no avail.
If you intend on working out between 9pm-​3pm, this place is great. But if you have a job and work during the day, you won’t get a locker to throw your stuff in.
Planet Fitness’ Canadian debut has therefore been a huge success for PF’s wallet but a massive fail for customers.

A good gym, with $ 10/​month fees (plus that stupid annual admin fee they all charge) is good. Lots of «LifeFitness» brand equipment. Stripped down amenities, no sauna nor towel service. Their Black Card gets you access to massage chairs and the like. Open ²⁴⁄₇. Free parking.

The Cons about planet fitness:
If you take fitness seriously then planet fitness might NOT be the place for you. No squat racks, no bench’s to do free-​barbell presses and no barbells to do deadlifts. You have no choice but to use a smith machine to perform the lifts I mentioned above which is not good. The free weight area is small and dumbbells only go up to 75lbs. If you want to see how much you weigh, guess what? You can’t! They don’t even have a scale! How is there no scale in a gym? When I asked an employee she said it was because «Planet Fitness is a judgement free zone. If you’re weighing yourself you’d be judging yourself». It’s a nice marketing strategy thou, because it will prevent underachievers from canceling their memberships since they can’t see that they haven’t made any positive results. This is the only place where you will wipe pizza grease off the machines instead of sweat (explained below). They might as well rename the franchise to Planet Fatness! They brag about how they’ve signed up 7000+ members, but they have the locker room space to accommodate like 50 people. No matter what time of the day you arrive here you will have a hard time finding a locker in their small change room. There are absolutely NO classes being taught here, so don’t know what other reviewers are talking about? They also have their trademark «Lunk Alarm» (please google). I shouldn’t be surprised by all of this because their slogan is «We Are Not A Gym! We are Planet Fitness!»
The pros about planet fitness:
It’s 24hrs and only $ 10 a month!
This place is good for people new to the gym scene, New Years resolution type of people who will only show up for their first 3 weeks to never be seen again or insecure overweight folks. This gym has free pizza on select Mondays and free bagels on select Tuesdays (this should be a con considering this is a gym and this defeats the purpose of working out, but I know their target clientele who join this gym will love this). There is also plenty of free parking in the mall lot. This is still a great addition to the area and will bring back some life to Galleria Mall which is on its deathbed.

not sure how a person is reviewing something that doesn’t actually exist yet. Is a business not allow to WANT YOUR BUSINESS?
How were you planning on paying, with good intentions or stones from your yard? sure they want a secured payment through your checking account.
I too met the staff, all were nice, some we very new and the manager was quick to respond to questions they couldnt answer.
I’ve signed up, their fine print clearly states you can cancel at any time. I will remain positive…

$ 10 a month sounds too good to be true. Went in to get some info and they REALLY wanted me to sign up right then and there.
I live in the area, the pictures of other locations look promising but I’ve been burnt by gyms before. They ONLY let you pay with pre-​authorized access to your checking account. That’s always a sketchy sign.
Going to do some research and report back. Seems promising.
