I ordered a birthday cake and a dozen cookies from here for a sweet 16 party.
Christine was a pleasure to deal with and I had quite high hopes as the reviews were decent and the pictures she sent me were lovely.
I picked up the cake and cookies and they were GORGEOUS. Exactly what I was hoping for.
Unfortunately they did NOT taste as good as they looked. The cookies were rock hard and bland and the cake was dry. A huge shame.
I will try another place if I need a pretty cake in the future.

Yummy Stuff made the cake for my wedding in June 2015 and did a fantastic job! We had a three layer cake: two layers of lemon cake with lemon curd, and one of raspberry cake with fresh raspberries. The staff at Yummy Stuff gave us many different flavour options to try during our consultation (free of charge), and worked with us to draw up a personalized design for our cake. The cake turned our perfectly and was DELICIOUS, moist and flavourful. Morag, who I believe is the owner, delivered our cake personally on our wedding day and helped me get it set up in our dining room with the cake topper. I would truly recommend my experience with Yummy Stuff from start to finish!

Unfortunately, I have to report that my experiences at Yummy Stuff have left me wanting. And it’s a real shame because they really don’t have a lot of competition in the area, so for me, the bar was set pretty low to begin with.
I can forgive other failings if the food itself is incredible, but after getting a variety of items over multiple visits (pretty much everything other than a whole cake), I’m officially underwhelmed. The cupcakes don’t live up to others the city has to offer. The buttercream is sub-​par, the cake parts aren’t as rich and moist as they should be. Really makes me wonder whether it would be worth ordering a whole cake. Perhaps because of proximity, one day I will and update this review, but probably no time soon.
Their cookies and squares are okay, but I need them to be amazing to justify the calories, and they just aren’t — I can get the same quality frequenting my office building’s bake sales.
I will say that their meltaway cookies (two small and extremely light shortbread cookies sandwiching a delicious lemon cream) are pretty darn good, though. These are probably the only thing worth coming back for.
Finally, as others have mentioned, the service here ain’t always the greatest. Never rude, but I always get the impression that I’m more of a nuisance to be rung up than a customer to be served. I get the impression that if you’re a bride-​to-​be, you get fawned upon, and everyone else gets especially fake smiles.

Had my son’s first birthday cake made here after shopping around for both price and taste. His cake was GORGEOUS and delicious. Guests said best kid’s birthday cake they had ever had. Portion estimates very generous, staff (Corey) a true pleasure to work with (dropped off a plate to colour match no issues, lots of smiles and laughs with this team). Will order cakes from them again — think this has become my regular celebration dessert place! Chocolate better than the vanilla. You won’t be disappointed!

Yummy stuff is definitely yummy! But on the expensive side…

Absolutely THE BEST red velvet in Toronto!!!
I have been a customer of this bakery since before 2010 and still have not found anything as yummy as Yummy Stuff.

The cupcakes here are decent, but there are definitely better in Toronto (The Wedding Cake Shoppe or Bakerbots, for example). The chocolate, vanilla and red velvet cake were good, but the carrot cake could have been spicier (more cinnamon, nutmeg, or whatever spices they use in the batter). The buttercream was okay but it had a slightly slick and slightly crispy quality that was reminiscent of those grocery store sheet cakes with the roses on them. Tasty, but with a hint of not so tasty. The cream cheese icing did not have enough cream cheese in it for my liking. Also, the girl who was working when I went definitely could have been more friendly. I might go back if I was walking by and had a craving for something sweet, but I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

I want to be clear when you read this. A few co-​workers and I went CLEAR ACROSS THE CITY for this place.
It started with a cookie that we got at work. We ate several (which felt like hundreds) and we were hooked. One day, we decided to trek across the city just to go to the place where these delicacies are created. We found it and we bought cupcakes. I got the s’mores cupcake (which I HIGHLY recommend) and a few others.
The staff weren’t as friendly but I chalked it up to being the end of the day and everyone is entitled to a bad day. So I wouldn’t worry about that.
The product speaks for itself here. Also I liked how their icing wasn’t butter cream and more sugary (which I prefer).
Great products but the location is out of the way for someone who lives out in North York.
$ 15 for half a dozen cupcakes — GREAT deal!

Well I have to say while I love to see a snappy place like Yummy Stuff in the Ronce area — I completely agree with the unfortunate person who received very bad service around her wedding cake being made in the wrong flavour.
My experiences in ordering several birthday cakes over the past couple years is that the service is dreadful and insulting (very sorry to say). It’s almost as if they are doing me a great favour making a cake and I should be oh so grateful. They require alot of advance notice (weeks!) to make a cake to order — or so I was told. This versus one day’s notice at Dufflets.
Each time I’ve gone in the staff have just rubbed me the wrong way with a particularly disinterested attitude. When you go in o celebrate something and spend money to pay their salaries and come out feeling disrespected and frustrated — it’s time to move on.
Sadly even when my hubby asked me this week to get his bday cake there I cringed and refused. I am instead going to where I know I will be treated very well and ordering and picking up a cake is easy peasy and joyous (Dufflets on Queen)…

I drive across the city for my Yummy stuff fix. Absolutely the best!

I can’t believe how disappointed I was. For a place that is known for red velvet my cake was disgusting. First off I thought it was chocolate! It was full of red die it looked dark brown and tasted like chocolate. I called to ask and she assured me it was red velvet. The die was so strong my tongue was dark red fare eating a piece. I was just so disappointed and my guests thought the cake was terrible.

Seriously, Yummy Stuff has some of THE best red velvet cake in the city.
I was lucky enough to be in the area for brunch, and had to pick up a birthday cake for my sister last minute. I searched «cake» on my trusty Unilocal app, and Yummy Stuff was the closest bakery nearby. I scrolled through reviews and saw some glowing, and some sort of on the opposite end, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
It’s a very small shop and plain layout inside, but your eye is instantly drawn to all of the different types of cupcakes and sweets! For those of you looking for vegan or gluten-​free cupcakes, Yummy Stuff carries both!
I bought a really cute small cake ($ 25 even, no tax!) that was a light green with spots. Presentation is really adorable & clean. The cake, which is 6 inches and doesn’t sound like much, is a very tall cake, so even a thin slice is very filling! It’s meant for 6 – 8 people, but we cut slices for 9 people and still had a good chunk leftover!
The red velvet was super duper moist and flavourful. The cream cheese icing inside was really delicious and not too heavy like I find some cream cheese icings to be. The green sugar icing on the cake was good too! This cake was a huge hit at my sisters party. Would definitely buy again.
I tried out one of the red velvet brownies (only $ 2 — what a steal!!) and it was good! I don’t think it was freshly baked that day, so I think it would have been better if I had the chance to devour it when it was freshly made, but it was still yummy.
I was eyeing a banana pie that looked delectable, and the pies are a good alternative if you’re looking for something bigger than a cupcake, but cheaper than a cake. I definitely want to come back & try’em. They are also cheaper than buying an entire cake.
I found the service was super sweet, and helpful.
What a find! Can’t wait to come back and try more items on the menu! Omnomnom!

Yummy Stuff has a lot of mixed reviews on here and while I am a fan, I can understand why.
The merchandising in the bakery is lovely: lots of pretty frosted sugar cookies, a diverse array of cupcakes, cakes, cookies, and squares, and everything smells delicious. They have a cupcake of the month that seems to follow a vintage-​inspired theme, which really suits the atmosphere of Parkdale. Another great thing is they have cakes you can buy off the shelf, which is great if you are heading off to a party or want something pretty to dress up your dessert table!
The baked goods can be hit and miss: the hits are AMAZING but the misses are really disappointing. Anything made with a red velvet theme is great– the red velvet brownies are big, delicious, and a steal at $ 2. I’ve had great experiences with their cupcakes of the month, they are generally fresh and tasty. The large cakes are great too, simple, chic, and made-​from-​scratch. It’s actually really difficult to find good cake you can buy off the shelf without pre-​ordering. I’ve been victim to an unsavoury and dry cupcake here, but as people have stated, it’s the vanilla and fruity type ones. Order what they do best, and you will not be disappointed!
I really don’t think the prices are anything to complain about, yes, the cupcakes are a little under $ 3 a piece but they are very generous and filling. For a boutique bakery, it’s pretty much the norm. Sure, go to Metro if you want something cheaper, but it’s probably topped with gummy worms and cool whip.

Let me begin this four-​star review by saying that I am not a fan of cupcakes or fancy cakes (I don’t get the icing and decorations part). Nevertheless a friend of mine convinced me to try something the other day and I quite enjoyed it. The cake was fresh, soft and melted in my mouth. The lady behind the bar was patient and explained what some of their eclectic named products actually contained. For the price, it is above what I would pay (since I mostly bake at home) but I get it, it’s the intricate decoration I am paying for.
This place makes lots of special occasion cakes — some of them were quite interesting and humorous. Again, not my cup of tea so I reserve this review for cupcakes alone.

The best red Velvet cupcakes ever. Sometimes I will be in front of another bakery that sells cupcakes and think… yes that’s what I want, a cupcake from yummy stuff!

When we met in person over two years ago and discussed the error Yummy Stuff made, I apologized profusely for the mistake and immediately offered to refund your money. As I explained to you when we met, for some reason, I had not received any emails or messages from you after your wedding in November 2007. Again, I do sincerely apologize if the treatment you received was inadequate. I know I was not in the shop when you came to collect the refund but please do not take that as an attitude of „no big deal“. I do appreciate you letting me know about the error and I have done everything I can to make up for it. Lindsay, I take my business very seriously and I take my customers’ concerns very seriously as well. I am not sure why you chose to post this review again after the issue had been resolved. If you have any further concerns, I politely ask that you please contact me personally so that we can once and for all put this behind us.

Thanks for your note, it’s great to have such a clear example of your communication style, and attitude. I welcome the opportunity to respond. Your choice of language is interesting, and revealing. My review of Yummy Stuff speaks to the facts, with no embellishment, nothing inflammatory. What happened is this: You made my wedding cake the wrong flavour. That fact is not in dispute. You obviously have issues with communication, as you were impossible to reach before and after my wedding, and by your own admission missed multiple calls and emails regarding this egregious mistake. I showed you these emails when we met in person, so this fact is not in dispute. Like most brides, my wedding cake was very important to me. If someone made your wedding cake the wrong flavour, would you give them a glowing, positive Unilocal review? Perhaps this would be an unreasonable expectation of your customers?
Toronto is a small town. I’ve met a friend of yours, and she told me how upset you were that I had posted my experience on Chowhound, and how hard that you had worked to get my post removed. She didn’t say you were sorry, just how YOU were upset at ME for telling the truth about the situation. Again, facts are facts — you made my wedding cake the wrong flavour, and then you didn’t even have the decency to respond to calls and emails informing you of your mistake. When I came to you in person, you did not «apologize profusely», you just said that you hadn’t gotten my calls or emails, and that it was a long time ago. You offered me a partial refund, not a full refund. I was gracious enough to accept that in good faith, but on my return to your shop to pick up my refund, your staff had no idea why I was there. They said that you weren’t there, that you hadn’t mentioned about anyone coming by. They were rude and dismissive. Finally I blurted out, Morag made my wedding cake the wrong flavour? «Ohhh thaaaaat… Yeah, she left you cash.» And they handed me a pile of bills. I stood there, aghast, staring at the wad of cash in my hand. After all this time, my messed up wedding memories were only worth this… cash? Really? You couldn’t use an envelope? Write a little card? Offer a little cake in the right flavour? Nothing. I must have looked confused, because as I looked again at your staff, they seemed to be wondering why I was still standing there. «So», perky teen #1 said, «like… sorry about that!!» «Yeah, sorry!» chimed perky #2. This was an insulting, demeaning, and disturbing experience.
I know that you already know this story, as it was posted on Chowhound. If you cared so much, why didn’t you respond on Chowhound, and explain your side of the story? Could it be because there were multiple comments, also claiming the same sort of poor customer service, rudeness, indifference, not to mention so-​so or stale baked goods?
The tone of your message says it all. You can say whatever you want, but you didn’t take my wedding cake seriously, you didn’t take my phone calls and emails seriously, you didn’t take «resolving» the issue seriously. I got a partial refund, poorly delivered. I’m just telling the truth about my wedding cake. If you need to send messages of further insult and intimidation, and to insinuate that it’s somehow my fault that I have a negative comment, perhaps you should take a serious look at your business practices, as well as the attitudes of yourself and your staff. Clearly, resolving issues isn’t your strong suit. It might help if you don’t make people’s wedding cakes the wrong flavour to start, but trying to blame them for being bothered by it truly takes the cake.

This shop is located in Parkdale bordering Roncesvalles. It is truly a hidden gem amongst the old antique stores and dollar stores lined up along the very end of Queen Street West. It’s a good thing I discovered this shop AFTER I moved out of Parkdale or else I would have been going there every day!
The only «flaw» about this shop is that they didn’t really have that many cupcake flavours when I went there. I did have the pleasure of tasting their red velvet cupcake and their cupcake of the month flavour, white velvet. The white velvet cupcake consisted of a spongy vanilla batter cake topped with strawberry vanilla icing. It is so light and so incredibly delicious — I could have eaten a whole box of those but thank goodness I only bought the 2 cupcakes. The red velvet is hands down the BEST red velvet cupcake in Toronto. Ever. Not even FTLOC can beat this red velvet cupcake. The cream cheese icing on top is perfect. Not too sweet and just sweet enough so that you can taste that it is cream cheese icing not icing sugar overload like some places. The red velvet CAKE itself is also not too sweet and extremely moist. I am craving one as I type this.
I hear they have a S’MORES cupcake of the month in August which I must try as the picture looks delicious on their blog.
Definitely worth the walk/​street car ride over. Try their red velvet. Best in town. Hands down. Trust.

I had the month’s special — chocolate with passion fruit filling and chocolate ganache on top. (Standard flavours in stock include chocolate, vanilla and red velvet.) I was disappointed the inside was just a squirt of filling and the ganache topping was kind of hard. I think the cupcakes with fillings were better at another well known shop…
The prices have gone up $ 2.75 plus tax came to $ 3.11. Boo.

Clearly I came on the wrong day based on all of the other reviews. I’m in line with Brian C. (we went on the same day). My cupcake’s icing was also almost frozen and the cake was dry.
I guess I need to make a second trip so I can actually enjoy some yummy stuff.

A big cupcake craving hit me yesterday, and since I was in the area visiting a friend, I decided to hit up Yummy Stuff, for some yummy treats :) I’ve walked by this bakery hundreds of times as Im always in the area visiting friends and my bf, and yet somehow, I have never actually bought anything here. A surprising task for someone with a sweet tooth as big as mine.
I got 6 cupcakes for all of us to share, including the red velvet, mango, vanilla, chocolate, raspberry and maple-​bacon. The red velvet was by far the best, super moist and not too sweet. The rasperry cupcake was a little too sweet (even fo me) but the fresh raspberries baked into it were a nice touch. The mango cupcake is basically a regular vanilla cupcake with mango flavoured icing, and it is pretty yummy. The chocolate and vanilla cupcakes were just what you’d expect of these two classic flavours, and finally the maple bacon: Well, it was a bit dry, but still yummy. It has the right ammount of saltiness to it, and the oats in the cake give it good texture, and some bite to it, wich I particularly enjoyed.
The six cupcakes came out TO $ 15.00, so they’re definetly not cheap. The store also has other yummy offerings such as cookies, tarts and mini sized, one bit cupcakes that looked really cute, so I’m going to give them a try on my next visit. They also make speacialty cakes that looked beautiful on the display.
All the cupcakes we tried were very fresh, and had the right ammount of frosting on them, so I was very pleased with the overall product. I’m definetly going to be making reapeat visits to this bakery.
