Broasted Chicken and Deep Fried Pickles! Need I say more. We have been introduced to this place and love it! We have eaten in and done take out. Always amazing and so good.

Stopped by on a Saturday at noon and ordered the halibut and chips. Hands down the worst fish and chips I have had. The fish and fries were not crispy at all. The only decent thing was the homemade tartar sauce which I believe any real fish and chips place should have. The greasyness of the meal left my throat feeling sore after. Truly disappointing.

The sign for Broasted Chicken was all I need to make a small detour during yesterday’s country drive. I had been introduced to Broasted Chicken as cooked by the much lamented and no longer in existence«Pudgy’s» of Pembroke Pines FL. I had renewed my acquaintance with this dish a number of times in Wisconsin, where it is a big deal. But in the last 6 years… nada. Then I came upon the sign. This is an old family owned restaurant founded in 1977, where the second generation has taken over. It is run by a Culinary School grad, but is still making ‘home-made’ style food including the aforementioned chicken. Broasted chicken is skinless on-the-bone pieces which are breaded and then put in a patented pressure fryer. They develop a skin that is crispy while retaining a delicious interior. It is not a franchise, but restaurants who owned a broaster then buy the breading mix from the machine manufacturer thereby being ‘licenced’. It is a simple program. I ordered the 4 piece platter with fries and coleslaw, and my wife ordered a club sandwich. The 4 pieces were: whole wing, thigh, upper thigh, and breast(pretty standard). The pieces were juicy, delicious and the breading was awesome. Judy really enjoyed her club sandwich which had a copious serving of nice whole breast meat, and a nice amount of bacon. The fries were crisp, home cut, and delicious. In a conversation with the owner, he said that his Broaster rep had told him there was a restaurant in Scarborough that also had a broaster… I will be investigating that shortly. This was a great casual meal, in a great little town, in a great little place, with a great little menu. Do not miss it when in the area.
