Came here for a family members birthday dinner. The food was delicious, the service was BEYOND5 stars. Servers and manager know exactly what they are doing. I love how there is someone playing the piano and singing and how cozy this gem is! Will DEF be back!

I’ve been to this place twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast and I must say it is an absolutely amazing place to eat, everything from the food quality, to the presentation, to the friendly staff, to the décor of this place is absolutely immaculate and worthy of 5 stars. It is very pricey but completely worth it for what you experience.

Great place. Very charming room. I am told they have to be very exact in pouring drinks. Only downside. Stingy pours by other countries standards. Food excellent, great staff, ambiance. We are guests at the hotel. A truly wonderful place to stay. Exceptional staff.

The place has a great location and good drinks and FANTASTIC service! The food was just okay. I would go here to have a few drinks with friends or for business meeting. I did love their desert!

Beautiful space with glowing fires in the fireplace and a great server named Wendy that made all the right recommendations I just don’t understand why they chop fresh fruit up to the size of an old can of DelMonte fruit cocktail. A little too much hotel style catering for me. But the service and atmosphere are top notch

This was a delightful experience. We sat down and were offered a table by the fireplace. However, we were only allowed to sit at the table for precisely 55 mins, as our table was reserved. No big deal. So we sat down, and were offered the brunch menu which had approximately 9 items. 6 which contained eggs. Now I have an egg allergy, so I inquired about a lunch or dinner menu that may have more options. However I was told that they don’t have any other menu, but that there were«lots» of items without eggs. Three to be exact. Fine. I ordered the Cobb salad without the egg(as recommended by the waitress). Fast forward 15 mins. Cobb salad tastes like something my 5 year old niece could make. Leaf lettuce, blue cheese dressing and boiled chicken. Oh wait… lest I forget the two tiny pieces of bacon. I’m not sure why they brought out the bacon. Those pieces were an insult to pigs everywhere. When I complained. I was offered another«egg free» dish. Duck confit, with duck egg. I obliged. Thinking I’ll scrape off the egg. Fast forward 25 mins. Time: 5 mins left at our table. The waitress comes out and says, word for word«we have duck confit at the restaurant, just not for this table. Would you like something else? Something quick and to go? Perhaps our eggs benny which are really good?» Really lady? Eggs Benny after I told you I couldn’t eat eggs??? And you offer me something to go? Conclusion: service was terrible. Food mediocre. Tip non existent. Never again.

I really liked my experience here. Me and a friend went for high tea. The ambiance is very old school elegant… if that makes sense. The crowd here is older too. We were seated by the fire place, which was nice. The table was beautifully presented. The service was great. We were seated on time, the hostess checked our coats and the waiter was amazing. They also had other employees coming around to add hot water to our tea(french press). The desserts were pretty good, though I dislike fruit cake. The savory sandwiches were half good(salmon roll, cucumber sandwich, and egg sandwich) while others weren’t(shrimp sandwich and chicken sandwich) I think some of the hostesses glare too much. I don’t know if they’re watching the service but they need to be more descrete.

Excellent food, excellent service and ambiance. I ordered an appetizer, entrée and desert for myself and I happily scraped my plates clean! I was so full but couldn’t stop eating. I will definitely come back. I also love the live piano player — a nice touch!

Bachhus Restaurant & Lounge at the Wedgewood Hotel has been one of those classic restaurants which I’ve always want to try. Bacchus is located across from Court House. We saw the Dine Out Vancouver 2015 menu and it looked promising with wild boar and pistachio terrine and confit duck leg. Wild Boar and Pistachio Terrine Ballantine, Soused Vegetables. We are big fans of terrines that is borderline mad(see here, here, here, and here). This wild boar terrine had a nice texture albeit under seasoned. The pistachio was a nice touch to add bite. Parsnip and Vanilla Soup with Compressed Apple. This soup had an earthy but tart flavor. Personally I was not a fan because the flavors were too sharp and contrasted each other. Steelhead Trout: A nice perfectly cooked trout with crispy skin. Olive oil crushed fingerling potatoes, chard, orange caper dressing. Unfortunately, our fish was not completely deboned. This was not something we expected from a restaurant like Bacchus. Confit Duck Leg: A juicy duck leg served with white bean cassoulet and watercress. Bland and under season. This seems to be the going theme for tonight. A few dashes of salt would do wonders throughout this service. Seasonal Fruit Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream. This was the best dish of the night. Something so simple to make was on point. Hazelnut Profiterole: A light and airy choux a la crème pastry ball filled with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and honeycomb. The service at Bacchus Restaurant was seamless and very traditional. I simply wished the food itself was more colorful and seasoned. I just wished I had read more reviews before committing to this restaurant.

The one thing that stood out the most about this restaurant was the atmosphere — it has a wonderful elegant historical décor and feel. A pianist plays beautiful music the entire evening, and it was very enjoyable. It’s perfect for a romantic evening. They say that Dine Out Vancouver isn’t the best representation of a restaurant, and seeing that I didn’t find their dishes that spectacular, I’d like to try their regular menu. My trout was quite fishy and everything was pretty ordinary. The service, however, was very nice.

I came here to taste the dine out menu with my girlfriend. Tragedy. The starters, salad is bad but edible. The soup is the worst liquid I’ve ever had in my life. My girlfriend agrees. I changed the soup to the wild boar terrain, which tasted like some meat vomited by others. Four diamonds really? Four diamonds out of 100 diamonds

This is purely a review on a place to sit around and drink, as this was the scenario, finding a place to sit around after a dinner at another place, one of the party members advised we go here to listen to live music… and drink some more. Well it was a Thursday night and when we arrived, there seemed to be no live music, but since we already parked the cars and entered the door, we may as well start ordering the drinks. When you come in here, the first feeling you get is that this is a more classic style, an ‘old boys club’ type place. The dim lit dining area is what you are presented with, classical tables and chairs, a dominance of dark wood finish, dark carpet, something you would find where a bunch of stock traders after a long day of peddling with other peoples money would be around a table having at least a bottle of wine. Just remember Bacchus is the Greek god of wine… and his oil paintings are up on the walls if you even care to look. I was actually disappointed at their wine list, one page, isn’t your name Bacchus??? But just playing on that alone, this place has it’s charms anywhere you sit. In the warmer months the doors are open to let in the air from Hornby Street. We ended up ordering two bottles of Syrah, not at once, and a plate of BC Cheese and charcuterie platter, with a bottle of San Pellegrino sparkling water to wash down the vino. The place was pretty dead on this night, the service was on par with any high end establishment. The wine glasses were never empty, our server came across many times to check on us, it was good. I rate everything a 3.5, nothing wows, and nothing really needs to, they do it right… right on par with the old style of things. I wished the washroom was closer, as it is quite a journey to get here, down the hall, down the stairs… and because of the dark and romantic. or non romantic mood depending on how you feel this place can tire you out. I wish there was just more. more selection in wine’s and other things. It is classy in here, and it keeps that if you are looking for a more seasoned environment, just wish there was live music when I came… until next time then!

I came here for their Valentine’s Day set menu in 2014 with wine pairing and it was very lovely. I enjoyed their melt-in-your-mouth sea bass and delish dessert platter. The second time I came back to try their dinner, which wasn’t as impressive as their set menu I had before. But the overall food quality and dinning atmosphere were still above average.

Taking my team to Bacchus for an extended lunch before the holidays is an annual tradition that I will discontinue next year. Most entrees and the desserts were excellent, however, my team did not deserve the following service lapses we experienced yesterday: — 4 lukewarm plates of beef brisket — waitress that did not do anything to make this right aside from«notifying the kitchen» — getting one of the dessert orders wrong — delivering drinks to the wrong people — serving lukewarm coffee — serving the bowls of nuts after desserts and coffees were finished and we were ready to pay the bill and leave — leaving the bill payer alone with the credit card machine to remove his own receipts — no manager checking in with our table during or after the meal to see that everything went well None of the above is what one would expect from a restaurant awarded 4 diamonds. We already plan on celebrating somewhere else next year.

Would avoid for brunch. We don’t mind paying for quality, but the $ 79 bill(with tip) was not the most difficult to swallow. The waiter was superb and the ambience was exquisite. But… For starters, the menu on their website was outdated and since my wife has Celiac, the one item she wanted was no longer on the new menu.(Come on, update this people!) They were accommodating, and tried to provide a substitute. But the food she got was not up to standards. Scrambled eggs were slimy and undercooked, the bacon had a unique unpleasant cure and the pork sausage links were water logged. Her«fresh squeezed» grapefruit juice was not really«Fresh Squeezed» in the kitchen. We’ve found this the case in several restaurants. They BUY it labelled«fresh squeezed» BUT it’s not! My eggs Benny had hard yolks and the ham they used was essentially from a pre-spiced«deli» roll. Nothing special enough to justify $ 18 for this dish either. We understand the cost of doing business in downtown Vancouver, but we also recognize when you are being served * food at **** prices. Avoid! M&K

As far as bars go in Vancouver, there are many to choose from. When choosing, make sure to put Bacchus at the top of that list. It’s swank and plush with overstuffed chairs and dark wood. The paintings on the walls are ancient with an odd flair to them — nuns, soldiers and many other people-related artwork. Overall, the feel is that of a historic smoking lounge without the health hazard. The bar greets you as you wander in from the street, a curved wooden beauty with a limited number of chairs, but oozing with elegance. Our bartender, Stacey, was friendly, professional and creative beyond what you would normally find behind a bar. His skill with concocting unique drinks tailored to your taste was as artisan as the funky wall hangings. A good representation of this magic craft is the Moscow Mule-esque drink borne from a dissatisfaction with the sweetness of Ginger Ale and the lack of a well-balanced ginger beer that could satisfy Stacey’s particular demand for perfection. Instead, he found heaven in a glass of muddled fresh ginger, a splash of lime and a generous pour of vodka topped off with ice. Fresh, delicious and satisfying. We only had drinks because we were off to a dinner, but if the bar speaks to the quality of the food, Bacchus will satisfy the hungry traveler as well as the thirsty one.

Lounge area was great, with live piano music on a Saturday night. Desserts were excellent, ambiance was classy, romantic, and intimate. Tea and coffee were great.

Great place to stop in for a late night drink. We showed up around 10 on a Sunday for a cocktail and a desert, and were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is dark and cozy, lots of leather and dark wood, a fireplace, and live piano music at just the right volume to still be able to have a conversation without raising your voice. Cocktails were delicious as was the crème brûlée!

What a fantastic place! If you’re looking for old school sort of regal or a nice fancy date night, this spot is great. I love that it’s tucked away downtown inside the Wedgewood Hotel so it’s not super busy, and they make you feel like a million bucks while you’re in there. I’ve been here before for a few after work drinks, but recently I went there for a dine out dinner with a large group. The coordinator I worked with made sure we had everything we needed, she got us the private room that was a great space for us(seats 14 comfortably, but any more than that I think it might start being a bit squishy). The service was amazing, we were well taken care of, and even when I caused a bunch of confusion with the bill at the end of the night our server took care of it without issue and all with an apology(even though I swear it wasn’t his fault) — he was SO nice. The food was delicious! Portions on the main were a bit small, but the set menu for dine out this year was fantastic and for $ 38 it was definitely well worth it. The starter(chicken liver pâté) was amazing. The texture was very smooth, and the portion was very generous — they also gave us extra bread for our pâté! The main(duck confit) was well textured though the skin on mine was a little hard in some places and really sticky in others. The lentils were cooked perfectly, and the sauce complimented well. My dessert(chocolate crème brûlée) was very nice as well, though nothing amazing. I appreciate that the chocolate crème was very rich and that it wasn’t very sweet. We also ordered some fries to share around the table, and they were really good.(almost up there with Blue Water!) The other food options they had on their menu looked really good as well, so it was a difficult choice(the woodland mushroom soup and the salmon both looked really good!). Really a fantastic option for a nice dinner out with coworkers or for a date. Their cocktails are quite good as well, and the main lounge /dining area is certainly a good place to stop by for drinks after work! I highly recommend you consider it for your next(small) formal function! Easily accessible by Burrard or Granville stations, or pretty much all transit since it’s downtown.
