Urban Capers

We had a great time at the ROM doing the Murder Mystery scavenger hunt. It was so cool to get to know the museum in a new way, and everyone on the team had a chance to find the clues (6 of us). Love how we could keep our phones — taking photos along the way was nice! The price was a bit steep ($ 40 each) so a student price would be nice for future events. The organizers were also totally awesome and we would consider going to another one of their Toronto hunts.

My friends and I did the Murder Mystery at the ROM and we LOVED it! It was our first time trying this company and we are glad that we did. For this particular hunt (they do several kinds at different locations — check their site) we were at the ROM and it cost aprox $ 40 incl tax. That’s a pretty good price considering you get admission into the ROM so you can continue to look around after the hunt.
This is a well organized group with great and lively staff (I really wish I remembered the main guy’s name — he was fantastic).
You are given a «journal» that has clues to discover the murderer and the motive. The hunt takes you all over the museum and is well laid out so you learn interesting facts. It takes about 2hrs for the hunt and then about 30min to wrap up — get the answers, declare the winner.etc.
I highly recommend that everyone try this out — great way to spend an afternoon!
Will definitely do another hunt with them in the near future.

My boyfriend and I decided to try out the Urban Capers «Kensington Culinary Adventure» a few months ago. It is a food-​focused scavenger hunt and the price was $ 25/​pp. They state online that participants should expect to spend another $ 10−15/pp on food purchases along the route. They get two stars as we did learn a few interesting things about the history and culture of the neighbourhood.
Part of the scavenger hunt was that we needed to visit at least 6 – 8 of their suggested restaurants and try menu items (at our cost, with no participant discount). Even if we had only tried one item between us for these places, it still would have cost well over $ 30 on top of our ticket price. Some of the suggested places were no longer operating so we had to run around trying to find other open places just to stay in the competition.
At the end of the event we were required to return our clues and materials and not given any take aways (more Kensington history or pamphlets on the area) or incentives to try another one of their many «tours».
I know $ 25/​pp isn’t insanely expensive but the value for your dollar is certainly not there, especially when the actual cost is closer to $ 50−60/pp once you factor in food. For the same price I would suggest choosing a escape room adventure, neighbourhood concert or theatre performance.
