Budgies Burritos

I’m not sure how this place gets decent reviews. Bland food, indifferent slow service. There are many other better burrito options in Van. I suggest trying them first.

The burritos taste decent, but honestly the flavors and ingredients are nothing special. They are satisfying when you are really hungry, but that’s mainly due to the volume of the food as opposed to the taste.

I could eat here everyday! Basically all vegetarian and vegan options which are all uniquely tasty. You can get it either as a burrito or a bowl, the bowl comes with tortilla chips. Wish they served horchata but glad they have beers. Parking can be a little tricky in this area but overall worth the trip. Will be back again!

This place is awesome. Tougher location to park at but the food is great and the options for fake meats is perfect!

The place had good value, I’ll give it that. Even though the sizes are misleading (take off 2 inches for both small and large burritos), they’re still filling and a bargain for 6 – 8 bucks.
But the food is bland (like really, really bland…). The burritos are hastily assembled and fall apart. The atmosphere is downright depressing… I wanted to eat my food as quickly as possible, because I just wanted to get out if there. If I had a burrito that could be eaten on the go (ie. Wasn’t open inside the tinfoil, instead of being properly wrapped), I would’ve been on my way sooner.
Budgies is the kind of place to go to if you don’t care what you eat, because you just need something. I guess you get what you pay for, which isn’t much.

Good burritos are almost impossible to find in Vancouver. Well, this burrito was deeeeeliciously great. I only found out about Budgie’s because I saw a woman walking down the street eating one. I asked her where and the first thing she said was it was vegetarian. Then she told me directions. My wife and I easily found it. It is small and, at the time, full of hipsters.
They have a large menu with a wide variety of ingredients. So many, in fact, I just asked the person taking orders for recommendations,. He was friendly and helpful. We waited about five minutes and it was worth it. The tortilla was soft and steamed. The ingredients tasted fresh and combined to just the right gooeyness level with the recommended cabbage offering an excellent balance of crunchiness.
My wife and I are planning on returning soon with Budgie’s being the main reason to visit the area. YUM.

One of my favorite burrito places when I lived in Vancouver. Good selection, $ 9.50 for a burrito the size of two stomachs, delicious salsas! Got to revisit when I was in Vancouver over the weekend, and it was even better than I remembered. Great stuff, people! Go to here!

This is one of those places I’ll only go to if I’m in a rush or need something really quick or am hungry late at night. The burritos aren’t the best, but they are filling and pretty reasonably priced ($ 7 for a small, $ 8 for a large), and most if not all are vegan friendly. Not terribly recommended, but it has its place.

I’m going to be honest. I wasn’t that into checking this place out because I walked by a few times a few years ago and everyone looked all disheveled like they had just come back from Sasquatch festival and hadn’t showered yet. Lately a bunch of my buds that work at Hootsuite moved out to Mt. Pleasant though so I’ve been doing lots partying in the SOMA neighbourhood.
Last weekend after a crazy night out at the Fox with this party girl named Molly ;) I decided to stop by for a late night snack. First off this place rules. The staff were actually really chill and they all dress like Mac Demarco. Not quite my style but I can respect the whole hipster trends in fashion thing. The burritos have random names like johnny-​O, who thinks of this stuff lol! Thats the one I got and it was incredible. I don’t know what they put into those beans but its seriously crazy. My only complaint is the wheres the meat at? Put some triple-​A on the menu and I would give this place 5.5 stars. LOL Unilocal only lets you put 5! Anyhoo my burrito really hit the spot, this is the late night party eat for sure, I’ll be passing on the word.

Quick, casual hipster dig with tasty vegan and vegetarian bites. I particularly like the creativity of the burritos and «meats» and enjoy the red cabbage as an alternative to lettuce. The hot sauce is tasty and the tortilla soup is what I’ll be ordering next. Great value for the portions.
If I could make this place stand out more, I’d add a burrito with grilled veggies (ie. cauliflower, onions, zucchini, carrots) instead of the traditional beans, rice and protein combination– but that’s just my preference.

Budgies Burritos is a colorful and tiny restaurant with only about 10 seats. They serve tacos and burritos, but since they had «burritos» in their name, I went with that. I ordered the «Henry», which had tofurkey, rice, black beans, cheese, sour cream and salsa. At $ 7, it was a steal and filled me up. They’re on the list to revisit from me.

This review is after I’ve eaten at this spot a handful of times. While I’ve always enjoyed the previous times I don’t think I can go back again unless there is food safety precautions taken. I have never had so much hair in one meal before. Unless this was on purpose for whatever reason, the amount of hair I received on my burrito could only be intentional. I think the employees with long hair should be wearing hairnets because this is nasty. I’m sad because did enjoy this place before.

Finally checked this place out. It had been catching my eye for a long time as it looks cute, has relatively cheap options and is apparently really popular. If you’re a fan of Mexican/​tex-​mex food you’ll likely be disappointed. I ordered the Blair Stanley (or whatever) and was either given something else or the chipotle tofu was so bland (and small?) that I couldn’t even tell whether it was there. Overall it’s just bland, bland, bland mush. The vaguest hint of heat despite ordering the hot salsa. Totally disappointing. Budgies: Spend more time on your recipes and less on your décor. I am passionate about burritos. I wish you were too.
Will not be coming back.

Food is alright. but the staff are usually too busy maintaining their art school personas to operate the restaurant. Calling for take out is a waste of time… save yourself the frustration of dealing with the staff.
Sorry Budgies… maybe consider switching to just being a hang out for your staff and selling hand rolled cigs?

So I was amazed to find out this place…
Cuz recently one of my girlfriends moved in the area
with her hubby and her lil crew.
So after the moving we went directly there.
The décor is awesome and unique.
And the staffs is so kind. Smiley and genuine.
I like the fact that you can pick a small or large burritos/​tacos.
Am I an hipster?! Cuz I love their musical (weirdo) choice.

This is an interesting place! Very unique décor and the prices are excellent. You can get a burrito and drink for less than $ 10. I had the 10 inch poser. It was good. I like that they use long grain rice and have black beans as an option. It’s like a local chipotle, without the meat options and commercialism. Overall, it is a good grab and go option.

My previous review was deleted because the owner was upset that his staff are rude. Kind of ironic they have a «Poser» burrito.
A solid never coming back

On the faithful Friday, when I reached the place I found that 3 of my friends were standing outside with unhappy expressions on their faces. Finally one of my friends spelled it out, that they were unhappy as the place smelled of something ‘unusual’. The unusual odor was nothing else but ginger, and the open air kitchen-​counter made sure the smell of the ingredients reached the customers on the ground floor every once in a while. Now if this is a deal breaker for you, as it was for some of my friends, you might as well stop reading.
But, if you are ready to weather some ginger odour to try out a new burrito place, keep reading. :)
Me and my other brave friend ordered the Jamiedog and the Johnny O. Why Jamiedog? Because it consisted a mysterious ingredient called garlic roasted potatoes alongside rice, beans, salsa and it had been recommended by some Unilocalers. Turned out to be really bland though, with beans and rice being the only noticeable flavours. Rating ¹⁄₅.
Why Johnny O? Because it contained the killer combo of guacamole, jalapeños and chipotle! And this delivered on it’s promise, rating ⁴⁄₅.
The portions were generous, and the people at the counter were nice. But, overall, not the best of experiences.

I had been introduced to Budgies some months before but I do not recall what burrito I had. Neither did I have a Unilocal account to review the burrito but all I know is that it was vegan and it did not disappoint.
The same goes for my opinion on tonight’s order of burritos. I ordered the Johnny-​O for my brother and a Henry for myself. I preferred the Henry (possibly due to my obsession with cheese), but I did enjoy the Johnny-​O, too.
I opted not to go for vegan burritos this time but there is always that option for those who want their burritos filled with guacamole as an alternative to dairy products. The burritos are packed full of beans and other flavourful ingredients and they are quite big and filling, about the length of a 7 – 11 medium-​size cup, and this was only the small ($ 7, tax included!).
Another thing I really liked here at Budgies is that they give the customer the option to choose what kind of beans they wanted (black or refried), the «heat» level of the salsa, and whether the customer wanted a white or whole wheat burrito.
Customer service was great, too. I didn’t realise that I didn’t mention that my order was «to-​go» until they were already in the process of cooking it but when I told the cashier that I actually wanted it to-​go, she told the cooks to «change the order to to-​go for Harriette.» They ask for your name after you order and considering the number of people who ordered after me (quite a few, actually), I couldn’t believe that they still remembered mine! Way to make your customers feel special.
Just a heads up, their location is a bit awkward, being on the «island» where Main Street and Kingsway meet, so parking may be a bit of a struggle. It is still easily accessible by walking, though.

Hipster paradise with burritos — cheap & delicious!
I ordered the Blair Stanley with black beans and hot salsa. I enjoyed the tofu in the the burrito. It was flavorful — HOT!!! I have no clue what kind of sauces (green and orange) are provided on the table, but they are worth trying. Overall, the food is cheap and worth every penny. It has a great hip vibe.
My only criticisms are about dining in. The dining area is kind of tight. There is extra seating downstairs in the basement. The trash was overflowing with garbage and flies. I will argue that it adds to the experience.
