I like the décor ! Awesome wall art and chandlers. The sound was awesome in the room . Only one bar. People stand in front of it during shows so it can be hard to get to. Merch is also set up in front of part of the bar, blocking more access to it as well . The upstairs balcony was closed during the concert I was at . Hands down the worst bathroom I have ever been in or had to get to. It’s the the basement down stairs down a couple hallways. The hallways to get to it smell like a rotting port o potty. My suggestion is to hold it in unless you really have to go, and even then still don’t go . They do have a coat check !

Drink prices are crazy. Bathrooms stink of urine and are filthy. No thanks. Will not be back.

Was there for the Riverside concert a few days ago. Decent sound and not too loud as others have mentioned, decent sight lines to the stage, and was not too crowded. However — the washrooms. Stunk. Bad. And that was BEFORE the concert started. Soap dispensers were coming off the wall, and one of two sinks didn’t work. Perhaps something happened the night before and repairs were on the list. But the stench before the event starts is just unacceptable.

Heard the staff and crew cut the cable of a band who played there. Not a good look Mod Club, not a good look.

Came on a night when there was a show and it was a lot of fun! A great venue for a show, intmAte, and good sound in a beautiful building. There is a cover and drinks on show nights are relatively pricey but that’s to be expected. GreAt spot for a night out, best when there are shows, but there’s always a fun crowd!

Mod Club doesn’t book the greatest talent but if you’re lucky you might find a band you enjoy. They mostly showcase local Toronto bands and the occasional touring band I came here to see Tennis an indie pop band from Denver who made a stop in Toronto on their tour. I’v been into Tennis for a while and it was nice to see them at a relatively intimate venue(capacity is about 600). The sight lines to the stage were good, and I was right up front. The sound was pretty good, nice and clean with no technical issues Washrooms are beside the stage and downstairs, a bit of a maze to find them, but when I got there, they were clean and well maintained. Bar staff and security were efficient and friendly, at actually getting people inside. Mod Club is a decent venue and I’d definitely see another band here.

Went here for the second time last night to a GBC student-run event, Musicology. The drinks aren’t a deal, and there’s a $ 25 minimum for using your credit card at the bar(Which is crazy… who spends that much at once?) Getting to the bathroom is a bit of a hassle as you cross paths with the performers, and the stairway always seemed full. Besides the above, it was a great venue. Really nice atmosphere and definitely somewhere I’d return to.

I had heard about this place but had not ventured here since I moved from Mississauga to Toronto because it is far from my new hood at Spadina and Front(its funny when I lived in Sauga, we would drive to Markham for an evening out lol) The venue itself is a great place to a see a band(we saw the Spoons last night) The bouncers were courteous and respectful, and drink prices were on par with other clubs) The acoustics in this club are very good and the bar staff works fast, so even with long line-ups you get served pretty quick. The bathrooms were not the cleanest though(Mod Club hope you are reading this!) But overall, for me its a well deserved 4 Star rating. I am curious, what is this place like when bands are not playing? If your favourite band is playing here, check it out, overall we had a very good experience.

Small venue, really close feeling. Always attentive service at the bar. And I got in with no fuss about having forgot my ID(I’m 32… not 20, so I appreciate not being hassled).

On behalf of Toronto’s tech community, I’d like to thank the Virgin Mobile Mod Club for donating space and staff for the HoHoTO party held each mid-December. HoHoTO, called«the party that twitter built», is one of the largest third-party community events in support of Daily Bread Food Bank. One-third of people who rely on food banks are children.

Came here on Monday Night for the Royal concept concert, with the opening bands Misterwives and American authors. The concert itself was great. Since the Venue is small it was more of a intimate vibe going on, which is awesome because you can really connect with the band and music. This was my first time to the Mod club so I don’t really know what changed as to when before Virgin Mobile bought the venue. However when I walked in, i noticed it was modern and sort of cool. It has 2 bars open. On the side of the room they have White couches you can lounge on. About 4 tables in the middle of room, the washrooms located beside the stage. If you’re slick you can catch the band coming in the hallway on your way to the washroom because its right beside the stage entrance. When i went to the washroom you kind of have go down the stairs and go through a hallway filled with virgin mobile ads. the washrooms were not so clean, it seemed as though it hasn’t been looked after a couple of days. The drinks were averagely priced, No surprise there. I think that Virgin mobile needs to make some improvements as to the ATM machines also, they had 2ATM machines but neither of them worked. Really? My bro had to go outside to the plaza in front to find one. The workers here were nice, except for the bouncers they were somewhat rude and sarcastic, but whatever seemed to be stuck up their ass seemed to be really umm… stuck up there. The venue itself i have no problem with and if those little improvements were made by Virgin mobile. Then all for the better. That wont stop me from coming back, because The mod club is in fact a one of the stamps of Toronto. More Improvements, less Virgin mobile ads.

Came to Toronto from Pittsburgh to see Amaranthe and Kobra & the Lotus. I thought it was a good venue for a rock show, great sound and we loved standing right against the stage. However, the lack of security was a concern when crowd surfers were ending up on stage and one girl had her friends«boost her onto the stage so they could take a picture of her»(her actual quote). The band went with it at first but were seeming a little annoyed after awhile. We didn’t buy alcohol but bottled water was $ 3 each… which seems to be pretty standard for clubs like that. If another band who I really wanted to see was not coming anywhere close to me, I would come back to the Mod Club again.

Dear Mod Club, what happened? Did Virgin’s buy-out put you in an identity crisis, or are you totally sold-out now? I’ve been coccooned by you plenty of times in the past — ukulele fem pop like Ingrid Michaelson, beatboxing competitions and intense acts like Yann Tiersen and RJD2 — but never have I felt so disappointed at the way you managed the floor thumping basement house music from the basement. In a city full of people that love their live music, you have always been a head above the competition, but the Matt Costa show was a true disappointment. Per Dana C.‘s review below, Matt Costa was a gracious and wonderful arist for having to put up with the poor acoustics and interruptions to his otherwise beautiful performance. I think you need to evaluate what you want to be, and then show the rest of Toronto that you are that. Yours, Stubbornly hopeful Fan

I hard heard alot about the Mod Club but no clue as to where and how it was. Went for a David Usher concert last month. Traveled by TTC… got off at Ossington station. The walk is kinda sketchy to get there. Once I got there It didnt seem like anything special. The washroom is in a corner and REALLY confusing. multiple doors and winding paths and stairs. One of the taps didnt even work unless«you speak Chinese to it» according to the attendant. Beer there was nothing special but I like how you can keep a tab there. I guess I had high expectations.

I love this concert venue — one of the best in Toronto. Since it’s on College street, there are many pre-concert dinner choices and after concert snacks. If your taking the TTC, you will need to catch the College west street car from the subway. The venue has great sound and you can see the stage from all areas in the club. Large bar down the one side of the club with slightly above average prices. My only experience is with concerts, not sure what it’s like when the place operates as a club. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended for a concert…

Saw Fitz and the Tantrums here last week and this was my first time at The Mod Club. I was expecting it to be a little bit grungy inside(like most small venues) but to my surprise it was quite clean and pretty modern. Seating with a few tables along one wall and a long bar on the other wall. The ceilings are quite high making this place feel very spacious for a smaller venue and there is a nice balcony, which I assume is for VIP’s. The site lines are pretty good and with a venue like this you are usually able to get pretty close to the stage. The sound quality was OK but not spectacular. The crowd was mostly young people and was quite energetic(this can be credited to Fitz and the Tantrums as they did a good job of getting the crowd into it). This place gets bonus marks for having a few local beers and being within walking distance from Ossington subway station, making it very easy to get to. I would be happy to return to this venue for another show. *Pro-tip: Take a walk down Ossington towards Dundas and have a few pre-concert beers at Bellwoods Brewery those guys make amazing beers! Cheers!

Incredible music venue. The sound quality is awesome. I’m rather sensitive to loud bass. This is one of the very few venues where I can see a hip hop or electronic concert and I don’t need earplugs. Also, the stage is raised to just the right level. It’s easy to see whoever is on stage. –one of the stars is to balance the inexplicable negative reviews on here. some of which admit that the sound is incredible. Isn’t this the most important aspect of a music venue?

Trashy, Grungy dance floor in the middle with odd wet marks on the ceilings and a small stage. My kind of place. Came here Thursday 28th evening for Glitch Mob… BOY was it epic. The bathroom is a cest pool of disgusting BUT when everyone is on something doubt it’s noticeable. The crowd here is interesting. You have the skaters, the odd old Asian guy looking to re-live his Saturday night at Guv, the 37yr old girls with bad dye jobs aching to be noticed, the occasional goths with cool contact lenses, The abercrombie and Fitch daddy’s car –kid that knows nothing about the band, The random cool peeps, the phenom dance moves kinda folk and last but not least the beloved drifters coming to check whats up. The bouncer is a Pakistani guy who speaks broken English and looks like a tank. It gets packed quite quickly and they DO check ID. smoking section is just outside. Which is fantastic — you can walk out. take a left keep walking and there’s a tiny fountain with some seats around it. If you choose to, you can smoke a J, do some planking, do some double planking, do some triple planking, do some cartwheels, what eves. Get chilled and go back in. It’s pretty sweet. There is a bar to the right side of the door that serves beer and standard alcoholic drinks. Don’t bother ordering any mixes, it’s so noticeably diluted with water. Shame shame. Overall, extremely fun place to come watch an electronic band. The group ISREALLY nice, they totally come down to talk to fans and are so open to take pictures. I would love to come back here for any event. xoxo M.

I was here last night for a Bell X1 concert and it was sweeeet. I love how there was empty space in the middle as well as tables and chairs along the sides with warm glowy fake candles. It really set the mood. And you can stand and dance, or you can just sit and enjoy! Acoustics were nice too :] (My review might be slightly biased by Bell X1 since they’re all amazing.)
