Spadina Auto

Wayne was very friendly, and helped us out when we were in an urgent situation (it was also over the holidays to make if more difficult). My husband and I were suddenly moving to Calgary for job relocation. My car was not in starting condition and we needed this fixed asap in order to ship it to Calgary. Wayne worked hard and got the job done in time for us.

Got a quote here and everything was basically double the market price. Asked him about it and he said he had to pay his guys and his rent is high and charges 100 $ an hour. I went to another place closeby and everything was done same day and for half the cost, couldn’t believe how much money he was charging me for an oil change (100) and for a safety test (135) and running his machine to check my engine light (35). I got it all done with half the cost at another spot closeby 75+80+20. Guy was nice though, just a rip-​off.

I went there to get a oil check, they not only did a great job but also find a tire problem, staffs are really helpful, they give me other tips about my car, it’s save me from getting in trouble during road trip. Reprice, my car get never better than before, they only charge me for an hour fees for two hours jobs, I don’t even make an appointment ahead. I’ll definitely come back.

Warning. I dropped my car off on a Wednesday to say it would be ready Friday at 12 noon. Thursday evening got a call from the owner asking for it to be extended to Saturday. He wasn’t able to give me a straight answer or quote of how much it would cost. The owner talks in circles and blames «being busy». If you’re busy then let a customer go elsewhere. I asked for my car back and he said he needed to put it back together (even though I never gave the go ahead to take it apart). He then proceeded to charge me for the assesment — which he never gave me. Untrustworthy. Over priced. If you can go elsewhere, do so.

I got caught with my summer tires still on last week for Thursdays big snow storm and was frantically calling auto shops to get an appt. thankfully, these guys helped me out and got my snow tires on same day. Spoke to the owner for a bit when I picked up my car after work. seems like a nice guy. Not sure if they have new tire bags or not, if they do read this, probably best to replace the crappy ones people bring in with new ones! Still 5 starts though.

This place saved our asses! My husband and I just moved here and took our car on a 4 day drive from LA to Toronto. We went to an auto place close to the apartment we’re staying in but they were super full & sent us away but recommended us to Spadina Auto. This place was also super busy and since we didn’t have an appointment we had to leave it overnight.
It was great that we got taken in at all and the guy said it would be ready next day at noon. It did take longer than that BUT it was super busy because the lot was full. When my husband said they said the part needed to be ordered I got worried it’d take all week but it was finished that night.
Overall super nice service. We’ll be going in for an oil change soon.

I’ve been taking my car to Spadina Auto for about five years and I think what I appreciate most about the place is that Wayne doesn’t fix things just for the sake of making more money. He gives me great advice on what needs to be repaired, versus what can hold up and never disappoints with the job done. Can’t ask for more.

I came here after losing some faith in my previous mechanic. First thing that threw me off was when I called to make an appoinment for an oil change, and asking how much it costs I could not get a straight answer. But he gave me a ballpark that didn’t seem much more than what I was paying at my old spot and got me in on a Saturday morning so I just went with it.
An inspection was done during the time per expectations set, however it pretty much ended up being a recommendation of bringing the car back another day so they could spend more time with it and then talking in circles about potential issues and then putting blame on my old mechanic for things like not fixing the air filter housing before it rusted (a legitimate argument, but still no clarity or insights of potential concerns/​problems).
The owner seems like he’s trying to be a straight shooter, but seemed kind of dodgy at the same time. So with nothing concrete and nothing motivating me to be comforted in bringing it back, after my $ 55 oil change I moved on to find another mechanic that could give me some sort of confidence that he’s not trying to put me through the ringer.

Went in for a normal oil change, usually pay 30 – 45 $, they charged me 60!!! and he said he was giving me a discount… Don’t think so, I won’t be back. Big rip off, and he made it seem like he was doing me a big favour by only charging me 60 $.

Hey, It’s me. the one with the 98 Cavalier… Only now, I’ve sent good ol’ betsy out to pasture and the BF and I got ourselves a good ol’ Toyota Corolla.
That said, I guess the punks in the neighbourhood thought it looked nice enough to break into… but were respectful enough to only break the small back window of the back passenger side. Grrr… I digress.
We took it to our friend Wayne at Spadina Auto and yet again, he was amazing. He had the window replaced and again, didn’t over charge us for the whole ordeal. We really appreciate that he cares about the work he does for us and was willing to take our car immediately. (nothing like the sound of wind whistling thru duct tape as you race down the highway though).
I stand firm that if you do own a car, don’t go to the big name guys in town, go to Spadina Auto. They truly are a great small business.

My experience.
Dropped off the car on a Friday, got a call back on Monday telling me it would take 3 – 4 days, and he’d have it to me by Friday. Quoted me at less then 800.
Went in on Friday to see if I could pick it up. He said it wasn‘t ready and it was more of an inconvenience to him than me that it wasn‘t off the lot yet.
Got it back on Wednesday next week another $ 200 added to the job.
So both assurances he gave me he went back on, with no professionalism (slap my handshake like we were in high school) and no apologies.

I have been going to Wayne for a couple of years.
Today was just the Drive clean test on my car, but Wayne was his usual friendly self. I dropped the car off last night and he called me today around noon to let me know the car passed the test and could be picked up anytime. It was good to know
The prices are reasonable considering there are very few places in this part of the city, and although I am not a mechanic, find any work he does stands up.

Some of the dealings from this place are questionable.
Took our vehicle in to be repaired, first we were told it was the water pump. Couple of hundred bucks in repair later he then tried to tell us the problem was the engine or transmission. Yet why wasn’t this detected earlier!!!
Worst of all, he took our vehicle back to Scarborough for his personal use. How can i tell? Well he told me he took the vehicle out to test, please tell me you don’t need to drive all the way to Scarborough (home) and then back to test it. He used it for his personal use because there was hockey equipment left in my car.
Hint — don’t be fooled by the positive reviews this place has gotten. Now I’m not saying anything but if there are 65 filtered reviews with ALL of them praising this place by new users with one review. It makes you wonder doesn’t it… #justsayin’
**If you are a seasoned Unilocaler and look carefully, you’ll see what I mean about bogus reviews… I don’t want to give it away since someone is clearly watching this thread.
Now they have resorted to getting users with alot of reviews to post 5 star reviews. The fact that most of these reviews from «regular Unilocalers» give 5 stars (with the exception of one) makes me wonder…
Avoid this place!

Recently went over for an oil change and am pretty impressed with their friendliness and no-​bull**** service. If you have a problem, they’ll fix it for you.
Will be coming here for future problems with I will inevitably have. It’s good to be able to describe what problems you’re having though just so that you can explain to them what’s going on and they can better pinpoint it. They also take their time with jobs so that they don’t push them out (rush=doing a quick and possibly improper job as shortcuts are taken).
Saw them dismantling another car in the bay and they handle themselves very well when dealing with problems. They might not look that fancy or even inviting from the outside but their shop is well worth a visit.

I was extremely impressed with Spadina Auto. It totally has a mom and pop shop feel to it. I was given amazing prompt customer service. They went above and beyond the call of duty. I had to get my tire special ordered in and it still only took 2 days. When I showed up to get my tires switched they said it would be about an hour (just switch) to hour and half if I wanted them rotated… they had it switched, rotated and test driven within an hour. Extremely impressed definitely going to repeat and recommend

Wow, amazing attitude, OK prices, but definitely top of the line service.
I started out by having a coolant problem. I called the folks at Spadina Auto and the guy that answered suggested keeping an eye on it after I had topped it up and only to bring it in if the coolant level would keep going down, telling me how much it would cost to test the cooling system. Other places urged me to bring my vehicle in to do the test regardless.
Next, I had my car stuck in some mud and after going back and forth numerous times to get my car out of the spot it was stuck in, it was vibrating like crazy driving highway speeds. After trying to rinse my wheel wells, while it had improved quite a bit, the vibrations were still there. I called the folks at Spadina Auto and the man that answered said that I was on the right track trying to clean it and that it’d take about an hour worth of labour to repair it. It ended up taking a total of 1.35hrs worth of labour as there was a lot of mud they had to scrape off. They also checked all the components that could’ve caused the vibrating and balanced all my tires (which was what I suspected it needed, thinking I had cleaned it enough, however it turns out there was mud on the inside wells of the wheels which I would be unable to clean off of my steelies).
I was surprised that he didn’t round up the labour up to the nearest half hour. I could tell that he had done everything possible to try and take care of my issues and had billed me for as little time as he could. As the cherry on top, they even stayed there past the end of their official closing time in order for me to be able to pick up my car the same day, which of course I wouldn’t have expected and in my eyes is going well above and beyond what I would’ve expected.
I am not at all surprised that at the time that I am writing this review, this shop has nothing but 5 star reviews. They are definitely not out there to get your money for work you don’t need unlike most other shops I’ve been to, and I definitely trust them with my car which I always do my best to take care of as best I can :-) With that in mind, I’d definitely return to Spadina Auto Repair the next time I need work done on my car.

The staffs of SAP are friendly, fast, honest and reliable. I have had very good experience with them. They share comprehensive information with customer and give me honest advice without pressuring. They did a good job keeping me posted as well as including me in the decision making process with honest options during the repairing process.
They do get busy all the time so best call to check their schedule before you go.

I recently moved downtown and needed a mechanic nearby and I came across Spadina Auto decided to go in to bring my Yaris for a safety check.
Wayne the owner and everyone I spoke to in there are very friendly. Wayne spent the time to explain to me that my car needed new brakes and he could do a so so job or a good job that’ll last me a couple years. I decided to go ahead with the latter and I’m glad I did, the difference was night and day.
Higly recommend these guys and make sure you park in the enterprise lot!

Disclaimer: I’m not a car expert and all I got was an oil change, but I’ll definitely be coming back and will update my review accordingly.
I was helped by Wayne, the owner, and he was extremely friendly. I find other mechanics can have a tendency to talk to you like you’re a moron (in fact, the mechanic next door did just this when I spoke to him about an oil change first) but Wayne was friendly through and through.
Wayne made it clear to me that they would do the oil change, and IF I WANTED, they would check for any other problems. I said I only wanted the oil change today as I had to leave for Oshawa soon, and that was that.
My car was done in a timely fashion and as the previous reviewer said, I did not feel ripped off or have any issues with the work.
Again, do keep in mind I just got an oil change, but for the price I paid and the vibe I got at the place, I’ll certainly be coming back here.

Don’t have a car anymore (bike everywhere now), but when I had vehicles I took them to Spadina Auto. Always got great service, at a good price. Never felt ripped off, or had *any* issues with their work.
Wayne, the owner, is a trip. Worth it just for entertainment value ;)
