Studio Brillantine

I was shopping here again recently and also inquiring about watch servicing which they are authorized dealers in Braun and Mondaine which I needed to have some work done. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable and guided me in the right direction.
Many people may think their products are expensive, but they carry some excellent high-​end products from Iitalla, Alessi, Georg Jenson, Jacobson among others so they are not inexpensive to begin with and the pricing is inline where it should be and you will definitely appreciate the quality and design of these products — you will not find any cheap knockoffs or knick-​knacks here, however they have products from all price ranges, from funny designer birthday cards to some cool kids toys to vintage and new jewelry to out of production limited edition pieces which you can’t buy anywhere else.

This is one of those quirky places that are really fun to pop into and look around in. I’m not sure that it’s the type of place you’d ever actually spend money in though. It’s expensive, and a number of things can be found elsewhere.
That being said, I really enjoy popping into it.

Sorte de boutique concept perdue dans un quartier populaire, le design très fashion contraste avec les batiments alentours. Ici on trouve des cadeaux en tout genre certains de meilleur goût que d’autres. Pour faire simple on dans une sorte de Soho français «haut de gamme».
Les articles sont présentés comme dans une collection de prêt à porter disposés sur des étagères avec étiquettes transparentes un peu partout.
Les prix sont relativement assez élevés, j’ai pu noter un décapsuleur pac man à 20 $ qu’on peut trouver ailleurs pour moitié prix. Encore une fois on paie ici le cadre.
Le gérant est cependant très poli et accueillant.
Une curiosité à voir si vous êtes dans le quartier.

Studio Brillantine is a great store if you looking for some unique gifts for that special friends for wedding, housewarming or birthday.
There are so many interesting merchandise for you to browse around and you actually have fun shopping for someone else!
Price point wise, it is on the pricey side but at least your gifts will be appreciated and are good quality.

If you need to buy a housewarming gift, come here. They have all manner of teapot, coasters, silverware, clocks and the like, and they’re all beautiful.
The store is oddly organized. The content is gallery-​like, but knowing what’s in stock overall is is difficult… it’s not sorted by type, function or brand, it’s just sort of laid out haphazardly (but still in an orderly fashion, if that makes sense). The only solution is to comb over the entire store in intimate detail. You’re sure to find something you love, like, you know, wrapping paper that says «Happy Fucking Birthday» or a giant Barbapapa piggy bank. It’s all here.

Whenever I’m lost for gift ideas SB is where I end up. I can spend an hour looking at every piece in the store — Stelton’s stainless steel coffee set by Arne Jacobsen, Shiseido candies from Ginza, Toyko and minimal digital watches by Philippe Stark. It’s the kind of stuff that wins design awards and gets noticed — conversation pieces — the kind of pieces people usually don’t buy for themselves but would love to own and probably don’t already have. I always leave with a great bag of goodies, easily finding something for the home-​office guy, the entertainer and the traveler too, all in one simple spot.

i live in leslieville; this is weird that no one has reviewed this place yet.
so here goes nothing: upon entering the store the sales guy greeted me before i even got a chance to look at him. after acknowledging him in turn, i began to tackle this mountain of a store.
perhaps funpark is a better moniker than mountain. perhaps clockwork orange funpark is best suited: all the walls are white here and there are lots of things that are glowing, like non-​stuffed animal teddy bears. whats cool and what perhaps gives me this feeling is the fact that most if not all of the platforms/​tables on which these high style objects of desire are put are lit from underneath or behind. it gives everything a cold futuristic feeling.
i mean, there is warmth in terms of colour, but the designs for things are very slick and cheeky. there are cutlery sets that youd have to think about how to use before you picked them up. a lot of the objects seem to be straight out of hello kitty or manga comics. or theres a bright blue fly swatter called Dr. Skudd with the image of a man or womans face printed on it (cant tell). or there is stuff that is on the extreme end of being an art piece, for example there is a plate, silver in colour, with a blue metallic representation of a balloon dog on it or attached to it (you know, one that a childrens party clown would make). thats one of 2300 pieces made by jeff koons, the original of which resides in the museum of contemporary art in los angeles. (if you dont know, jeff koons is one of todays preeminent contemporary artists, at the very least in terms of recognizability and commercial success.).
i wasnt so strict in my observation to be able to verify this, but it seems that they use one representative of each piece and each is accompanied by a clear card that has in black type the artist’s name, a description of each item, the year it was made and if its won any awards. so its very museum-​like in its setup.
the prices in general are high, and in some cases (i cannot say a majority or not) are reflective of the fact that probably a fair number of these pieces represent one or a couple of a limited number of reproductions made.
i think its exciting to see a store like this that introduces us to designers innovative and often humorous ideas on everyday items.
it allows us to see these objects that we take for granted anew.
