History

Established in 2012.

Formerly operating in a beautiful restored victorian home as Rayne Spa — Aveda concept on the Riverdale area on the Danforth, our business model was very diverse. We offered hair services, nails, massages, waxing, facials as well as advanced skin care.

After several years being a «one-​stop-​shop», we decided to specialize into our area of passion — advanced medical esthetics.

In October 2014, we relocated to a cozy studio space at Avenue Road and Davenport and Skin by Design was born.

Renay sees herself as a skin «coach» applying similar concepts as a fitness coach.

As you know, when we exercise aggressively, we are actually injuring our tissues microscopically, and that leads to mild inflammatory response (post-​exercise soreness).

That inflammatory response is necessary in activating the body’s healing mechanisms leading to newer, healthier and restored muscle and connective tissue.

The exact same thing holds true for the skin, particularly facial skin. When we regularly exercise the skin using lasers and other stimulating treatments, we are actually producing low level controlled injuries to the skin structure. The skin responds with a mild, often unnoticeable, inflammatory reaction that sets the stage for a healing event. Healing is just the triggered natural repair process. With regular treatments see repair from the damage of aging.
