Camouflage International Military Surplus & Supplies

Be wary from buying any knives that don’t have prices listed. I made the mistake of buying knives at full price when they were apparently ‘on sale’ (yes I should have googled). Great knives but I could have got a better deal elsewhere.

I came here during a sale and I was pretty stoked to get some good deals on some of their items. The sign outside said 40% off the entire store. I’ve shopped here rarely since I was in high school and I’ve always liked this place. It wasn’t until this time that I got really disrespected by their costumer service. I was trying on some Carhartt gear that I wanted to buy and the sales guy on the floor told me he would give me something like 40% off the pants, plus the store would pay the taxes for me. I thought damn this is a good deal. I know other stores that have a lower base price for Carhartt than here, but with 40% off it came out cheaper than my normal spot. I put the gear on hold and decided to check out some weapons. I wanted to buy a baton as a gift for somebody, and the guy told me it was already on sale so he couldn’t give me the 40% off for it. This was a different guy than the one selling clothes. I believed him at first, and even seen another guy fall into his lies and buy the baton at the price of roughly $ 60.00 He told me the baton’s original price was $ 90.00-$ 100.00. I was happy thinking I’d get a good deal since it seemed like a quality baton. I decided to check the internet, and found out that pretty much every store on the planet was selling the same baton for $ 40.00 — $ 50.00. I told the guy that I knew the baton sold cheaper everywhere, and that he was lying to me about it being on sale. There wasn’t even any sale signs on the baton when I got there. He got super pissed off as I tried to talk him into giving me 40% off the baton. He refused to do it, kept lying and saying it was a $ 100.00 baton. I told him I didn’t want it, if he was going to try to rip me off. He stormed off swearing under his breath, looking embarrassed and angry. I decided to just buy the pants. So I went to buy them, and the women at the cash register refused to honour the deal that the sales member on the floor offered me, she attempted to make me look stupid by saying «Don’t you realize that 40% off is a better deal than us paying the tax?» She kept repeating it attempting to act condescending towards me. I told her to bring the guy over who offered me the deal, and she refused to call him over and just said that she wouldn’t give me the deal. I then tried to get the guy to come over, but he didn’t want to come over either; this was when I thought that maybe he’s out there on the floor offering fake deals to spark customers interest in wanting the item, psychologically making them own it in their mind, then refusing to do the deal after. I thought maybe they all deceive as a team, is that true? It’s unproven but it was the vibe I got from them. It was already 40% off so I decided whatever I’ll buy it, I’m not going to let their pathetic antics stop me from saving some money for myself. I was so unimpressed by the way that these people acted towards me. They thought they could pull the wool over my eyes, but they don’t realize that people are smart and can see through it. Now when I walk by this store I’m never interested in going in anymore, I just get a negative feeling. I know I can find the same stuff in different locations. It’s too bad because I’ve been a customer for like 8 years.

Yesterday was the last time I ever shop at Camouflage.
I stopped in after work last night and was looking for turtle skin gloves that were knife slash and needle resistant. I asked one staff member if they carried them and he didn’t know what that was. However he did tell me that he had kevlar gloves instead and he proceeded to help me find what would work for me. At this point I told him that it was my first pair I was shopping for and that I would be using them for work in the security field and it was imperative they be needle resistant. He assured me that he knew which ones were needle resistant. I tried on a few different pairs. He instructed me that the yellow fabric on the inside was the kevlar lining. Some gloves had the yellow fabric on the inside of the hand, and some had the yellow fabric on both the inside and outside.
I selected a pair that fit snuggly, and asked about the grip on the inside of the hand. He told me it was for being able to use a touch screen with the gloves on. We quickly demoed that feature, and he was wrong. The gloves did not have that feature. This staff member recommended I purchase these, based on my intended professional use. At this point I was beginning to wonder how much he knew about the products in the store, but no harm done, really.
After finding which gloves I’d like to purchase, I then asked what seemed a more senior staff member about the gloves, if he would recommend them for somebody who was working as a security professional and required needle resistant gloves for real world use, the same question I asked the first staff member. He checked them out with his hands, inspected them as the first staff member did, and assured me that they were indeed legitimately needle resistant and even slash resistant. Two employees told me they were needle resistant and that they were slash resistant and that they would be exactly what I needed for real world security professional use.
The following day, today, I found out that my employer had already provided me with the gloves I would require. Great, I guess I’ll go return the gloves I purchased last night since I still have them in the original bag with the receipt and have not even used them once or separated them or removed the tag.
I arrive at the store to be greeted and informed by another staff member that if I wanted to make any returns I would need to speak with the manager which she pointed out as one of the men behind the counter. I approached the manager. I told him why I needed to return the gloves and he said sorry but we only give store credit. I asked why. He said because it was store policy. I asked why that was the store policy. He said it was set that way by the manager. I told him that the staff member told me he was the manager. He denied being the manager.
At this point I concluded that I was dealing with pathetic customer service and a grossly uninformed and/​or deceptive team of staff at Camouflage.
I then asked him about the gloves I had purchased and if they were needle resistant and he pointed out that they were not. I then told him my story about how I asked two staff members the night before if they were needle resistant and that they confirmed that they indeed were. He told me that I should have known they weren’t because it doesn’t say needle resistant on the tag. I explained to him that I was sold products on the basis of wrong information and that surely should be an exception to their no cash refund rule. He swiftly dismissed my statement and told me that I should have known they were not needle resistant.
Shocked and extremely disappointed with the situation, I took a minute of silence and told him that I would consider his offer for store credit. I tried on another pair of gloves and other products basically to kill time as I was in a state of shock at how unfairly I was being treated.
I returned home with my bag containing my receipt for store credit.
If I ever do find an item to use this store credit on, it will surely be the last time I ever visit Camouflage.
To add to that, I will make sure to tell everyone else in the security professional industry about my experience with Camouflage.
EDIT: Yesterday I exchanged my credit for another set of gloves and was graciously helped by Ali. He was very eager to help resolve the situation and make things right. He gave me very good service I would say. However despite the whole experience I would still not recommend this store to anyone looking for something for real world use, especially items that are required for safety of a person or persons.

Lots of neat things to look at, if your into military kind of stuff.
Despite being a military themed store they do have custom print shirts, converse, and seasonal stuff (like halloween costumes)
Prices are I think are about average to expensive depending on what your looking at. I got a pair of goggles for about $ 15 which seemed reasonable but looking at some of their other products like bags, gloves, etc. were a bit much for what they are worth.
Staff members are friendly too.

Im not pleased with my experience, as I write this Im STILL waiting for my order, which I placed 3 weeks ago. the only contact they have attempted is to tell me Items I requested were not available and those were weeks after I placed the order.
I went with this company because they were close, only 8hrs away I figured it would be faster than ordering from other places further away I was WRONG. the items were available elsewhere online including from japan at half the cost but 3 weeks shipping seemed too long to wait sadly if I had ordered from japan Id have gotten my items by now and with free shipping.
their items are NOT military surplus over all they are new knockoffs ironically from japan and china their Facebook page lists many dissatisfied customers, something I did not see until two weeks after I ordered.
Their customer service is not great at all, taking a week or more for them to reply to any question posed, having been in sales I gave them the benefit of the doubt not badgering not complaining simply waiting and waiting and waiting.
I would say they are more interested in being trendy with the counter culture selling shoes and dickies than pleasing the clients who wish to purchase online. I would never have treated any of my clients spending upwards of $ 300 on an order this way and god forbid if I had dropped the ball my employer would have tore me a new one.
considering I have been waiting 3 weeks the very least they could have done would be to keep in touch via Email but even that is beneath them and they have certainly not offered any sort of compensation ie discount or freebie to ease the inconvenience.
I will not be ordering from this company again and would not recommend them to anyone else either. STEER CLEAR of this business and shop at one who appreciates their clients.
UPDATE: ohhh and beware they also operate under the online name of gorilla surplus the difference is the price point you must spend for free shipping $ 99 on one site and $ 149 on the other.

This review is an accumulative since 1998 when I was in my Manson/​Army clothes phase. This used to be the go to place for all real things Army in terms of apparel. I got an Army nurses dress that I wore to prom from here. Since then the store has declined. They still carry army stuff, however, rather than carrying the real thing they’re slowly yearly having fake, fashion and almost douche bag-​esq items. I remember getting good quality army boots from here at one point, now they’re mostly fashion boots that are high quality but impractical other than to look good. I don’t know why they call themselves a surplus store to be honest. I remember coming here a few years ago to get some accessories the first year I did Coachella and found nothing that would be practical for camping needs. The staff know nothing about the products in the store.

The fact that this place is an army surplus store AND it’s on Granville earns it an automatic 3 stars. The reason I’m not ranking it any higher is because other than that, it basically sucks.
This is not a typical army surplus store. No used gear, and high prices on basically everything.
But if you like looking at gear, want to buy something in camo patterns, then this place is worth looking at.
Camouflauge is one of the premier locations for knives in Metro Vancouver. Their prices are insane, but if you show them a competitor (warriors and wonders) has the same product, they will price match. Don’t trust their website because they show many items that are not currently in stock.
Don’t count on asking the staff any questions about knives because they have no clue what they’re talking about. They will just tell you to buy the most expensive knives.

Watch OUT no return policy, and they mark up the price from their website and sell low quality stuff. If you want to get ripped off and hassled for trying to return cheap merchandise this is your place.

As for the «dirty punk kid» comment, Hey man… We cant all shop at American Eagle. Some of us like sewing stuff onto our clothing.
I wouldnt call myself «dirty» either. (Hell, I shower 2 times a day!)
Overall organized and well put together store.
A bit pricey, but worth it in quality.

This store had the furry type of Bob and Doug McKenzie hat I had been looking all over for. I was so pumped I told the clerk I was going to give them 5 stars on Unilocal.Here ya go brother!

Like others have said, this isn’t a surplus shop. You can get all kinds of brand new camouflage gear. But I didn’t see a «used» section.
Decent store, and worth a look.

Not really much of a surplus store at all. More of a paintball (whole section in the store just for that)/police/military fashion type of store. They don’t sell much of the stuff you find in other surplus stores such as camping, fishing, hunting, and outdoor supplies. If you’re looking for camo pants and combat boots, they have a good selection of those for sure.

Other than military pins there seems to be little in the way of actual surplus but there is a good selection of new stuff, rock and metal gear, Chuck Taylors, and big boots. The service is friendly and the prices are decent so if you don’t have personal issues with the culture Camouflage caters to, as a previous reviewer seems to, then its worth stopping at.

Supposedly it’s a surplus store. I didn’t see a whole lot of surplus when I walked in, though. Mostly brand new Dickies, Carharts, and t-​shirts with various soviet emblems and weapons on them. I guess that comes as a result of being located on Granville. I don’t suppose hipsters go in for much surplus. I did find some US Navy peacoats and some military style sweaters, but the markup was pretty bad. The price for the Dickies stuff they had was actually pretty reasonable, but as expected the Carharts were expensive.
When did Carharts become trendy enough to hawk in a place like Granville anyways? Where I come from it’s called workwear for a reason and you wear it out of necessity. That aside, Camouflage is a pretty good place to pick up Dickies and Carharts, but it barely qualifies as a surplus store.
