Wind Mobile

Good for those who are OK with slower data speed.
My experience is limited to BYOD, on unlimited plan for $ 39/​month.
Of the many phones we have, wind only works on our iPhones. They don’t have LTE only 3G network. Data speed is slow, OK for Maps, emails, etc. but not for YouTube/​streaming. Often the phone is unable to find any data.
However, $ 39 for 5GB data, unlimited national calling and text, including international text is quite unbeatable.

Not only is their Data speed slow, 3 – 4 Mbps at most, its service is all over the place. Genererally ok, and I’m saying ok, not wow or great in the GTA, the moment you drive outside, it’s all over the place. Even being in Niagara Falls ON which should be completely covered, you go into pockets of Away and even Roaming across the border. Needless to say, their false advertising that you’ll always know what your bill will be is untrue. Our bill was all over the place, never $ 35, that’s all I can say, more like $ 41, $ 48, $ 71, since they charge for normal usage, i.e. phone calls, SMS, data on Away and roaming, even though you’re in your own country, Canada. Moreover, their solution, when I call, Sir, turn off your data roaming. When you turn off your data roaming, Away Data doesn’t work, which means your service received is even worse since travelling say on QEW towards Niagara would be impossible to connect. This is Wind, now!

I had $ 250 left on my WindTab and was gonna switch to a cheaper plan. Their rep offered a $ 100 promo if I have less than $ 150 on my WindTab. So I paid $ 100 to qualify on the spot. Guess what? The next bill came as $ 250, not only did they lie about the promo, I was penalized for switching the plan! Called the customer service over 10 times and wrote to the headquarters a month ago. All they did so far was to cut my service and forced me to pay. Luckily my contract ends in June. For those who are considering to sign with Wind, you may put up with the horrible signals for saving a few bucks per months, but may end up paying it all back one day if not more. Judging from the comments, I am sure I am not the only one. Never with them again!

Well its Wind Mobile a no frills mobile phone company.
Calls will drop, data will be slow and some texts will not go through. If you are heading to the woods you probably be roaming on another network or just have no signal.
But hey their prices are fair at under $ 40 for unlimited talk, text data and us roaming you can’t really complain. I do not use my phone for business nor do I travel outside of the city often so I’ll put up with all those negatives. After all I am saving roughly $ 100 a month by using Wind. That money is better in my pocket then in Bell, telus or rogers pocket book.
Just a word of advice, just don’t expect the same service quality as the big 3 if considering switching.

Switched from Bell and switched back 10 days later. Numerous issues. Horrible customer service. Did you know that due to the lack of towers your battery dies 2x faster? The further you are from a tower to connect to the more juice required to connect. Wind has the minimum number of towers to support their service. And no LTE. Pay the extra $ 5 or $ 10 a month with Bell or Rogers.

This company is probably one of the worst cell phone companies I have ever dealt with. After having the complete sh*t show that I had to deal with to cancel my phone, I received a collections notice in the mail today, turns out Wind Mobile decided to keep billing me 3 months after the phone was shut off and after I paid my balance.
DO NOT USE WIND MOBILE — SAVE YOURSELF THE GRIEF

I’m not a Wind customer yet, I’m locked in a contract with Telus, but I did enough research on them to suggest them to others. So both mum and dad signed on with Wind. A week later sis and her husband did too once they found out mum and dad loved it. And I already got a few friends to make the switch from Telus, Rogers, and Bell, to Wind… I should get credit for signing so many people up when I’m not even a customer yet lol.

After 3 months, I’m really happy with these guys. Ya the network isn’t the greatest, but if you live in the GTA and don’t stray too far, it’s fine. I’m on the $ 39.00 a month plan that incredibly has unlimited USA roaming… voice, data, text! Even when you’re off the network, calls are like 20 cents a minute. My worst bill has been $ 64.00 and my best was about $ 43.00, top that Rogers & Bell! Customer service has been excellent too.
If you’re using this for business, you’re foolish. But if you’re using it for personal and can live with the occasional dropout when you stray from Wind’s network, you will save a ton of money and still have decent cel service.
Wind mobile: You get what you pay for and much more.

After years of getting ripped off and brutalized by Rogers I decided to give up and go with the underdog Wind. Not such a hot idea in many regards, great in others.
PROS
No contract.
Cheap unlimited talk and unlimited data plan.
Unlimited calling across Canada.
You get to stick it to Canada’s mafia-​like telecom monopoly.
CONS
Horrible signal coverage. Phone often roams in the middle of Toronto or gets no signal at all.
Inaccurate coverage map. They claim to have coverage all the way up the 404 corridor but if I go north of highway 7 I get nothing. Tried getting a new SIM card and even upgraded my phone and still doesn’t work for me on the 404.
Although my plan has unlimited Canada wide calling I am often met with «Not enough on your account» when dialling long distance even when fully topped up. Wind has no explanation.
They cut off my phone a full week before the bill was even due and only allowed me to receive incoming calls even though my account was not past due. No explanation.
Severe internet throttling even when well below the high usage threshold where throttling is supposed to kick in.
Im pretty sure customer service is in India which makes the articulation of your issues with the service rep laborious and frustrating.
CONCLUSION
You get what you pay for. Price is nice, signal is garbage. I hate to say it but I am going to have to bite the bullet and go back to a major unless these guys can improve their signal strength in the next few months.
Three stars only because Im happy to not be getting hosed by Rogers anymore otherwise it would be a solid two star rating.

Way to go, Wind! Please don’t disappear or become acquired by Robbers. With this kind of value/​money, The provider will go far, very far. Ignore negative reviews from like 2 years ago. I’ve been using Wind hotspot for a while now (Fido’s pathetic 500 mb/​month mobile data plan just doesn’t cut it) and I’ve been getting great reception throughout GTA (have been travelling a lot), even in places where Fido/​Robbers) fails miserably (eg. Woodbridge!). Cannot wait until my Fido plan expires (very soon!) so that I can switch to Wind mobile permanently. Finally a good mobile carrier!

Those are the words I tend to use most when I think about the fact that I committed myself to a 3 year contact with these guys and the general «what the fuckery» type services that Wind has to offer.
I decided to upgrade from my crappy Samsung Q, to a Samsung 3 (yeah, I know the Samsung Galaxy 4 is out but that’s just too much tech for me to handle right now) and I ended up purchasing a «Lightly Loved» one for a «bargain» at $ 299, fair enough, but the fact that Wind split that payment and tacked $ 149 of that price on to my existing Wind account balance and then to add insult to injury Wind has the nerve to tell me that my outgoing texts and calls will be suspended because of that owing balance… oh and thanks for offering the option to pay off this balance with ONLY a credit card btw.
Seriously Wind? It’s like you need a good dose of Preparation H after enduring Wind’s buggery approach to collections.
As for Wind’s 3 and 4G «speeds» it’s pretty embarrassingly slow, I’m talking in the league of that awkward guy in the Rogers commercials slooooow. Not impressed Wind, not impressed AT ALL!

Switched from Fido. Paid the 300 $ cancellation fee, sold my old phone and i’m happy! Used a little too much internet and they charged me 119 $.
Wind Mobile Pros: Pretty much fixed price (although they did charge me 10 cent’s extra for something on my last bill, but i’ll let it slide)
— Pretty big coverage map
–Unlimited everything (almost, internet speeds are cut after badly after 6GB)
–Pretty good customer service (in my opinion). Bought my phone from them and 2 weeks later it goes on sale! 100 $ off, called them up and they gave me a credit, didn’t have to pay my bill for 2.5 month.
–Almost no dropped calls (had like 2 in the last 8 month)
Cons:
–Low internet speeds comparing to others. Usual speeds are around 3mb/​sec download and 0.9 upload. When you go over 5−6GB it drops a LOT, cant remember exactly.
–Still blank signal spots right in the middle of the city, only affects internet though in my case.
Wind Tab is kind of a scam, its another name for Contract, but when you are paying 45.20 $ including tax its hard to complain.

I am so happy I finally was able to switch to WIND mobile from Rogers (the name that should not be named).
Like Marc D., I also have the holiday miracle plan which is unbeatable in Canada.
Customer service is quick, you can make changes to your account via SMS, direct dial to hear your voicemails, and the service availability is far better than others may have you believe. I’ve been rocking my Nexus Galaxy in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver with zero problems. I’ve recruited as many friends as I can to jump on board and welcome them to the conversation… and no one has service complaints. So that’s good.
What a treat.

I’ve bitched and moaned about the ridiculous rates the various mobile carriers charge here in Canada numerous times. The Rogers/​Bell/​Telus (RobUs) trifecta just annoys me with the ridiculous nickle and diming and excess fees they charge for what in the majority of other countries is dirt cheap compared to here.
Enter this new carrier, Wind. Granted, they don’t have the same footprint as the Big 3 if you are outside of the cities. But their current deal was just too good to pass up for me. This promotion apparently only runs until Christmas, but is good for the lifetime of the account:
$ 40/​month gives me (when in their coverage area):
— Unlimited calling to anyplace in Canada and the US
— Unlimited texting to any number worldwide
— Unlimited MMS to anyplace in Canada and the US
— Unlimited incoming calls
— Unlimited incoming texts
— All call control features like caller ID, missed call alerts, call forwarding, conference calling, call waiting, voicemail, etc.
and the kicker:
— Unlimited data (they throttle data once you reach 5GB per month to a slower speed — but I doubt I will ever reach that threshhold)
Yes, $ 40 for all of that. No system access fees, etc. You just add on HST. Not too shabby for Canada!
And yes, their coverage outside of the major cities they currently cover is considered roaming (they let you roam onto other major providers) which they charge you for. But they don’t gouge like some others do. For roaming rates when down in the States they charge just 25 cents per minute to call anyplace in the US or Canada. When someplace in Canada outside of their zone it is the same 25 cents. Not too bad, considering they are likely paying roughly that much to the major providers who are covering the roaming.
I had been using Wind on a much reduced plan from this previously and have been quite happy with the coverage. But this was just an amazing promotion that I had to sign up for — so glad they let current customers activate this promo.
Oh, and there is of course no long term contract. Free to cancel anytime I want.
Woohoo! Finally reasonable mobile service with good data, etc.
