Bikes For All

I have had such an outstanding experience with Bikes for All. I purchased a bike I absolutely LOVE, at a very reasonable price, and have gone back several times since for this and that. Every time I have received exceptional customer service. I would not rate a business ⁵⁄₅ if I didn’t mean it. Go there!

These people are AWESOME. We needed a couple new bikes and they helped every step of the way with humor and expertise but no pressure. Walked out with 2 excellent bikes and lots of accessories with some pretty nice discounts. Lucas even immediately helped me out after I lost my receipts. This will be my bike shop from now on!

Great group of passionate bike enthusiasts that offer good bikes, good service, good prices and even a slice of pizza and a beer if you arrive at closing on a Friday night. Thanks!

We spent our summer holidays in Vancouver and needed bikes to navigate this great city. We were perfectly willing to buy cheap bikes for the duration of our stay and then resell or donate them, since finding decent longer, non-​day rental bikes had proved difficult in previous years. That seemed ineffective and somewhat wasteful. We then found Bikes 4 All which solved all of our problems. We got great bikes to ride across the city at a very competitive rate. We had no problems with the bikes whatsoever. They got us everywhere we wanted to go. The guys were extremely friendly and seemed to know their stuff. In the future Bikes 4 All will be our go-​to place if we need long-​term bike rentals again. Can’t wait for next summer to roll around.

I asked a simple question and got the LAMEST answer ever.
It appeared they couldn’t be bothered.
If this is how they deal with potential customers, I don’t want to be an actual customer.
It shows a definite lack of ‘quality’ or ‘Customer Service.
I’m going where I’m appreciated.

Forgot to write a follow up review! I ended up having issues with my rear deraileur and I took my bike back to the shop at least twice over the course of last summer and fall. Every time, the staff were great about adjusting it free of charge, and even took the bike out to ride themselves to figure out what was wrong and trouble shoot. No problems since.
I wandered in a month or two ago, and Lucas remembered me and what bike I bought. their prices also continue to be quite reasonable for things like accessories and on the lower end for the same product compared to other shops in the area. Lucas’s purchase recommendations are reasonable as well — doesn’t try to up sell you on something expensive you don’t need

This is the SECOND time I am writing a review for this bike shop since they sneakily had my first one removed. I went into this shop a few months ago to buy a bike. The personnel weren’t really helpful but I pretty much knew what I wanted so that wasn’t my biggest worry. I tried out one of the bikes and since it was a very rainy day said I would come back later and go for a longer ride. The girl said I should put a deposit on it so they don’t sell it and that I can get the deposit back if I come back in less than 48 hours. I went back the day after. A guy helped me — I think the owner. He was very rude and refused to refund my deposit. I had to make a scene to actually get my money back — this is only after the guy took a look around and noticed there were a few people in the shop. I would never ever go back here and I would have given them 0 stars if I could!
Maybe they should spend more time being nice to customers rather than working with Unilocal to have reviews taken down!

The guys here were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Having had some shocking experience’s at other bike stores lately, this was a refreshing change from the rest.
They even threw in a complementary bell of your choice, after purchasing the bike.

I really appreciate Bikes For All. Recently, I got a thorough tune-​up and my bike feels new again. Even though it was never a new bike! Today, I had a flat and I came there just before closing. And they fixed me up right away. I can’t stand being without my bike. I think that the owner, Lucas, knows this and so had one of his mechanics work on my tire as soon as I came in. I really appreciate the service. Even though I would never expect to have my bike serviced right away, I really appreciated that it did happen today. It made my day. Thank you guys!

I brought my bike to the shop last night around 6pm after my front dérailleur started acting up (ie not working); even though they were slammed, they managed to take a look at my bike quite quickly. I totally appreciate that they offered to replace the broken part with a used part rather than forcing me to shell out $$$‘s on a new dérailleur. Plus, they hooked me up with a loaner bike to ride home with so that they could fix my bike today.
Most other bike shops that I have visited in the past usually tell me to come back the next day if it is within 1 – 2 hours of them closing. I appreciated that this place stays open later than most of those shops and clearly is more open to finding ways to accommodate customers.
This is definitely on my list for go-​to bike shops.

Just bought a bike here on the weekend. Lucas and his crew were awesome. Very patient, helpful and not pushy with the sales at all!
Had gone around the neighbourhood to the other bike stores and couldn’t find the same level of service.
Realized I should just go back and buy the bike! So glad I did!!!
My boyfriend was so impressed that we went back 3 days later and he also bought a bike!!!

I got a Groupon tuneup and, like many other reviewers, was disappointed with the customer service. I had the distinct feeling that I was causing them an inconvenience for going to them for service…
When I picked up my bike after the tune-​up I was still having issues with the gears. Their first response was that I just didn’t know how to operate my gears properly… I insisted that they look at it again, after which they begrudgingly found the issue and made the adjustment that fixed it.
Maybe it’s just a dismissive attitude toward Groupon users? If you don’t want to treat Groupon customers the same way you treat others, don’t participate in the program.
I also had the issue where I was quoted one price over the phone for extra parts, and charged a higher price when I went to pay for it.

So I received an email from the owner, Lucas, asking what happened, which I thought was very nice, so I wrote:

It was last year so I don’t remember it clearly but I just read my
diary having written about my feeling after the incident, I decided to

is hard to figure it out.
I remember feeling left out for a while as no one paid attention after
I entered the shop. Also felt embarrassed because the person at the
shop — maybe in his 40 or 50? made fun of my bike pointing and talking
to his coworker in a rude way. If it was a friendly joke, then he
would have included me in the joke but he has not even greeted me nor
offered to help when I was standing and waiting there but he only made
a joke about how my bike wires are purple with his coworker loudly.
I thought it was weird for his age to act like that.
When I took out the voucher, he gave me this attitude like oh it is
another cheap free rider with a voucher, and he was quite blunt.
So those were how I was feeling at the shop and then there was some
miscommunication happened after but I didnt write about the detail so
I don’t remember but it was with the same person.
If he was a young person in his 20 or 30 then I can understand them
for being just immature but I felt offended from his attitude because
he was an older person.

In a way we are all a bit immature, and I apologise that we caused such experience. Our stuff has changed and three people in the front are fun and friendly. Sometimes timing of jokes is not right, what can I say…
we treat every customer with respect, and Paul sometimes jokes with younger crowd a bit to hard and sometimes it doesn’t work. Sorry about that. I wish to correct this if possible and give you a good service if you visit us any time.

So I was very happy with his email and it was nice to know that the shop owner cares about the customers in this way. I have been meaning to actually delete or update the bad review I wrote until I received this comment Lucas wrote on my Unilocal.
First of all, what he wrote on my Unilocal misses out points I made. I did say I do not remember the detail but I still gave him bunch of other detailed story, which he totally did not write here. and now it almost seems like he does not care about what customers saying or feels but only cares about Unilocal STAR numbers.

I think all the other 2 and 1 star comments are quite valid and encourage you all to heed their warnings.
I brought my bike there with a groupon back in February or March or so… My experience with them wasn’t as bad compared to others, but when I brought it in, I was quoted certain prices for extra labour and extra components outside of the groupon deal. I agreed to those prices and estimates. When I went to pick up my bike days or a week later or whenever, my invoice tally came out more than I expected. After paying and leaving, I looked more carefully and noticed that every item was just SLIGHTLY more than originally quoted (ie, 3 feet of cable casing instead of 2 or something like that); which is fine because that happens, but the fact that it wasn’t verbally addressed at all seemed very insincere and left a sour taste in my mouth.
(Again, I think it was only an extra $ 10 or so, and I’m sure that if I brought it up before I paid, it would have been explained… but the fact it wasn’t voluntarily explained made me feel like they were trying to pull a fast one. Fool me once…)

Really make sure you clarify what the costs are; if you’re still planning on taking your bike there.
Bought a Groupon for a single bike tune-​up, they were very friendly indeed and passionate as well about bikes. I brought my biked in for a tune-​up and a flat tire replacement, the mechanic even threw in a handlebar tape for free he said. He was enthusiastic and helpful to my questions and concerns but this is where I should’ve asked as to what is actually «free». I distinctively asked if the handlebar was free, but it was actually the labour fee. What I should’ve done was take a more closer look at the order sheet they gave me; there were two columns of prices, one was for the parts, one for the labour.
Upset at first at how much I got played by them, it really could’ve been avoided if I took a good look before leaving my bike with them.
After claiming it and riding my bike a day after, I noticed my bike felt heavier than usual. Taking a closer inspection, I noticed the chain and gears weren’t even lubed up! Even my gears have been replaced!
You know what really grinds my gears? This place.

I will echo the comments from a few previous reviewers. Be warned. they charge for everything! Even if you buy ~$ 100 of new components and pay for a tune-​up, they will charge an additional labour charge. Labour charge can be SUBSTANTIAL, i.e. even more than the price of the tune up.
For those who do not regularly service their bike, I URGE you to check out a few shops beforehand and not get ripped off…
I brought my gf’s bike here which needed a lot of work. It needed a new front shifter (~$ 25), new skewers (~$ 20), new seatpost (~$ 20), new cables (~$ 4), new breakpads (~$ 5) and new front brakes (~$ 20). I also paid for a ~$ 30 Groupon tuneup.
When I looked at the total bill, they had two columns, the components and a column beside it with installation. I ride a road bike and always buy components online for significantly cheaper (i.e. new cables, cassette, chain, brake pads, etc). MEC, Simon’s Bike Shop and La Bicicletta will install these components that I buy from somewhere else provided I get a tuneup with no additional labour charge…
I mentioned this to them and they looked at me like I was crazy. They wanted to charge as separate installation for the new brakes AND the new brake pads. The total labour was around ~$ 50 on top of $ 30 tune up and ~$ 100 of components.
I said it was too expensive and that I would have to go somewhere else. They offered to give me a 50% discount on cable installation (i.e. $ 12 instead of $ 24). I politely said again that I would have to bring my bike somewhere else at which point, the person help me went to the other guy in the shop and discussed everything for a few minutes. To their credit, they came back and said they would waive ALL the labour and said I was getting a good deal.
I pulled out my wallet. As I did that, the shop person looked back at the other shop person and said something to the effect of, «can you believe this guy, he says that other bike shops don’t charge labour on installation with tune-​ups and claims that La Bicicletta only charges $ 65 for tuneups which include installation». The other shop keeper responded «I know the guys there really well and even if it is only $ 65, its a road bike tune up and all they do is tighten the brake cables». This was a little rude.
I looked on the La Bicicletta website and to their credit, I lied. the tune ups are $ 85 at La Bicicletta (I think they charge $ 65 in the winter) but they EXPLICITLY STATE that cable, brake, chain, brake pad, etc fees are waived.
I said thanks but no thanks and took the bike to MEC. The components were cheaper, the tune up was more expensive $ 45 (no groupon but still reasonable and below the $ 60 normal tuneup price for Bikes for All) and there were no additional labour charges. Note that MEC identified that front shifter didn’t have to be replaced (he would simply fix it for no charge. Bikes for All said they would replace it for $ 25 + Installation Charge)
If you are not familiar with bike maintenance /​tuneups /​etc, please shop around… most bike shops are reasonable, especially if you buy components for them or if you are a regular… if you have to replace a brake pad, chain, cable or cassette as part of a tuneup, most bike shops will waive any labour as part of the tune up and provided you buy the components at their shop as matter of policy. It was a real hassle to get them to agree to waive the labour charges and even when they finally agreed, they were rude.

Had a groupon for the Bike maintenance so I brought it in.
Through a bit of mis-​communication, they replaced my cogs and chain without informing me first.
Was a little upset at first as I don’t have a bunch of extra $$ to throw about, but they admitted to the error and only charged me for the parts.
Bike rides great and feels almost new again.
So all in all a classy place that knows what they are doing. Will recommend for sure…

Fabulous, top-​notch, really good bike shop. Yes, I was impressed! I didn’t realize that a week would not be long enough lead-​time for a fairly routine annual tuneup, and I have organized a group ride for Sunday for more than 20 people, so it was imperative to get it done prior to then, and these guys fit me in yesterday with one-​day service for no extra charge (less, actually, since I had a daily deal).
They explained exactly what was required above and beyond the routine — due to outdoor storage, which I had anticipated. Lucas showed me his diagnoses and gave me the prices for each part, including fees & taxes, which I appreciated a lot.
I just picked up my bike not even 24 hours later, and it’s even been washed & cleaned. Amazing service — I highly recommend this shop; you will not be disappointed. But lesson learned: don’t expect to get in right away during the first sunny week of the year, because that’s exactly when everyone else thinks of getting their bike serviced …

Paul and his crew are awesomeness to the max. Paul really knows bikes. He gave us lots of great tips and advice.
We got our bikes in for their spring tune up special ($ 30 a bike) and so happy to be riding our bikes out in this beautiful warm weather.

So happy with the service I received from the guys (and gal!) here!
My old bike needed some love, and love it got –in spades– from the Bikes For All crew.
What I liked best about this shop was seeing (recognising!!) a mix of vintage frames and state of the art bikes all over the place. Bikes of all types, from all walks of life, were being worked on in a totally no nonsense and professional manner.
Visiting and talking shop, it’s clear the Bikes For All mechanics have been building, repairing and riding the same street and mountain bikes I rode and for just as long. I am totally comfortable coming back here for more bike work.
