History

Established in 1973.

Toronto Guitar Institute is owned and operated by Richard Summers. An honors graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music, Mr. Summers has performed extensively as a duo and ensemble guitarist, and can be heard in recording with the award-​winning Victoria Scholars on their «Christmas with Victoria Scholars» CD. He was a finalist in the Guitar Player Magazine «Ultimate Guitar Competition», classical category, and has been featured in Guitar Player’s Spotlight section.

Mr. Summers has adjudicated at numerous music festivals and competitions in Ontario and Quebec, has taught guitar for the University of Toronto, Music Education department, and is a guitar examiner for U. of T. As a member of The College of Examiners for RCM Examinations, he regularly travels across Canada conducting Royal Conservatory guitar examinations. A Past President of the Guitar Society of Toronto, he is currently President of Peel Music Festival, for which he is also Guitar Section Head.
