In the heart of Unionville main street is the Old Fire Hall Confectionary! What was once an old fire hall was later transformed into a haven for those who’ve got a sweet tooth. From macaroons and innovative candies to cold slab or soft serve ice cream and cakes. Either way you’ll find a range of flavors that’ll capture your attention.
This place can get quite busy especially during the summer so be prepared to wait in line.
The ambiance is pretty cool with one side serving up cold treats and the other with cakes and macaroons.
Coming here after dance class we opted for some ice cream, she had their soft serve raspberry twist, meanwhile I had their almond truffle and sweet n salty caramel on a waffle cone.
I’ve got to say, we were both satisfied and couldn’t help but savor every moment… prices are reasonable and the service is efficient.
Definitely an awesome hang out for great desserts.

I love the old firehall confectionary! It’s any kids (young and the younger at heart) sweet tooth haven. The ice cream is one of the best ones I’ve tasted. It took the flavour chocolate to a whole new different level. Word can’t even describe it. It has to be tasted. The macarons and cookies were also delightful. Made fresh daily. Not to mention the view is adorable. They tried to remake old small town. It’s our go to ice cream place if we need some de-​stressing.

I think this place is okay, but not particularly exciting (when it comes to the ice cream.) Don’t be too frightened by the lineup, because the staff are pretty efficient and they keep the line moving pretty well. I had ice cream (raspberry thunder) in a waffle cone, which you can see (and smell) them making fresh on site. The ice cream is from Kawartha Dairy Company so you can’t go wrong with that. They have a decent selection (10+ flavours) which are mostly pretty standard/​basic, nothing particularly innovative, but they are good. They also have soft serve and frozen yogurt, which I would try if I happen to be around this area again. The waffle cone is tasty, you can really taste the batter and everything, as it’s fresh. Overall it’s a good place for standard ice cream, I like it, it just doesn’t stand out to me.

Love this place for the tourist aspect of it. Beautiful display of chocolate and cakes worthy of (several) ig moments. This confectionary is certainly one of the most visited stores on main st unionville. Not only does it offer kids satisfaction for their sweet tooth, but also brings more memories for adults (and a sugar fix of course). The shop itself is clean and spacious and line ups for ice cream is separated by bars so you wont be running into people.
Their ice cream is also delicous, a perfect companion while youre taking a walk in the neighborhood. Its not overly sweet like a lot of places can be and so creamy. Plus. They offer ‘flavour bursts’ which is essentially a ring of flavour around the edges of the ice cream (for vanilla soft serve only). Price wise its a actually not that bad — less than $ 4 a pop for a reg cone. Portions are a good size too.
The confectionary also offers candy at the back of the store, from traditonal pixie sticks to more modern day style candies. Those i actually find to be on the pricier side. It is fun to look at if this place is new to you, but for the locals its all about the ice cream.

This place is a personal favourite! The ice cream is amazing & there’s a huge selection of chocolate, candy, and assorted treats as well. You’ll find practically whatever you want here, whether it be cupcakes, popcorn, candy apples, macarons, froyo, bottled soda, or truffles. The ambience of the Confectionery is also lovely :)
This place is one of the most popular on Main Street Unionville, so be prepared for a line-​up if you’re there during the warmer months. There’s also no seating inside — you can sit outside (there are patio tables and chairs available) or take a stroll on the sidewalk.

This place was definitely one of the highlights at Unionville, it’s always seems to have people wandering around eyecandying all the sweets!!! They have all kinds of sweets such as ice cream, soft serve, pastries, cakes, chocolates, boxed gifts chocolate etc.
There’s no seating on the inside but there’s a few patio seats on the outside. I went straight for the ice creams because they looked really good. They have a few decorated cones (dipped in various nuts, or rainbow/​chocolate sprinkles). I would definitely recommend the salted caramel ice cream OHMYGOD so good, so fat but definitely no regrets. A single scoop was around $ 5.
I also got one of their dark chocolate bars on the other side of the counter for around $ 5 and it was aite, it was so hard I thought it’d break my teeth. I also got the chocolate fudge bars ($ 5)? They come in a small pack of chunk bars and those were so good! It was dark chocolate pieces with caramel and nuts. I also got to try the green tea macaron but I thought it was extremely sweet and not that special, has very little green tea flavour, but I haven’t tried the other macarons.

This was not my first time here nor will it be my last. This place is amazing. I remember when this was just a start up not that long ago. Located in the quaint village of Unionville along Main Street. The Old Fire Hall has become the anchor of the Main Street Strip. The selection of truffles are amazing, the service incredible. Melt in your mouth delicious. Caution should be noted, this business is changing hands and likely to change.

A Markham girl for life, I’m surprised I haven’t reviewed this one yet! Living on the west coast now, this was on my list for a must-​visit during my last trip home. Follow them on Instagram and you’ll soon think the same. Was it freezing out and I got ice cream anyway? That would be a yes (don’t tell my Mom! haha). I also tried their dark hot chocolate — smooth and rich, but not too sweet. I picked up a couple of small cupcakes (the regular size are huge, and this way I got to try two!). I had vanilla strawberry and chocolate. They were light and tasty, with icing that was just right. While you’re definitely paying a bit for the location and vibe, it’s 100% worth it. Can’t wait for my next summer visit where the ice cream won’t need gloves along with it :)

Went on a spontaneous visit to Old Firehall Confectionery! Located in Unionville, this little town looked like an entirely different area in Ontario. The architecture of the buildings and nearby houses were different, with more of a Victorian style type. Not knowing that it would be like a little town, I was really pleasantly surprised at how quaint everything was.
With an area of free parking nearby, we walked to the Old Firehall Confectionery. This building used to be a firehouse, which is unique spot to occupy now that it is a dessert house!
The Old Firehall Confectionery has ample space inside and they specialize in desserts. They have a huge range of candy, sweets, chocolate, truffles, chocolate barks, macarons, soft serve ice cream and waffle cones, cakes, etc.
They have truffles, chocolates in the shape of Maple Leaf — Toronto famous icon, hearts and penguins?! The penguins are so adorable and the details are so intricate. It’s amazing. Ice cream spot, which offers different flavours of ice cream, soft serve and waffle cones!
With Easter Monday coming up, they also have chocolates in the shape of bunnies and eggs which are super adorable! Make sure to grab some sweets here in time for Easter Monday ;) ! Those Easter eggs are HUGE, by the way.
At the back of the store, they have this amazing wall of candy — which reminds me of the M&M store in New York City. There’s an empty container on the right side of this photo and you can fill it up with candies that you like from the wall. It’s super cool. I wish that my photo was slightly more clearer!
Their macaron section was what I was interested in. I was surprised they only had 6 flavours available. was somehow expecting more. They had a pamphlet stating their macarons and I grabbed one. They had about 20 flavours so I guess each day serves different flavours.
From the selection, I chose Coffee, Praline, Jasmine Tea and Lavender. I skipped out in the Mango and Blueberry macaron flavour.
The girl at the counter was really sweet and nice as well.
Onto the review of the macarons:
Coffee — This macaron had a strong taste of coffee (no duh) But I was expecting it to be abit on the sweeter side but still pretty good ⁴⁄₅
Lavender — I was amazed at the flavour. It tasted like lavender tea, with a light mix of earl grey taste in it as well! 4.5÷5
Jasmine tea — This flavour really caught me off guard! Was expecting more of a light mellow taste like a Rose flavoured macaron, but it turned out to be my favourite one of the 4! The macaron tasted of a slight chocolate and creamy finish. Super yum!!! ⁵⁄₅
Praline — I had high hopes for this one, but I couldn’t really taste much except for the nuttiness flavour. It was fresh and crunchy because of the sprinkles on top of the macaron. When it said «Praline», I was expecting a taste similar to Starbuck’s seasonal Chestnut Praline latte hahah 3.5÷5
I would definitely like to come back in the spring and summer time, to try more of their macarons and perhaps their seasonal ice cream flavours that everyone has been raving about!

You know those old black and white movies where kids say «gee golly» and buy licorice and lollies for a nickel? This is where they would buy those licorice and lollies. Though inflation is a thing and 5 cent bags of candy don’t exist anymore, you still get that old time feel and childish sense of wonder here at Old Firehall Confectionery. For those of us that aren’t kids anymore, it’s still a fun place with a gourmet twist: delicate macarons, decorated pastries, and painted truffles. Though I love coming here just to take a look around and smell things, I like to treat myself once in awhile to some of their delicious desserts.
Ice cream: They serve big, tasty soft-​serve ice cream cones here. The blueberry dip is bright blue and slightly tart, a perfect balance with the sweet ice cream. I tried the butterscotch dip before and wasn’t a fan of that one though. They also have dippin’ dots, which are always a fun twist to eating ice cream the traditional way.
Macarons: I love their macarons. They’ve got great texture and the flavours are very distinct. Sometimes I buy myself a box of six to savour and then immediately feel guilty for eating all of them in one sitting…
Pastries: This place tempts me every time with their beautiful pastries. So far, I’ve only tried one: a strawberry tart. It was flaky and fruity, with just the right amount of sweetness. I’m definitely going to try more of these.
Truffles: Bright, colourful, gorgeous to see placed in rows behind the counter. Taste-​wise though, I think they were pretty ordinary. They would make great gifts but I don’t tend to buy these very often for myself.
Sadly, Main Street Unionville is losing bits and pieces of its traditional feel, something that made it truly special. I saw a sign for the opening of a Chinese bubble tea/​dessert/​whatever place right in the middle… and they already have a Real Fruit on one end and a Chinese escape room on the other. I hope that whatever happens, Old Firehall Confectionery remains standing strong and proud, serving up sweet treats and nostalgia to everyone in Markham.

For the ice cream desserts 5 stars! For the macarons, 3 stars.
During summertime, there’s usually a massive lineup out the door for their delicious ice cream treats. I wouldn’t blame them, because they are DELICIOUS. I love the blueberry dipped waffle cone served with soft serve vanilla ice cream — my favourite treat of all times! Of course, there’s chocolate dip, chocolate soft serve or the twist available as well.
They have a mini store where they sell packaged treats, and a section for handmade chocolates and macarons. I tried their macarons once, but it was a «not my favourite» kind of macarons. They definitely have a lot of creative flavours, get this — siracha chocolate, WHAT?! But the texture of the macaron, was a little rough, and not too silky. In addition, the entire shell seemed to collapse when I bit into in, instead of just that part melting gently into your mouth.
I guess I’ll have to try their chocolates next time to see how they are!

This is the best place to come for all your sweet treat cravings! And why not make a day of it, Unionville is awesome! There’s a bunch to do and look at and some really nice photo ops!

My boyfriend and I spent the day in Unionville a couple weeks ago and this was our first stop. Obviously we wanted everything but we had to eat with our brains not our eyes (as hard as that can be sometimes). We ended up getting ice creams with fancy cones (as shown in the pic) he got birthday cake and I got some kind of chocolate, we got 2 macarons, a chocolate and raspberry, and a peanut butter buttercream cupcake. O M G I almost died when I saw they had a peanut butter cupcake. We tried to save it for later but it melted because it was a super hot day so we had no choice but to eat the melty goodness.
Everything was amazing!!! I highly recommend this place, it’s good for everything, my mom buys me stuff from here every year for Valentine’s day: P It’s a little pricey but well worth it!
They also have a bunch of rare candy and collectables. I made my boyfriend start a Pez collection and I’ve been looking for a Buzz Lightyear one for him for a while and they had one! It was wonderful :)

This is one of the best dessert places on Unionville Main Street. I remember walking past the firehall ever since I was little and the line-​ups haven’t changed. Walking past Old Firehall Confectionery on a nice summer evening, you’re bound to see a line of people waiting for delicious and sweet goodies.
From Kawartha ice cream flavours, tart & fruity froyo, chocolate-​dipped fruits & candies, mini cakes, cupcakes, macarons, and tarts… as well as packaged bars of chocolates made from beans all around the world to packaged popcorn and a refreshing selection of glass-​bottled sodas… anyone and everyone with a sweet tooth (or any kind of tooth) will find something tempting and satisfying to taste.
Over the years, I’ve tried their ice cream which is always not toocreamy but light, and their froyo. A friend recently got their two froyo flavours — berry and mango — in a twist and I sampled it — it was sweet and tart and perfect as a l’il light refresher — especially after a nice meal along Main St.
Their truffles are also amazing — the prices of the Firehall’s goods will surprise you a bit but they are worth every penny. Their baked goods and chocolates are made in-​store so you can definitely count on consistent quality and perfect flavours. For those looking for a must-​try truffle, I recommend the grean tea flavour and the blueberry yoghurt one. The green tea one is nice and creamy and so is the blueberry one but with a fruitier and slightly tart taste.
Their packaged chocolate bars are also a good treat to take-​out. Last one I had was the 70% cacao dark chocolate with caramelized pistachios — a great blend of bitter chocolate and nuts — a good choice for those with a smaller sweet tooth.
Chocolate-​covered goods include a rocky road marshmallow — a marshmallow dipped in chocolate and coated with peanuts. This was a really sweet treat which we took a while to finish — great for those who really like nutty chocolate and sweeeeeet sweeeet goods.
Another cool dessert that I’d recommend is the Kalamansi macaron. Kalamansi is a small citrus fruit from the Philippines — a small, round, and usually green sour and slightly sweet fruit that, when cut open, has orange pulp. The intense flavours of the calamansi pair well with the sweetness found in macarons. Although the kalamansi macaron itself isn’t sour (it’s sweet), there’s a distinguishable kalamamsi citrus flavour — a flavour that can’t be imitated with other common citrus fruits like the orange or the lemon.
Old Firehall Confectionery is a must-​visit to anyone strolling along Unionville Main Street and a definite come-​again to those who have already had a taste of what they have to offer. For your sweet cravings, this confectionery is sure to satisfy your needs.

This place is beautiful! The ice cream, the chocolates and candy, the decorations. All of it! They pretty much have anything a kid wants when they go into a store! I barely ever get anything when I come here, but they’ve definitely got something that will satisfy an instant craving when you’re walking down Unionville Main Street.
With almost all types of ice creams on cones or what have you to truffles and beautifully designed chocolate, you will want to eat everything in sight! All sorts of candies in the back, and even glass Coke and Sprite bottles, everything is right here when you want it!
The only thing is that it’s quite pricey in here, but it’s justified. Everything is made from scratch and absolutely delicious! Some of these items are even great gifts, as they are honestly beautiful without comparison.
Definitely worth a visit, if not to eat something, to just look around and see it all!

This place smells amazing. Price is high for their desserts. French macaroons were just okay, not great.
Cakes and truffles are delicious. Love the green tea truffles and mango passion truffle. Will come back and try all their truffles.

Biggest landmark on Main street Unionville where you can find all the sweets! You can’t miss it and it’s a definitely worth a visit if you’re strolling around Main street!
In the warmer weathers especially summer time, the place is always crowded. People lining up to grab ice cream after dinner, kids strolling through the back of the store to find sweets, and the even have a counter just for chocolates, macaroons, cupcakes and baked goods.
I always come here for ice cream at night during the summer times. It makes me feel like a kid in a candy store every time I’m in here. The amount of goodies in this store makes me want it all. They’re selection on ice cream is wide and they’ve been adding more and more every time I’m back.
They have just regular ice cream with your choice of regular cone, cup, waffle cone, chocolate waffle cone and waffle bowl. You can choose the amount of scoops you want and each scoop can be a different flavor. There are at least 16 different flavors to choose from, moose tracks, chocolate mine, cotton candy, salty caramel, chocolate chip cookie dough, just to name a few.
They also offer soft serve ice cream in 3 different flavors, vanilla, chocolate and mixed. You can also get it dipped in different flavors like chocolate, caramel, green apple and lots more.
If you’re a fan of dipping dots, they also serve that too! You can order whichever flavor ice cream you want in a cup and top it off with your favorite dipping dots flavor!
They also serve ice cream cookies which are huge, 2 cookies of your choice with a huge scoop of ice cream in the middle.
I’ve only had ice cream whenever I visit the old firehall and I find that their ice cream is pretty good, every time I leave very satisfied! It’s the best place you can find around that area! Would definitely be coming back for ice cream if I’m in the area!

Been coming here for years both during summer (for ice cream, duh) and during the winter to purchase obscenely large orders of cupcakes for work purposes.
Had the macarons here. they weren’t very impressive, a bit hard, not a big variety of flavours and tasted just okay. Ice cream is good but nothing that stands out in my mind from the other confectionaries I’ve been to; however, lots of flavour selections here though! Cupcakes are delicious and comparable to Prairie GIrls. Had just about all the different flavours of cupckaes here over the years, and none of them disappointed. Looks beautiful and each cupcake is ginormous. The flavours are strawberry, chocolate, red velvet, OREO and vanilla in the assorted boxes that we got. I’m not a huge fan of icing in general but I love the cake part — so decadent and buttery and makes me go to dessert heaven.
Nice to sit outside on a breezy summer day as well, gem in Mainstreet Unionville.

Nothing like a stroll with your family/​friends down Main Street on a summer’s night with a cone of Ice Cream from Old Firehall Confectionary in your hand. This place will have a line up on Summery days and nights.
Love the flavours, I know their not home made instore, but that’s not the point. Good Quality Ice cream. Great cones, I believe they make their waffle cones on site.
Their pastries vary from little cakes, cupcakes etc. They have some truffles/​chocolates, turkish delight etc.
The staff has always been polite on the various times I have been there throughout the years. It’s a staple.
Save room for ice cream if you eat elsewhere on Main Street. It’s worth it.
