TTC – Toronto Transit Commision

I can’t count how many times the streetcar driver has driven away from me while I’m running and I swear they are smirking while doing so. They will slam on breaks or pump the breaks so all of us standing are humping eachother like dogs in heat. An old lady has fallen off the bus into the curb because they didn’t lower the ramp. I have seen someone get nailed by the bus mirror. It’s ridiculous. Today I was smashed by the door getting on at keele and st Clair. I was the only one on the streetcar ! Like are we in a race to get somewhere? Wait for me to get up in the streetcar it’s not like I’m slow. I fave two stars because he offered a sorry. On streetcar number 4028. But regardless this isn’t a review for the TTC in general because normally I have some pretty good drivers and they’re courteous and some are just super grumpy and don’t say anything when I say thank you. Mind you you can’t go through life expecting kindness from everyone.

OK where do I start? Street cars! They are the worst! Outdated, slow, and never on time. Those streetcar cables and tracks have ruined the streets of Toronto.
The subway is literally a joke. The world is laughing at us! Seriously show the TTC subway map to a New Yorker. On the bright side our subway system has made it to the front page of r/​funny.
And why TTC so overpriced? TTC is supposed to be public. Sure, YRT and GO are expensive too, but unlike TTC, at least they have decent buses and decent bus stops. Plus they are always on time.
The only good thing about TTC is their free parking on weekends and holidays

Meh. I’ve experienced better compares to other transit systems in other big cities around the World. But TTC is not too bad. I had some of my friends from NYC area commenting how clean the train itself and stations were. I guess as long as you are near the major subway lines without using the buses and streetcars that often, your experience might be different?
I do like what TTC had been doing recently. New trains for the Yonge Subway lines, the new smartphone apps that allow you to purchase Day pass using credit card payment (I really hate lining up at the booth especially at Finch Station trying to get a day pass on weekends!), Free wifi at various Stations, the ability to use Presto card as form of payment…
Unplanned Service interruption definitely not fun: either due to emergency or mechanical malfunction. TTC does not really have a really efficient plan to due with emergency and as the major mode of transportation, when the main Subway is down, you are not going to get to anywhere but to wait or trying to squeeze yourself on one of those shuttle buses.
Everything seems to take forever to build. I hope I will still be around when all levels of government decide what to do and how to implement the future transportation plan and if they ever agreed on one?!
Fee increasing every year without improvement in service…
Streetcars and Bus just so unreliable. A few times I was waiting for Queen Street Car which according to schedule text message stating there would be 3 of those arriving in 10 minute apart. I waited for 20 minute… not even 1 shown up!!! I ended up walking to Osgoode Hall Station and by the time arrived, still no sight of any…

I am from little Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. It is essential to have a car because the bus comes by every hour or hour and a half.
Living in Toronto is great. Very easy to get around on ttc. Most busses run all hours of the night and subway goes until 130am.
My only real pet peeve are inconsiderate bus drivers who take turn too sharply and brake too hard when there are standees.

Ive used subway systems all around the world and TTC is lacking.
TTC has little good. Stations/​Trains/​Busses/​Streetcars are all usually pretty clean.
Subway stations aren’t usually too hot (in the summer) and we do have wifi from Bloor to St Andrew?
The bad. The amount of delays that occur DAILY is beyond me. The amount of times I hear «We’re sorry for any inconvenience» is so irritating. I don’t know how TTC can screw up such a simple subway system. Maybe thats the problem, its too linear that if something goes wrong the whole system is messed up.
I honestly wished we just kept the old subway trains on the Yonge line. Every day at least twice I hear an announcement blaming the new cars for a mechanical difficulty.
THE LEAST TTC can do is give us wifi all the way up to Finch station. So when the PEOPLE of TORONTO are stranded underground in a subway car they can atleast pass the time by being connected to the internet.
It’s funny that during the PAN AM games, TTC was on the ball. Once the event ended, everything went back to poop.
Useless.

TTC is a horrible transportation system. Street cars, buses, and subways with no air-​conditions in middle of summer and during heatwaves. I take the subway every day, morning and night, and almost on daily bases the subway between Bloor and Runnymede station has no air-​condition. You walk in a subway-​car and you can feel a wall of heat inside the car and everyone looks like they are dying.
TTC CEO, You should be ashamed of yourself, charging people almost $ 143 a month and you can’t even provide basic necessitates in middle of damn summer, underground, with temp reaching 40 +, and you run subways with no air condition? You fool.
3^rd world transportation systems run better than TTC.
What an embarrassing state of affair.

Toronto is the 4^th largest city in North America but this system lacks girth, breadth, robustness and legs. I’ll add intellect, reasoning, common sense and practicality to that list too while I’m at it.
The TTC is the most expensive transit system to use in NA.
Berlin vs TO
Chicago’s CTA has more than double the track of the TTC will have once the expansions are complete while they have less ridership but they also charge less.
The CTA services 2 airports with rail — the TTC doesn’t even service one. The current «subway» map shows the 192 Rocket from Kipling to Pearson as if it’s some sort of rapid transit. This is a BUS route on a subway map.
So all the visitors from all over can marvel at the 192 Rocket to get them to Kipling OR pay 27 dollars by taking the UP OR just take a limo or cab from Pearson for a flat rate.
The east end is getting all sorts of goodies. Extensions of the Eglinton LRT, possibly an extension of the Sheppard line. What is the west side getting? A dead end line in the Finch LRT that ends at Humber and not to Pearson? No extension of the Eglinton LRT west to Renforth or Pearson (AKA phase 3).
How many lines does TTC actually have? 1 = Yonge/​Spadina, 2 = Bloor/​Danforth, 3 = Scarb RT (really inline with 2) 4 = shouldn’t even exist. No need to give them numbers, we don’t have enough to lose track of them all do we?
Spadina line expansion to Vaughan… this was started in 2008 and it was supposed to be done this year. This won’t be complete for MAYBE another 2 or 3 years AND there are cost overruns in the 400M range. A couple incompetents were fired over this — boo-​hoo. The TTC hired a management company for 150M to complete it.
Why does the TTC take about 20% of my property tax to fund this inefficient money pit that doesn’t even have the technology to even collect full fares (yet)? Oh speaking of there is no enforcement to pay fares.
Automated fare systems like what they had in Washington DC over 30 years ago would mitigate that. In DC you can go to different cities, different states on multiple lines and this is the center of the US federal government. Homogeneous transit system… that must be nice.
For the amount of money sifting through this organization (oxymoron there) we as tax paying citizens are NOT receiving what we should. If other cities can operate more robust systems for less, why are we operating a lesser system for more?
Does Toronto deserve a better transit system? We pay the most to use it, we need more service, less delays, less closures, more efficiency, less politics, less waste, more stops in places that matter, more lines that go outside the city and a system that can handle more because guess what? The amount of people making up the population is NOT going down in fact it’s going up.
The area of Liberty Village started a crowdfunded shuttle for residents to pay for shuttles into the core because the 504 street car was always overcrowded. Can you believe this? A group of people creating a vigilante shuttle because the already inundated street car the TTC has just can’t keep up with servicing the public?
I’ve not heard of it where a city transit system was so inefficient at meeting the needs of the public that they decided to take matters into their own hands. It sounds like a Charles Bronson movie except we can call it Ride Wish instead of Death Wish.
There’s a thing called the Sunshine list. This is an old metric that measures how much public employees get paid and if you’re on the list you make more than 100k/​yr.

Operators are bus drivers, subway operators etc. Collectors are supposed to make sure you are paying fares but they can’t confront you if you don’t pay — so their jobs are what exactly?
PRESTO is an automatic fare collection system which is used in some regional transit systems and is now available for the TTC. How fast do you think the TTC would want to integrate this automated fare system when they have 400 fare collectors and about 10 percent of those that make over 100k a year? How fast would the TTC want to catch up to 21^st century technology vs keeping jobs that are essentially obsolete?
The TTC has failed this city. This is your tax dollars, this is your tax dollars sort of at work. Any questions?

My schedule at work changed and I have to start at 5 30am. I had to start taking the Blue night line to work and I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL SHOW UP! one day it was 10 mins early and today it was 15 mins late !!
I was at broadview and danforth and saw what I thought was my scheduled 5 14am bus coming, then i see it says OUT OF SERVICE. I start getting a bit nervous, so I wait until the next one scheduled for 5 16am. That one was OUT OF SERVICE too! I ended up getting on the 5 24am bus which was PACKED full of everyone who wasnt able to get the 2 scheduled buses that were OUT OF SERVICE.
Honestly I am just going to spend the extra money and use UBER to get to work now. TTC is the worst, most unreliable form of transportation. You may as well WALK at least youd have a clue of when you will get to the destination. They should be embarrassed having issues when theres ZERO traffic

I’ve been taking the TTC for about 2 years now. I moved from Mississauga and I didn’t think a transit system could get any worse than Mississauga transit. I have numerous experiences where subways have stopped running for more than 20 minutes and NO shuttle buses come… Even when they do, there aren’t enough of them to accommodate the mass flood of people that use this system every day. Because of the TTC I have almost lost my job due to horrible upkeep and service. 10 minutes late for work is acceptable maybe 3 times… But being stuck on the yonge line for an hour is complete trash and not an excuse to my boss. People might think «leave yourself extra time…» I cannot plan for an hour break down people.
The most horrible experience I ever had was a bus driver from the 88 line to st.clair. Around 6 pm buses come very far and few between (20 minutes for a bus into st. clair station: I can walk there in less time than this but ttc promised a bus every 10 minutes on this line so I wait) I saw from my ttc app that if needed to catch a bus that was 2 minutes away or I would miss my GO train and have to wait another half hour… Who wants this?
My day was already a terrible one: I was very sick. So I waved down the bus to see if they would let me on… The bus driver stops, let’s me on… And proceeds to ask me if I was aware that it wasn’t a bus stop… I said «I am more than aware sir. The next bus comes in 20 minutes and I would like to make my train and go home. I’m not feeling well». He then states «you are lucky I even let you on, most bus drivers would drive right past you, you need to go to the stop next time. This is unacceptable». At this point I couldn’t understand why I was being spoken to like this, I asked him «if this situation bothered you that much, why did you let me on? I’d rather not speak about this anymore sir». After this he BLOWS up on me… Effectively kicking me off the bus and saying I was harassing him… Excuse me? I asked you why you would do something you have a problem with, I didn’t use one piece If foul language or attitude. I understand bus drivers can have horrible days but don’t take your bad day out on a customer that hasn’t done anything to you. I missed my train that day and didn’t get home until 8:45. I had a severe lung infection. Thank you ttc bus driver for this experience. I don’t expect anything from you people anymore: even though I pay a stupid amount of money for transit. It’s really sad.

City has outgrown the subway.
The fact there is nothing on Queen, King or Lake Shore sucks.
Monthly passes are way over priced as are day passes.
Recently been to smaller cities; Boston and Washington and they have far more extensive systems in place.
Toronto will and won’t ever be in any running for ‘world class’ with this subway.
Shepard line a massive waste of money.
Relief lines should be digging today, ttc blows!

Your system sucks. You make millions and millions but yet have the worst communication system. Make people wait, over crowd your streetcars, and subways. Horrible and most of your workers are rude and unhelpful.

I Travel a lot from North York area to downtown by ttc’s subway, and there WAS no services at ALL!
today at St. George station, the person leaves the position early which I can’t use my day pass, and I asked him is there any other entrance, he replied to me «read the sign»… ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
Anyway :) TTC is absolutely garbage on service!

For the whole system itself, it’s pretty good considering how much area TTC covers, and the ability for the lines to transfer so easily, much better than Vancouver’s.
At the same time, and understandably with the Olympics, that one of our lines is quite new and more spacious. Toronto, a bit rickety here in fact. And being a much bigger city, the transit commuters were surprisingly not as pushy or rude as one would expect.
While it’s nice to see a transit concession stand to ask for help or pay in person, the guy at Dundas/​Yonge sure wasn’t helpful to a tourist — forgot to grab our transfer tickets.
And the few stops, have to say that the stairwells, etc. could be kept more cleaner. But hey, that’s why we’re Beautiful Vancouver ;)

Always a delay and slow during rush hours. Costs so much too. Awful compared to other similarly sized cities.

Back on Thursday, January 8, 2015, I came through the Yonge And Sheppard Subway Station and while going through there, I needed to buy some subway/​bus tokens since I was running out.
At one of the inside booths where you are paying and/​or showing your transfer to get through to the actual subway, I was Poorly Greeted By Their Male Representative Named Terry!
He was so damn Rude when I told him that I was having trouble in using my American Express Credit Card to pay for the tokens.
He Purposely And Deliberately Refused to Help and/​or Assist ME and was Constantly Angry During the Whole Time and Duration that I was there for No Good and/​or Invalid Reasons!
Since he Refused to assist ME as his Paying Customer, I had to ask his female coworker who was working outside of his booth to assist me.
Through her, I learned that I needed to just Slide My Card a Certain Way since my American Express Credit Card does NOT come with a Chip.
After she had showed ME on how to use my American Express Credit Card, then It Finally Worked, however, Terry could have walked ME through it, but because he was having a Manic Depressive and/​or Bi-​Polar Attack, it was therefore Not Possible!
I Honestly Do Not Know How He Got Hired!
I personally have traveled around the world and have used various transportation systems, however, I have yet to be Mistreated As Poorly as I was by Terry!
Other than that Horrible Experience, the TTC known as the Toronto Transit Commission does Offer A Decent, Working, Functional Transportation System, however, it does come with some Bad Apples such as Terry whom I have Described in my Negative Review against him who is Horribly Representing the TTC Toronto Transportation Commission.

It Will Be Greatly Remembered And Cherished!

TTC aka «Take The Car». The only subway system in North America or possible the world that goes no where. They added a new Shepard line a few years back and it goes no where. They city and TTC plan very carefully to make sure it remains this way. New venues are built with no consideration to transit. They put attractions in one area and Transit in another area. Never shall the two meet. They just built a new airport express I like to call the «Vintage Express», multiple stops, runs on diesel, and wont be affordable to most. I believe it will run every 30 minutes not every 2 – 3 minutes like most international cites. The best part is, it goes to union station, one of the lowest densely populated areas around. And an area that already has a first class business class airport on its door, so why fly to Pearson International and take the «vintage express» downtown when you clan fly to the downtown airport and avoid the time and expense.
We have the most expensive transit and the most expensive taxis. Add these two together and it spells «Take The Car».
I know this sounds very negative. I am just so fed up with city counsel and how they throw these things up ad-​hock. Why do the same idiots keep getting re-​elected… Look at Kristyn Wong-​Tam Ward 27, voted against the bike lanes on Sherbourne. Those bike lanes are beautiful and functioning very well. What the heck was her problem?.

A group of us took the subway down from Downsview Station to Union Station. There were 5 of us.
Tokens were 7 for $ 18.95…so we required 10 tokens. Add parking (at Downsview) and it would have been cheaper and more convenient for us to drive downtown, pay for parking, and come home after spending time downtown.
I thought the purpose of mass transit was to make it a viable option, both in cost and convenience, than driving. The TTC must have missed that memo.
I will say that the guy at the booth was very pleasant.

I have been taking the TTC ever since I could remember. I remember the days when bus fare used to be 50 cents. Oh my has the time flown by. Cash fare is now currently $ 3.00 per adult. Taking the TTC is not bad compared to a couple of years ago. TTC used to have way too many subway delays but has improved with the new subway trains which has inner linked trains to get to the area of the stop you need to get off, so you don’t have to hop trains by exiting and re entering.
I find that the subway trains appear pretty often and have an average wait time of 4 – 5 minutes and generally get you to your destination rather quickly. The buses are not bad based on the bus that you are taking. Main intersections/​routes tend to have a better turn up for buses. You have your occasional bus driver that is a dick, but then you have some that are pretty awesome. Then the rest are just there to get the job done.
Also there are times of the day where there can be some pretty messed up people on the TTC. These individuals are either drunk or crazy. Sometimes it can be really entertaining, other times you will be annoyed beyond belief, and sometimes you’ll just be a little freaked out. Either way this is the only public transit in Toronto, so you may not have a choice but to take it. Welcome to the TTC!

I’m torn on how to write this review — TTC has impressed me for its service, cleanliness (in most stations), and schedule. I never waited more than a few minutes in a station — we might wait 20 – 25 minutes for a train in Washington, DC.
Now, some stations look like hell. Some trains are old and should be retired. But for every blight, there is construction. For every old train there is a new one. Much better than WMATA.
I like it — it’s one of the only public transit systems in the world that I don’t mind taking to get where I need to go.
