I change my mind. The community is great and drinks are cheap. No one cares what you order and how cool it is. Bartenders are usually nice and chatty. Thanks for soothing my broken heart Sonic

Really sweet, cute place. The downstairs has good live music sometimes, but I absolutely love the upstairs(up very, very steep stairs). It feels like climbing up to a secret little loft or treehouse to have your tea. I love recommending this place to people! Oh and also, the staff is always so nice! ^_^ (P.S. On cold days, try the ‘vanilla cozy’ — it was first described to me by the barista as ‘like a vanilla icecream, just hot’, and that’s totally what it’s like. Pretty sure it’s just steamed milk with some vanilla in it or something but its soooo lovely)

I think you have to be a certain type of person to enjoy this place. If you aren’t a cyclist, or into the whole hipster scene, I can confidently say that you won’t be spending too much time at Sonic. The café itself is pretty grungy, and surprisingly pricey. An iced Americano in the equivalent of Starbucks short cup was a little over $ 3. Taste was alright at best. I won’t be back.

I do love this place. The first time I stopped by, I ended up spending the whole day there. Good beer, excellent music, laid-back vibe, sweet outdoor area. The prices are alright, $ 6 or so for a pint of Big Wheel or Amsterdam Blonde. I’ve only actually been in 4 times(I stay far away now, meh), twice all day and twice stopping by for one drink, but I was seriously impressed by the music every time. Always reasonably busy with regulars too so there’s a bit of atmosphere. Just a generally cool, chill place and perfect for a beer in the sun in summer. Sadly haven’t met the aforementioned Kensington Market weird joke guy, but desperately wish I had!

Sonic is one of the best little hipster joints in the district, and probably more hipster than most of the coffee shops and bars in Kensington Market. Sonic is tucked on the other side of Spadina in a corner off Chinatown, in a little space that almost seems abandoned. Yup. The crowd, including the bartender, are positively hipsters. Included in the hipster package are the good music and beer selections, well-crafted coffee, and slightly awkward interactions. Overall, a very good experience relative to what you normally get in Toronto. The setting in this place is another big bonus. It’s got such a rustic and homey feel that you can’t help but be relaxed in there. There’s also a little patio area out front for you to hang out on those rare days where it’s actually sunny outside.

This is one of those places I’d been walking past thinking I should go in, and we just did. I wanted an iced Americano, my boyfriend wanted a beer, and we both got what we wanted for a good price without any fuss and with a chill patio. Very grungy but very friendly and worth checking out for a change of pace from other places around there.

Hmm, I want to like this place more, but it’s just A-OK in my books. It’s a good alternative to the coffee chains(Second Cup, Starbucks, Tim Horton’s) in the area, however I think Kensington has several far better choices, or there is a TAN Coffee on Baldwin close by as well. Sonic is cozy and laid-back. The service is good and it’s a comfy place to hang out with friends. The picnic table is a great spot in the summer. It never seems to get too busy. Since it’s on a side street just off Spadina, a lot of people probably miss it. However, I have never really been too impressed by their drinks. Both their iced lattes and hot chocolate taste watery and bland(they do have liquid sweetener though, which is good). I would stick to their hot espresso-based drinks. Prices are good, but the sizes also run small.

Very divey place with Sarah the terrific hostess/bartender. The best part was having some pretty damn good musicians drop in an play on the piano. Makes for a cozy singalong spot.
