Shopper’s Drug Mart

The chinese-​looking pharmacist at drop-​off window is very rude. When he found out that my prescription was issued by a US doctor, he threw literally the prescription back to me and yielded at me that «the canadian pharmacy only accept the prescription from canadian doctor».

A regular shoppers at the intersection of yonge & college. A homeless person with his dog was outside the shop & we paused to grab some food for the dog. Plus our own items. They didn’t have much selection for pet food! And it was all the junk food of pet foods. Well, I guess that’s all you can expect from shoppers. This location is cramped & busy. I wouldn’t shop here again. Though the cashiers & staff were nice.

I’ve only been to this location once, but was very impressed with the service in the Beauty Boutique. I wasn’t feeling well and was purchasing some items from the drugstore, but ventured into the beauty section, only to enter into a conversation with a very pleasant beauty advisor who was able to recommend a few products that address my needs. She was very attentive and professional. The store is very clean and well-​organized, despite the location and extended hours. Great selection of brands and products, too.
Note to Unilocal users: beware the ‘ghost location’: the other nearby Yonge street SDM no longer exists! The one at Carlton and Yonge is the one to seek out.

Very rude staff. They had a conniption when I brought my perfectly well behaved little dog into the store. Rather than accept my word that this was my therapy dog, they immediately insinuated I was lying demanded to see papers and were overall extremely unpleasant. Even the manager had very poor customer service skills. She basically said my dog was a public health hazard because medication was being sold in the store.
Meanwhile the pharmacists down the road are very welcoming to our dog and I will be taking my business there whenever possible.

SHOPPERS. I’m on to you!!! I go here literally 3 – 4 times a week to buy milk, club soda and household supplies. Their «sales» on club soda 12 packs are BOGUS. One week it will be on sale for $ 3.33, then another it will be on «sale» for $ 5…
However, the girls at the Post Office in the back are awesome. They are super nice and patient and answer all the dumb mailing questions I have.

Well, this is one of the best SDM in downtown area… I know there are some better ones in up north, but this is good enough thought.

The good: big store, good choices. 24 hours. Grocery section if you need an item or two while getting something more «drug store“y.
The bad: usually have, like, one cashier on. A dumb cashier, also usually. The line snakes all the way down, 20 people ahead of you. I tried once to buy two items at the photo section instead, where the cashier was sitting doing nothing, and she said you can’t. They really need to put more people behind cash.

There are exactly 2 good things about this location:
1) It’s 24 hours. Great if you have a craving or are feeling miserable at 3 AM and need medicine.
2) They have great loss-leader…think 80 cent packs of tissue and the like.
However…
1) When things are not on sale, prices are crazy expensive.
2) Good luck finding anything. Who decided how to organize this store?

A) Check-​out
B) Fill a prescription
C) Mail anything (and this is by far the worst).

This is a large shoppers that carries pretty much anything you need. They even have groceries like eggs and milk. I noticed that the sugar, coffee, eggs and cream cheese are often on sale. I buy my milk here. 2% 4L for under $ 4!

A 24 hour store, with a photo lab. Yet the lab closes at 8pm — utter fail.
It’s even worse because a shoppers down the street sent me there to get photos printed.

This is one of the worst Shoppers I’ve ever been in. The layout of this store is a joke. I went in once looking for midol and pads, and not only was midol not with the other medicines it wasn’t with pads, either. The checkouts are always incredibly crowded with a massive line snaking into the store, and the pharmacy staff were actually rude and unhelpful. I’ve started using the pharmacy inside the MLG Loblaws instead, which is much, much better. I only shop at this Shoppers when I absolutely have to or when it is the only thing open, since it’s 24 hour.

Typical Shoppers Drug Mart, which has a post office, large cosmetics section and a photo department. The bad news is that during peak times like lunch hour and 5:00 pm, it’s severely understaffed and the line gets unmanageable.
The cosmetic department is big but doesn’t carry Lise Watier, so go to the Eaton Centre or the two-​level Queen Street Shoppers for that particular brand.
The pharmacy itself is nice and well-​stocked, not too busy, and the pharmacists are helpful.
As for groceries, I always hope that whatever I need to buy isn’t on sale, because if it is then they’ll be out of stock. No bread, milk or peanut butter happens far too frequently because it’s such a busy Shoppers.
A couple of weird things: you can’t leave through the main doors without weaving around the line and passing the cashiers, even if you didn’t buy anything. Shoplifting prevention? And have you ever noticed that the people in the cosmetics department never smile and say hi unless you’ve got nice clothes on and your makeup done?

I do really like this location because it’s 24 hours, huge, and 1 ½ blocks away from where I live. For those reasons this Shoppers location is convenient, especially when I need to get something late at night. They have almost everything I need and the cosmetics department is great.
That being said, I dislike the customer service here. I can never find anybody to help me when I need it. Also note that this Shoppers is always busy and the line-​ups are insane. They sometimes only have 1 – 2 cashiers open when there is a line up getting close to the other side of the store (which is where the front entrance is). What they need here are way more employees on the floor and on cash.
None of the employees really say much unless you go to cosmetics. There I find the people there are really helpful and more friendly, but that’s because they’re always helping/​dealing with people needing cosmetics advice.

LOOOOVE! I am proud to call this Shoppers my neighbourhood drugstore. Why? Not because I love corporate giants (I really don’t) but they got errrthing! Milk, butter, eggs, deodorant, printer, passport photos (only $ 9.99, everyone!), spermicides, diapers, magazines, chocolates, blood pressure cuff, JBiebz perfume… you can have whatever you like, I said you can have whatever you like, yeah. OH AND HEY, you can have it TWENTY FOH-​SEVEN (that’s lingo for open 24 hours)!!!
I think for me, the highlight of the store is the self-​serve photocopier. There is a lot of copy stores nearby my house, but they all feel the need to charge a stupid minimum of a dollar which always gets me and I end up printing 9 more copies than the original one I needed to make the minimum charge worth it. I also enjoy the postal outlet… sure there are other locations nearby, but it’s nice to be able to mail off a letter while you pick up a new body wash, am I right?
Not sure if other people encounter this phenomenon as well, but things are always on sale when you’re just browsing through, but the moment you actually need that unscented Lubriderm moistrurizer, it costs $ 12.99 instead of the sale price of $ 4.99. The good thing about this Shoppers is that it has so much stock and something is always on sale. (It also doubles as my worst enemy when I take a leisurely stroll through the store and end up coming out with a handful of products all because they were on sale…)
Minus one star because when the cashier line is long, it is REALLY long and regular priced items can be pretty expensive.

I’m a big Shopper’s customer. I actually I am in a Shoppers on the average once a week. I go through phases where certain ones will become my regular store. But this location at Yonge and College is really an interesting store. The beauticians are actually very very helpful and advise you of the best products and promotions. The products in the store are the same as most Shoppers… great store

This is one of the bigger Shopper Drug Mart (SDM) in the downtown area. Location is accessible as it right next to a subway station and it is open 24 hours.
One walks in to the perfumes, colognes/​make up area and is nicely greeted (kudos to SDM for pushing this approach).
Lots of variety and things to check out here. This variety in addition to the location means they get a lot of traffic and they really do need more cashiers as that seems to be a bottle neck here. Other than that don’t expect any surprises here just a bigger SDM.
Whats sets this SDM apart from other SDM stores is the location, variety and being open 24 hours so a 3 star.

The strengths of this SDM are also its weaknesses. It has a great location, and it’s 24hrs. This means that it’s a hugely popular location.
Things are always out of stock, especially things on sale. I’ve definitely gone without milk because they were out of stock on milk. Talk about a first world problem: my 24hr convenience-​pharmacy doesn’t have any pasteurized milk for me to buy at 1am!
I’ve talked to the staff, and have learned that they get shipments every day except Mondays, so if you’re looking for a popular item, you know when to visit.

For a shoppers, I find this one to be pretty standard as far as Shopper’s Drug Mart’s go. They do have a good selection of products and if you live in the area, they have the best price for milk that I’ve found. That, and some of their weekly deals can’t be beat. With only a Metro in the area for grocery (at the moment — and I don’t count that crappy Sobeys up the street) they have some great flyer deals if you take the time to look.
My issue with this location is the pharmacy staff — completely incompetent and absolutely no sense of how important their presence is to the sick people that frequent this location. I was waiting for my Rx (45 minutes when I was told 20 mind you for pre-​packaged birth control) when someone barfed all over the waiting area. The pharmacist just looked up and then went back to his work and the floor stayed covered in barf for longer than I’d like to admit. They don’t know how to read Rx’s properly, my boyfriend dropped off a 3-​part Rx and they seem to have forgotten to input one of his Rx’s into the system. Which caused him to have to go back to the doctor and get another Rx simply because the staff can’t read.
Besides that, there’s always someone in this Shoppers and it’s nice and well lit. I have no qualms walking down to this location by myself in the middle of the night to get snacks or tylenol or whatever. The register lines are daunting but as previous reviewers have noted, it moves quickly for the most part and the staff is pleasant enough.

shoppers is like a CVS/​Walgreens/​Duane Reede. except in canada. or at least toronto.
i love love love that i can find all my awesome goodies i cant get in the US like ketchup chips and coffee crunchie cnady. i mgiht be spelling that wrong.
everything is organized neatly and they have plenty in stock of everything.
there are a bunch of checkstands so check out is a breeze.
i know where to go now if i ever forget to pack any toiletries or anything. :)

This locations is 24 hours and offers more items than your typical drugstore. One can buy dairy products, breads, cereal, magazines, books, cosemtics, and a limited selection of CD’s and DVD’s. There is also a photo center to devlop photos and a Canada Post.
Even though the lines to the register can be overwhelming, it is worth it to buy from the store due to the optimum points they offer. It is easy to accumulate these points and to redeem them for more product at no extra charge.
