Cassandra Hotel

Mixed bag. Room is big, no fridge though and bed is comfortable. However the Wifi service is horrible!!!

You should avoid the Cassandra «Hotel» at any price. This motel is overpriced at $ 57, let alone the exploitive $ 309 per night recently charged. The owners have grossly misrepresented this dump on Expedia and on their website. Don’t be fooled.

This place isn’t worth one star. I can’t believe there are any good reviews of this shack. It smells. It’s dirty. It’s old. The towels are tiny and threadbare. They give you one roll of toilet paper. Total. You have to ask for another one! This is on our second day after the maids «cleaned.» The cable remote doesn’t work the TV so for on/​off and volume you have to get up. There are no comforters on the beds, just a threadbare blanket between two top sheets! The carpet is gross and stained. There’s a spider in the corner of the bathroom. I have found my limit and this is past it! I could look past the fact that it’s dated and run-​down but the dirtiness is inexcusable IMHO. I don’t care how cheap it is — RUN, don’t walk, away from this pile.
I will add that the front desk people were helpful and nice. It’s not their fault whoever owns this place isn’t putting any money back into it.
Also — you have to pay extra for wifi and you can only use one device at a time. They said. Now that my phone is connected I haven’t been able to logout and use any other device. So I’d say «one device at all, ever» rather than «one at a time.»

To put it lightly, this room is a FREAKING DUMP. The first thing you see when you walk in, is a pleather couch that has the upholstery ripped, torn, or worn off. It smells of stale sweat and cigarette smoke. The carpeting in our so called deluxe suite had stains all over it. The couch in the living room was a faded burgundy futon. The bathroom had little unidentifiable bugs walking along the bath tub rim, there was black mildew or mold in between the tiles, the ceiling had spots of black mold or mildew. The rubber mat which goes on the floor of the bath tub smelled rolled in one of the bath towels and placed with the clean towels, it had brown and green slimy build up and contained an awful stench. The mirror in the living room was splattered with some type of dry substance, lord only knows what that actually was. The sofa chair, was faded with stains, there were dime size holes in the walls that appeared to have been half-​assed patch with stucco. This place is nothing like what it’s website advertises or other booking sites. The staff refused to provide contact information to hotel manager and would only provide business card containing Facebook and twitter handles. Wifi is NOT included although it says it’s says there is wifi and internet access. You have to pay for it per day. Once we paid extra for it, it would not work. The Hotel states they have a sauna and whirlpool for guest enjoyment, NOT true. It is located in the basement next to the entrance to underground parking. The entire hallway where the sauna and whirlpool is located smells damp, dirty and of mildew. This cannot be healthy for guests. Staff was nice up until I informed them of how unhappy I was with the stay. This place is a joke and should not be in business. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Okay, First, one word to describe my stay: UNPLEASANT.
I don’t know why there are 4 stars review, but this place is a dump and not worth even ONE STAR!
I stayed here for a few month for a business trip, because it has a monthly rental room, it’s about 1100/​month. On their site, they say «extend whenever you want.»
Well, DONT BELIEVE IT, because their management is SHIT.
I checked in on February before tenth (sorry I couldn’t remember the exact time). Before that, I talked them over the phone and talked about renting a room, guess what? That say they need REFERENCE.
I don’t believe it, it’s JUST A HOTEL. Why the hell you need reference for? Besides, there are deposit, so I think there are no need. Luckily, there are some peers at work are willing to help me (thank god)
Finally, I checked in. Everything was okay until May, and here’s why I say their management is a MESS. The front desk girl asked me how long you will be staying so that I can save the room for you. I said the August.
She said okay, I will help you reserved the room. At first, I think they’ve done it, until the end of May, they said you have to move out by June the 6^th because your room was reserved by other people. I said:” but you had reserved the room for me until the end of August, what is that?” And they just keep on avoid this question.
Well, SCREW YOU PRICK! Get lost!
Luckily the business trip ended earlier than I expected, so I lived in someone’s apartment for the mean time.
So in conclusion, this hotel is LAME and the staffs are douchebags.
Before I forget. I’d like to say that this hotel is RACIST. Cuz there is a white man who is also renting there monthly, and he doesn’t have to move out, they put him into another room.
And I forgot to mention that, I’M ASIAN. Maybe that’s why I needed reference.

P.S This hotel isn’t safe, there is one time I saw a man’s car’s back window was smashed and the glasses are all over the ground. And when I was smoking outside, around 10pm, there is a man and a woman with a baby cart. It’s very suspicious what they are doing, but you can definitely smell pot’s odor around them. Beware of them. (drug dealers). The man is always wearing a hat and a red hoodie, and the woman is a blond woman, around 35 to 40.
A little tip at last, if you are renting here monthly, there’s a law in Canada, if they want you out. They should give you a note says why they want to kick you out, and give you a 2 to 3 months’ notice. Otherwise it’s against the law to kick you out without giving you the notice. You can tell the police and sue them if you want.
NEVER NEVER NEVER COME BACK TO THIS SHITHOLE!

* If motel is the worst for you in your standard, this «place» is probably your new worst.
* I’m not sure how those 2, 3, 4 star came from, but this is definitely not worth even 1 star.
* If you happen to find this place from Expedia, don’t trust the photos because it’s misleading, actual place is not even close to any assumptions you might have based on the photos. (I think those photos were taken years ago, probably when this place was cleaned for advertised purposes.)
** Expedia, I really think you should remove this so-​called hotel out from your listing!
TL;DR
It’s like an old and low-​end apartment unit that has been mis-​managed or abandoned by «don’t know what and how» people.
«How can someone manage a place like this?!» will be your first impression.
Details:
— The room is dirty, just like those 1-​star comments stated. You won’t want to barefoot on the carpet.
— window curtain is very very old and noticablely dirty and has stains.
— there’s obvious marks of patched works on the wall and you probably do better job than that…
— bathroom… Traces and signs showing that it was either done by someone who has no idea, or no one was even taking care of it. Towel is dirty.

After researching and finding that many of the lower cost hotels/​hostels in Vancouver were kind of skeezy, I settled on this one for my recent weekend visit, and was pretty happy with the experience.
The front looks run down and cheap. The staff are super nice, though the lobby and the halls look somewhat run down and cheap. There’s a bit of a smell in the stairwell and halls. There’s a bit of noise from other hotel rooms; apparently it’s a great place for lively late night discussions among international visitors.
But the room itself was great! I couldn’t hear anybody once I entered my room. Super clean, shiny enough bathroom, spacious, and a modicum of accessories including a coffee maker, glasses for drinks and a mini fridge. Lighting was a bit dim, though that didn’t matter once the sun was up. I did the customary pre-​stay bedbug check and my room was clean. The A/​C worked effectively during an unusually warm night. Check in and check out (pre-​booked) was fairly seamless and right in line with what I expected.
While you’re right on Kingsway and right near a bus line heading towards Chinatown, you are a bit of a walk from the nearest Skytrain station (Joyce Collingwood). It took about 10 – 15 minutes to walk there from the hotel, plus it’s uphill to the station. I walk a lot and am in decent shape so it was not a problem for me. But if you’re not in decent shape, it could be a non-​starter if you want Skytrain access. You can connect up the line via the bus route, though. (It sucks if you’re looking to buy a day pass up front, though, since you should be at a Skytrain station for that)
There’s a lot of hole in the wall Asian restaurants nearby, but most are cash only and while open nights they pretty much all close around 11pm. The nearby 7 – 11 on Joyce has an unusually large selection of fried foods, and there’s a Domino’s Pizza right down the block.
If I want an honest to goodness hotel in Vancouver and I don’t feel like paying $ 300 a night for high end accommodations, this is the place I’m defaulting to from now on. Well done, guys.
I enjoyed the visit, and didn’t have any problem with any of the drawbacks I mentioned above. For me personally it’s 5 stars, and I only gave it 4 stars for the things that other visitors might not care for.

Stayed for 4 nights on a business trip. Price is mint. Just watch out for bed bugs… I would stay away from here next time.

If I could give less than one star, I would! What they dont tell you online is that there is a $ 150 deposit! I didn’t mind the hold but would like to be notified before. What if I didn’t have the money? Already a bad start. But to top it off they checked us into a dirty ass room, we called the front desk and they told us to wait in the room while they figured it out. 2^nd room they tried to put us in was already in use! Wtf??? Again we were told to wait. They finally found us a room. The room itself was clean and comfortable. We noticed we needed an extra towel and called the front desk. 45 minute wait for a towel? Ridiculous. No free wifi, or extra towels. Wifi is free for 24 hours on one device, after that it is $ 9 for wifi. Not close to the Vancouver area at all. The gym was a room with 4 machines in it. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Very nice for $ 58!

Been to this hotel two years in a row, and probably a third.
Staff — friendly and courteous.
Room — rather large for the price, loved the microwave and mini-​fridge. Bed was comfy and the TV got American channels (weird watching a channel from Georgia (USA) in Canada) and major Canadian channels.
Bathroom: OLD! Really could use a remodeling or at least a good old-​fashioned scrubbing. If this is a deal breaker for you then I’d move along.
Continental Breakfast — Don’t know, never had it as I usually pack enough power bars and make coffee in the room.
Surrounding area — A lot of food choices from Western to all areas of Asia. If you’re not scared of a little walk in the morning there’s a diner across the street with some pretty decent prices on breakfast. There’s a 7 – 11 a block or two west of the hotel and a supermarket further down.
Internet: My first stay in 2009 the internet was really limited. I only had 600mb quota and I couldn’t connect my iPhone (got a message saying the device wasn’t allowed), and had to always go to the «welcome» page to sign in with my room number. On my last stay in 2011 I was handed a piece of paper with the password and had no quota and my iPhone was able to connect. Skype calls to my wife in Las Vegas were flawless.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I found it online and four of us stayed for about $ 72 with all the fees. Overall a great value and good for someone on a budget.
The room was clean and attractive.
Staff was courteous, but not friendly.
Lot of places to eat nearby, many open 24 hours.
Downsides:
Breakfast was very minimal, even as a continental breakfast. A costco muffin, juice box and a rice krispy snack ahdned to you across the counter. No place to eat it, except in the room. They made each of us come down to get it.
We were in a corner room and our «Free wifi» worked only when we were right by the door to the room or in the bathroom.
I can’t speak for Vancouver in general, or even Canada, but it was a lot of driving on city streets to get there from a major highway.

Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Stayed for 4 nights, purchased 3 day wireless internet for $ 15 and gave an extra day for free. If it’s raining, they have umbrellas you can borrow. Continental breakfast doesn’t have a dining area since it’s being renovated so they give you juice and pastries in a bag. After the first time, you get an idea of what you like, and they had no problem giving my preferred breakfast pastry or more than one. Work out area is a bit pitiful since most of the equipment doesn’t not work properly. It’s within walking distance of the sky train and the room was quite large for the price we paid with a view of the mountains. TV is a bit outdated (no flat screen), but bathroom was decent. They provide shampoo and conditioner packets, and bar soap. Water pressure was good. Would definitely stay here again.

Sitting on the outskirts of an area reminicent of Chinatown, the Cassandra Hotel serves as an inexpensive option for tired travelers.

, I snagged a superior queen room for a mere $ 58 after tax and fees.
The lobby staff was definitely new, it took a bit of training and shuffling around to get things squared away, but they were nice and apologetic– and it’s not like I was in a big hurry anyway.
We got a room on the third floor with a gorgeous view of the surrounding neighborhood and mountains.
It was roomy and equipped with a desk, love seat, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and cable television (although the remote did not work).
Maybe it was post-​Olympics celebration, but we heard a bunch of guys conversing awfully loud down the hall that night, it was kind of irritating, so we went down to the hot tub.
They have a large hot tub and sauna open until 11pm, but first you must venture down to the lobby and ask for the key, (which wasn’t so bad, but while returning the key I had some shady guy in a business suit staring at me).
They have a controlled access parking lot under the hotel; nobody gets in without a room key.
Getting out was more of a challenge, apparently you have to trigger some sort of hidden censor, but we eventually got out!
All in all it was a pretty good experience, the room was clean, no mystery stains– (although there was a used hand towel waiting for us in the bathroom) — other than that it was great.

We were looking for an overnight accommodations due to a college visit. Very disappointed in this hotel although a bit expensive. Carpet was stained in many places. Pillow cases were stained. Bathroom was outdated and in need of some repair. Blankets had a smell to them. Air conditioner was very noisy but when we tried to turn it off, the room became extremely stuffy. Could hear other people in the hall way. Both beds (2Q) were uncomfortable and we rolled to the middle. The «continental breakfast» was a lunch bag with a juice box, hard muffin, and granola bar. Spend a few extra dollars and find somplace else. Positive points: free secured parking, friendly front desk staff.
