Toronto District School Board Continuing Education

My teacher, Paula Elias for the «The Art of Speech and Argument» class has been great so far. She is very patient and kind with her pupils. I would classify it more as a beginner class before moving on to harder courses or programs to improve your communication skills. I think it is a highly informative class however, helping you to understand your personal communication issues. The Danforth Tech is easily accessible. Just about 5 minutes from the Greenwood subway station but I had a little difficulty finding the entrance on the first day and the classroom.
In the class there are a mix of young and old. Mostly older folk. I think Ive got a good group so far and I guess it all depends on the class you take.
I am excited to take some of the other computer classes but I wish I could see some ratings for professors and quality before I shell out money for these courses. I don’t want to waste my time or money with a bad teacher with a poorly constructed curriculum. Anyways I am a fan so far and it is my first Learn for Life TDSB course so I will keep posting reviews and I hope others will too. Thx.

I am taking a pottery «Beginners» course at Central Tech. This is the worst course I have ever taken as well as being expensive. The «teacher» and I say that lightly, has been late for every class. When she does arrive she is clearly intoxicated and reeks of alcohol. She has no planned class, one week she showed pinch pots, then how to use the wheel — that was it no more instruction we were all left to our own devices. She talks to us in a rude and condescending way. There is also a technician who is supposed to assist us with questions and general help — since the first class he has devoted all his attention to one student and spends the entire time flirting and chatting and helping her. If you ask him a question he brushes you off and carries on with his one on one interaction with the one student.
I found this course expensive as well for something with limited to no instruction to novice potters. The classroom is disorganized, the kiln room is a mess and most of your work gets damaged or lost.
Waste of time, money and effort

I’ve used the TDSB’s continuing education programs for many years now. The classes are relaxed and offer a mix of subject matters and teaching approaches: some good, some not so good. I recommend the Learning4Life programs as a great way to learn slowly, to meet new people and just have fun.

Toronto District School Board Continuing Education is a great resource if you feel like learning more about something, and can’t seem to find it at the Universities, or you’re looking for a more specialized course.
They have everything from dance, to arts, to professional development, sewing, games, real estate — browse through the categories.
They are held in various classrooms in public stores in the GTA area. Courses range from $ 50 – 100 depending on what you’re looking for, and could be a cheaper alternative to a specialty school or university, depending on what you’re looking for.
We went to take Swing Dancing lessons from here. It was in a big gym, and there was a mix of older people and young people. It was very beginner, but it was fun at the same time.
It’s worth taking a look at!
