Barking Babies

The environment and staff at Barking Babies is very nice and courteous. It certainly is a nice store but I’m concerned about some of the products they sell.
I usually like getting my dog food he can chew on as he seems to enjoy it the most too. I went to Barking Babies and got him a few mini donuts and a beef stick. While he did enjoy the beef stick he ending up barfing a few hours after and another time the subsequent day. I didn’t feed him the donuts until the next day just to make sure that it’s the beef stick. He loved the donuts and had no problems with it but I found the frosting on the donut to be too sweet for a dog. I don’t not like to feed my dog food that is too flavorful as they learn to start picking their food. With my last dog she just ended up refusing to eat dog food completely and we had to make actual dinners for her which is a huge expense.
The store and baked goods are nice but I would not feed my dog food from there again for the reasons above. It’s a great store but I feel like they spoil the puppies to much.

Love this place, their staffs are very friendly and my dog usually takes shower there. He always smells nice, his nails are smooth after cut and the staff dressed him up with a star war scarf once when we picked him up.

My girlfriend loves this place for our Yaletown Frenchie. She lets him loose in here and he loves it. He also gets a toy and treats because he’s a spoiled brat:)

I was visiting Vancouver last week, when I walked by this store. I work with dogs and other animals, so naturally I decided to enter. Mind blown. Even in my Dog-​crazy city I have yet to find a pet boutique with such a vast/​crazy/​funny assortment of clothes as Barking babies has. My dog Scout doesn’t wear clothes because she does so much running, hiking and rolling in things. But the Pearl white peacoat dress I noticed on a rack was screaming Princess Tikis (my bosses dog) name. I knew I had to buy it– as long as I could be sure it would fit her. Tikis a 9/​10lb Chihuahua mix with a deep chest. The staff were knowledgable about breed size, proportions and measurements. I was already getting a great exchange rate coming from the US, so I took a chance and bought it. And sure enough when I returned home and brought it to work, it fit Princess Tiki and she looked like Royalty in it. I’ll be sure to stop on by and buy something when I’m in Vancouver again next summer.

We found Barking Babies when we were looking for puppy classes for the new addition to our family. Luckily Barking Babies is just around the corner from our apartment and we signed our puppy up for classes with Saffrina. We all look forward to going to class and it also serves as a little window shopping opportunity for me too. They always have such cute merch and I always want to buy everything in the store. Will definitely be making daily stops to see what awesome sweaters I can put my little one in. :-P

Me and my fur kids love it here. They have the cutest stuff for small dogs. Selection sucks for bigger dogs though :(prices can be high for some of the stuff but it’s puppy couture what can you expect! :P
I also had one of my little chis teeth cleaned here with the no anaesthetic and they did an amazing job! His teeth were very bad and they came out white. I was surprised they could do such a good cleaning without putting him under. The price is also great compared to dental work in pet clinics.
There’s always lots of little cuties playing and trying on clothes when we come in, it’s fun for everyone :)

Since my review two years ago staffing had changed! I love this store more then I did before.
Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The owner is warm, kind and very knowledgeable. They make and effort to remember all dogs names who come in. They make their customers and return customers feel very welcome.
They have beautiful products and fair prices. They also have things for the big dogs! Which is nice because I was two little and one big.
All in all I keep coming back! I actually don’t shop anywhere else! I’d feel like I was cheating on Barking Babies.

they have been very nice to me and my small dog. they fit him in when he needs to get a trim and they clipped his nails for free. they also had a tux for him when he needed to go to a wedding. thanks for taking care of my tiny monster.

Me & my dog Joker absolutely love Barking Babies! They only carry highest quality stuff & their price are very reasonable too! Customer service is top notch! They are truly dog lovers. Very helpful in recommending styles & sizes of the outfits and extremely patience. They treat Joker like a princess and VIP all the time although we do not buy a lot there! Loves all the doggie pawties that they organize few times a year. Joker, my yorkie never plays with any dogs at the park but for some reasons, she seems enjoying very much in those pawties, so I always try my best to make time to bring her there. They have been in business for 10 years and there must be reasons for that! Proud of you, Nancy (the owner)!

I have a shaggy Maltese cross who I have taken there multiple times for grooming, treats and toys and have only ever had an amazing experience in-​store.
Initially I was concerned that as I do not look like your typical yaletown dog mom that I would get a pretty-​woman style experience, instead I had fantastic customer service and was shown all the cool things in-​store that my more «alternative» tastes would like.
The grooming has always been a fantastic as well. Kita who is 8 and socialized-​though-​not-​social never seems frazzled, or stressed when I pick her up. Not to mention she looks great and as most folks with long haired dogs know that can be quite the task.
It is nice to come in and have the staff not only know me but my dog by name, and feel like the experience is genuine. I’m sure as long as I live in Vancouver I’ll be shopping at Barking Babies.

Updated to 5 stars. I was privileged enough to be able to attend Barking Babies’ Halloween event which was amazing, I really like how they host parties and put effort into the events they host. They are always very well stoked on inventory too, and customer service has become better than ever.

I’ve taken my dog here twice this year for routine nail trimming.
First Visit:
— Nails not short enough, 1−2mm taken off and some nails neglected altogether.
— Dog was held by one staff member and trimmed by another in the retail space, not the back room
— $ 11.20
Second Visit:
— Trimmed in retail space again (by same staff member as first visit)
— I made sure nails were trimmed shorter this time
— A few bleeders, one was quite bad
— I… ME…I had to hold onto my own dog while staff trimmed!
— $ 12.60
Both times, my dog panicked and underwent trauma. I did vocalize my disapproval and hinted that they may need to address their methods because they certainly weren’t good. Upon apologizing, staff suggested I take my dog elsewhere instead of re-​evaluating their practice. Okay, I will.
What dog really enjoys having their nails done, honestly. Mine prefers to flee. However, she is so happy when I take her to Pawsh — the nails are nice and short, never bleeding, and she is done in under 2 minutes. This is what the experience SHOULD be like. Barking Babies falls very short of being pleasant.

Went in to Barking Babies to get my dog a harness. They were initially friendly and helpful and assisted me in finding what I needed for my 10 pound dog. After using the harness twice over a 3 day period I realized there was a substantial tear where one of the straps met the for the chest; There is no way my dog could have torn or ripped it.
I took it into the store with the receipt and explained to them what I thought had happened. The woman behind the counter stuttered her way through an explanation, basically accusing me of lying and refused to accept a return or exchange.
Instead of creating a loyal customer who frequently dog sits and is getting a dog soon, they embarrassed me in front of other customers and didn’t work with me to resolve my issue.
I will not be returning.

I was here 6 months ago and I wanted to buy the entire store! As a disclaimer, I love to dress my dogs, go out of my way to find boutiques and unique clothing for my dogs all over the country. I still get compliments and stopped all the time when people see the outfits I got at Barking Babies! When I go to other dog stores, they always wanna know where I got it so they can carry the same items! I did not have my doggies with me when I shopped here and the salesperson even offered to exchange the size by mail if necessary.

It has recently come to our attention that Barking Babies owner Nancy who was out of the country at the time our dog was let out from Barking Babies during a routine teeth cleaning is now denying that Lina was hit by a car or hurt in anyway. This is extremely offensive to us as we were first told that all vet bills would be covered and Lina is still dealing with health and behavioural issues tied to this event.
It should be noted that Lina is not a «runner» as Nancy decided to claim, Lina has received consistent grooming from Dog Republic for the past 9 months and had no issues. She does however have problems with agressive dogs, which was articulated to Barking Babies. We did notice that the managers dogs was extremely loud and agressive towards ours which was our point of concern.
Furthermore we spoke to Leah at the Vancouver Community Policing Centre today, the lady who found our dog and she confirmed that Nancy from Barking Babies has made a false statement and no such claims of Lina not being hurt were ever made.
To me it is extremely disappointing that instead of paying for Lina’s injuries and installing a double gate Nancy who was on vacation during the event in question has in turn decided to focus her attention on slander and even documentable libel via Social Media.
Luckily for us we had the wherewithal to document injuries and have made some public here.
It is important to us that the truth be known in this case so that future animals do not receive the same level of negligence leading to injury.
Dog owners love their pets and it is within our rights to make sure that they are receiving the level of care that they deserve, instead of trying to band aid this issue with false claims Barking Babies needs to focus on addressing the security risks in its establishment.

I am the big man with the little dog everyone chuckles at as I walk her down the street in her sweaters and coats and pretty collars. I always thought I would be strictly a big dog guy, but the little ones have a way of truly taking over your heart. This store is for me and my dog, and believe you me, she is a spoiled, spoiled baby girl. Luckily I only ended up buying a cozy, plaid flannel fleece coat this time, but was very impressed with the diversity of sizes, not just S, M, L. Found one that fit her and was also the perfect length to keep her tiny hiney warm as well. There were also all kinds of other dog clothing items, collars, leashes, organic and natural dog treats. For a small store there was quite the selection.

Really cute place to go if you are in Yaletown! There’s so many things to look at from dog outfits, collars, accessories, treats. you name it it’s there!
The owner has a lot of knowledge and the place is clean and always organized!
This place is my favorite place to go for my dog :)

LOVE THIS PLACE! LOVE THE STAFF! Kailey is such an amazing girl. Can’t say I LOVE the prices, but what do expect?! A puppy boutique in Yaletown… You’re asking to spend some money going there.

Friendly staff, great organic/​healthy treats for pets. I bought 2 bone cookies & 2 peanut butter cups and almost salivated when the woman helping me opened the case.
They all seem to really love animals. It’s pricey so I probably wouldn’t make this a regular stop but it’s perfect for a treat or a gift.
I want to buy the puppy pizza next. I can’t wait until the next doggy birthday.

I don’t have a dog but I will certainly return to this business! I was shopping for a carrying bag for my kitten and was very pleased with the service received.
First of all, the store was hopping: about 10 customers, 2 staff members and few dogs; its a small store. Generally when a store seems really busy and I need assistance I will leave and come back or sometimes not come back if I feel ignored… But after a few minutes looking around I could see the selection and level of service I’d receive would be worth the wait.
Secondly, I was relieved that I wasn’t kicked out the door for mentioning I was shopping for a «kitty carrier». The woman who helped my was non-​discriminative and friendly. She showed me all the bells and whistles included in my fancy carrier and I was sold. A demonstration can go a long way in selling something: I was sure I wasn’t willing to pay «that» much for a cat bag but I did! No hesitation.
Thirdly, Although the store was busy and the staff tag-​teamed my purchase in an extremely «efficient» manner, I did not feel rushed or like I was taking up their precious time.
Overall, I’d say this store is busy for a reason, the selection is great, the staff handle pressure well and they are pleasant. Did I mention that the selection was great???
