Yonge Market 506

After working out at the Y around the corner, rather than cancelling out the workout with a Burrito or a slice of pizza, it’s nice having this little market to pick up some fresh sliced fruit, or a container of blueberries that often seem to be on sale. They also sell a lot of Chinese veggies, which is convenient instead of going to Spadina or Gerrard East.
Considering the entire strip of restaurants across the street were demolished and will soon be yet another condo, it’s nice having this shop in the neighbourhood for healthy fruits and vegetables!

I went to Yonge Market 506 today for the first time after reading such positive reviews about it — while I agree with the other reviews for the most part, I was slightly let down (but only for a couple of reasons).
It looks like a regular produce store and it’s nice and cosy. It’s also great that it’s located just 5 mins from me so picking up food basics was pretty convenient. They had pretty much everything you could hope for when it comes to fruits and vegetables and they also had random other things like condiments, eggs, milk, hand soaps and toilet paper to name a few. Overall, I was happy with the selection and was able to pick up basic food stuffs like olive oil, mushrooms, potatoes and so on for less than what you’d probably get at, say, Loblaws.
I was, however, a bit disappointed that they didn’t have a slightly broader selection in terms of what they offer — I would’ve liked to see at least bread and meat for sale. I’m not saying they should stock a large variety of items, but just a bit more would’ve been great.
All in all, good place to get basics, cheap, nice people as well.

I have been living in the area for the past month, and I wish I had walked into this place sooner. They have great produce selection for their size, and you can usually find some great deals! I should have gotten in the habit of stopping by here first before heading to Metro, Sobey’s, or Loblaws to see if I could save myself some time and/​or $$. I would keep in mind they only accept cash or debit. and charge a 25 cent fee for debit use. However, realistically I am sure if you have found some items on your grocery list here you would still be saving some money.
Unfortunately, I won’t be around to stop in regularly. but believe it is worth checking out to see what they offer. As per the tip below; it is like Chinatown without having to walk over to Chinatown. I have bought all types of fruit there and have never had issues with quality. Last but definitely not least, each time I have experienced kind customer service which I always appreciate :)!

There are no local fruit and veggie markets in the downtown core except this one. It’s a super convenient location with a nice selection of fruit for cheap. Chinatown will probably be even cheaper for produce, but if you don’t wanna make the trek to Spadina on foot or by TTC, then Yonge Market is the place to go to. It’s way cleaner anyway with a much friendlier staff that remembers you.
Come here to look for fruit and veggies before going to the supermarkets (Loblaws charges ridiculous amounts).

A great find for me has to score high on value and convenience. This market is both!
I am an adventurous eater but hate the love-​hate feeling when I go into Loblaws at MLG or Putersari market for an onion and have to search forever. Plus, I always come out $ 20+ poorer with random sauce/​snack/​mystery ingredient, and too tired to cook.
Needless to say, there are a few other markets in the area but all are more expensive and time consuming. This little gem is super convenience and are always stacked with fresh fruits and veggies at jaw-​droppingly low prices (read: packaged salad mix for $ 2, 2 quarts of strawberries or blueberries for $ 4…I’ve even seen 3 quarts for that price here!). I also love that they have Asian essentials like thousand year old eggs, salted duck eggs, sunflower seeds, seseme oil, tofu, enoki mushrooms, preserved plums, ramen, etc. No more renting Car 2 Go to go to T&T! Bring cash or debit. Royal Bank and TD are just down Yonge, and Wellesley, respectively. Now to enjoy my tasty avocado, spinach, tomato, brown rice and salted seaweed salad. All purchased at 506.

This is the place to be for cheap Asian veggies and fruit!!! I regularly buy bok choy, spring onion, tofu, miso paste and bean sprouts here. It’s nothing fancy but the prices are amazing and the cashier is always nice. Definitely my favourite place in this area! Hot tip: they also have eggs in the back fridge.

BOTTOM LINE: CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP — a Chinatown-​esque fruit/​veggie mart on the Yonge strip!
It seems to be the norm that (crappy) businesses flip into more (crappy) businesses along this strip of Yonge. Want a beaver magnet with your outdated Blue Jays jersey and knock-​off shoes so you can look inconspicuous walking into an adult video store? You can get all of these within any given 5-​store radius on this sorry strip of Yonge between College and Wellesley!
Thankfully, this little mart recently opened and you no longer need to be price-​gouged by the Lowlaws/​Sobeys/​Metro. The biggest difference between this place and your standard supermarket in Chinatown is that it’s CLEAN! And boy, what a difference it makes! Anyway, if you make lots of smoothies and need a place to get cheap, fresh fruit, this is your place.
