Taylor always does a great cut and the hand and head massages are a nice treat. It is pricey though.

I love love love Hailey! She is so detail oriented and just gets my fine limp hair. She has successfully cut my hair on a few occasions now and it’s always exactly how I like it. I also usually hate having my hair styled by the stylist at the end of the cut because they straighten my hair to the point where it looks like a thin black sheet draping my now abnormally large looking head, BUT NOT HAILEY! She will make it look natural with a bit of extra body or even some wave (a miracle in my hair). She’s great, I don’t even want to post this because I don’t want to share, but looking at my overall reviews I realize I mostly use this site for negative reviews and should probably spread some love.

I was traveling through the Pacific Northwest last week and left my beloved Aveda travel-​size face wash in a Seattle hotel room. I was devastated when I got to Vancouver and realized it was missing, but fortunately I found Aveda Tonic just down the road from my hotel. They didn’t have the travel size bottle of what I needed for sale, but the woman working behind the counter was more than happy to make me a sample size to get me through the rest of my trip (and then some)!
I can’t speak for the salon, but this was some of the best customer service I’ve ever received… and I wasn’t even a paying customer.

A friend if mine recommended this salon and I’m very glad I went. The service was so friendly and helpful – the front desk and the hair stylist. I first went into the Salon on a Sunday and the girl at the counter listened to my concerns and recommended some products. I will also add she was friendly and helpful but not pushy. I then made an appointment for my hair with Ashley. I thought she did an amazing job. She cut styled and highlighted my hair. She listened to what I wanted and made suggestions. She also showed me how to style my hair when at home. As an added perk I received a great hand message and some little makeup applied afterwards. Great job. Thank you Ashley :). I love my new Hair!

I’ve had several friends recommend this salon and was not disappointed! I am a curly haired ginger, but wear my hair both curly and straight. So figuring out a cut that works for both has been tricky. Brodi is a total gem, and gave me a brilliant cut. The salon was very clean and inviting, and all the staff was so friendly and welcoming! Very happy with my experience at tonic!

My review for Aveda Tonic only relates to the retail portion of the store as I have not come here for services. Like most Aveda «lifestyle salons» the store is devoted exclusively to Aveda products. There’s a nice, large area in the back for services, which seem to mainly focus on hair (cuts, color, perms and treatments). While the Aveda corporate site lists this location as providing «signature spa services» it doesn’t seem like the offer facials or massages, only listing waxing and makeup application on their services menu. Here are some comments:
Good — easy to access location near Broadway & Granville, big and bright layout, very friendly staff, knowledgeable staff, full selection of Aveda hair, body and makeup products

I scheduled an appointment with AVEDA and was specific in needing someone who is experienced as my hair is difficult (has a mind of its own). They placed me with someone and then called to change it to someone with more experience (Vanessa) but it was not meant to be as she was sick on my consultation day… BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO MY HAIR! I ended up with Brodi who is more experienced and has the best personality of the bunch :)
When you arrive they carry your purse for you, get you changed into a robe, offer you magazines and a tea (or coffee or water). It was so welcoming. They even give you hand massages while you wait for your stylist or wait for chemicals to sit etc.
I went on June 12^th for a perm which sadly did not take, so I called and spoke with head office and then got a return call from the owner of the salon itself… They brought me back the following day to re-​curl the top section of my hair that didn’t take to the curling. Received the same level of service and nobody made me feel awkward for returning to have it «fixed». The owner was even there and came over to make sure I was happy and everything was working out… Not to mention Brodi came in 1 hour prior to her shift to accommodate my schedule.
After the second appointment the curls stayed in and looked amazing but after sleeping on them not so much… That being said my hair is VERY DIFFICULT AND RESISTENT to almost anything and everything… so this was more or less expected to
the end of the day, if they couldn’t get my hair to cooperate then I doubt that anyone else could.
The effort, care and, attention I received from Brodi is second to none

I am extremely happy to belong to the Aveda Tonic on Granville. They’ve always taken such great care of my hair, and suggested the best styling products and solutions for my hair. I also seem to go in greasy and come out looking fabulous. They’ve got an amazing teaching school, which reflects in their amazing students. Brodi is so talented, she even styled my hair into a beautiful christmas bow for my staff party in december. We snapped a photo and uploaded it to INSTAGRAM, instantly.
This salon isn’t going to a secret forever, so be sure to get in on this!

I am one of those people who scours Unilocal and rarely writes a review however after a recent visit to the Aveda Ego Salon on Granville Street I HAVE TO post a comment. Yes it has been just over a week since my visit and I am thrilled with the direction one of the Senior Colourists/​Stylists, Jody is taking my hair. He listened to my hair concerns/​worries etc. and came up with a plan and I could not be happier. It was the first time in ages that I walked out of a hair salon feeling like I was walking on air, thanks so much Jody!

So I’m from out of town, but am in Vancouver for the whole summer. For some reason I thought I could go three months without getting my hair cut, but that was not the case.
I chose Ego because it’s very close to where I am living and also because of its generally great Unilocal reviews.
I can say now that I wish I lived here all the time so I could come here for every cut!
When I got to the salon the very friendly receptionist gave me a tour, and then a drink while I waited. I hardly waited at all, and everyone there was so friendly.
Tia was my stylist and she was GREAT. I got an amazing scalp and neck massage as well as the best cut and style I’ve had in a LONG time. Plus, a makeup touchup at the end. All for $ 45, which is less than my stylist at home charges, for a lot more service and a much nicer cut.
When I was leaving, they also gave me a $ 25 gift certificate for next time because I was a first-​time customer, so I’ll be going back again before I return home.
Absolutely would recommend Ego to anyone looking for a great look and excellent experience.

I procrastinated for months before I tried to find a hair salon. I decided to try the Ego Aveda Lifestyle Salon on Granville Street. In my experience, Aveda salons are always wonderful, and Ego was no exception.
I booked my appointment with Angeline, an intermediate level stylist. Since I was a new client, the receptionist asked me to arrive for my appointment 15 minutes early. When I got there, I filled out a form with my contact information and my «hair history», including when I got a haircut last. Once I filled that out, I was given a tour of the salon and offered tea.
Angeline was an awesome stylist. She was really friendly, and listened to all of my requests (layering, keep enough length so I can still wear my hair in a ponytail). She started off the appointment by giving me a head and shoulder massage. The massage was cool because she let me choose what scent of massage oil I wanted her to use. She then washed my hair, cut, and styled it. Overall, my haircut cost $ 55, which is pretty reasonable for an Aveda salon. After the appointment, I was given a $ 25 gift card to use for future appointments, which is handy because I will definitely be back!
The best thing about my appointment was the Aveda Smooth Infusions Style Prep Smoother Angeline introduced me too. I have ridiculously thick hair that takes forever to dry without a blowdryer. With this smoother, my hair was perfectly dry in under 5 minutes with blowdrying! I bought a bottle, and was able to get the same results at home. If you have thick hair, try this style prep smoother!
Overall, I highly recommend this salon. If you’re in the area, check it out!

Nice Salon, just pricey is all. For a mens’ hair cut, not quite worth $ 55 (before tax)

This salon is all hype and no talent! I’ve been there a couple of times. The first Time I saw Jody for highlights and a trim. You couldn’t even tell I had highlights and it cost close to $ 200.00. The trim was ok and he seemed like a nice guy but I told him that I HATE my hair to be styled flat and like it to have a bit of body so he spent what seemed like forever blow drying my hair straight and then flat ironing it and then slicking it down with product. It was hideous and exactly what I told him I didn’t like. I had to go home and wash it. What a waste of his time and mine…
I thought I’d give this place a second chance since i really love Aveda products. When I booked my appointment I told the receptionist I wasn’t happy with Jody and she told me I had to see Julie or Julia (can’t remember). She said that Julia was a real pro with colour. I gave it a chance and while the highlights turned our really well I had the worst haircut I’ve had in my life! I went to another salon afterwards to try and get the mess fixed and the stylist was appalled. She simply couldn’t believe what was done to me. I told Julia I’m trying to grow my hair out. It was long layers and for some reason she cut a massive chunk out of the back of my head. She cut the hair to about 2 inches long. The rest of my hair was down to my shoulders. She said she was taking the bulk out. It’s almost a year later and my stylist that I see now can’t believe it. I’ve been told it looks like i got my hair caught in a lawnmower. Not to mention one side was more than 1 cm longer than the other. How can people like this get away with doing this is a so call high end salon? She needs to realize that when she does this to someone it is us that has to live with your mess for a long time afterwards, in my case it’s been a year and I’m still trying to recover my hair from this. When I contacted the salon they refused to respond to me.

This is a great salon! I’ve had a great initial experience there and since I have been there again and have another appointment waiting for me. You walk in and you’re treated very nicely… cup of tea, scalp massage with essential oils, and pampering in general. My stylist, Sarah, is fantastic and really listens to you & what you want. She asked me about the products I use, my lifestyle, etc. in order to figure out the best cut for me. She also taught me the best way to blowdry my hair and style my sideswept fringe. She massaged my scalp and shoulders and gave me a cut that I really like. Once we were finished, she applied a makeup touch up. By the time I left the salon, I felt relaxed and looked awesome.
Since this is an Aveda salon, they use Aveda products, which are really nice!

I LOVE MY HAIR. It’s long and luscious and the colour is absolutely fantastic!
Between 2000 and 2006, I continually searched for a way to colour my hair and let it grow very long. I thought I’d never succeed because I visited all the so-​called best salons in Vancouver and always left these places significantly disappointed because I could never get away from short, burned hair…
BUT NOT NOW!!! Since I found Ego on Granville in 2007, I’m a regular and I now have great hair! It’s long, the colour is perfect, and I just LOVE it.
I feel so fortunate to have found Gretchen, a colour artist and very fussy about perfection — and fun-​loving and talented stylist Taylor. Together they have produced a masterpiece that I get to play with each and every day!

I’ve been coming here for about 4 years now and I always look forward to coming back. All the stylists are great and everyone is so friendly. Absolutely love the scalp massage with essential oils (you get to pick your favourite), love the aveda products, delicious tea, and my hair always looks fabulous. I always leave feeling wonderfully pampered and recommend this place to all of my friends many of whom are regulars now too.

Decently priced hair cuts, wonderful staff, and great perks (coffee, tea, hand massages, deep conditioning treatments).
I started going here with the recommendation of a roommate a few years ago, and I can’t imagine going anywhere else!

I really like the atmosphere here, it feels like you are among a bunch of friends who happen to be ninja stylists. Or maybe it is like Cheers, where everyone knows your name!
Whatever… I love it here.

If you truly love a pampering — this is the place to be. But wait, it’s not a spa, it’s a salon. Don’t be fooled thinking you’re just chopping off some locks. Ego’s different.
You get little extra specials when you get your hair coiffed here. Hand massages, scalp massages (with essential oils, at your stylist chair) and even makeup touch ups before you go.
All of stylists have been trained at the Aveda Academy, which is like having a Master’s degree in hair.
I have been going to Taylor for over 3 years now — I get more compliments on my hair in one day than I used to in the year before I started seeing him.
I’ve recommended Jeanine to my blond-​i-​locks friends who can’t get over how well their blondes turn out.
