It’s rare when one actually HAS a local video store, and rarer still when the prices are reasonable and they have a very good selection. Because they’re a very small store, the newer movies are much in demand, and they often only have one or two copies, so it’s best to find out what’s coming out on Tuesday and reserve before then. Although the price has recently risen from $ 2.50 to $ 3(unless that’s just Blu-Rays, which is what I mostly rent), it’s still very reasonable. I won’t watch a new movie on demand if it’s going to be available from Champlain Video, as I believe in supporting local business. I don’t know who owns it, but I have always had terrific service there. Alan Wong is the person I most often see and he’s very knowledgeable about action/sf/fantasy(aka«genre») movies. But all the clerks are friendly and courteous.

I’ve been going here for years since I was a little girl… when videos were a big thing before downloading and Netflix. I have to give kudos for the hood for keeping this place in business. As much as it’s convenient for me to download movies, I miss holding and playing an actual DVD’s, especially since most DVD’s have bonus features and commentary tracks which I am a whore for. It’s best not to go with anything specific in mind but go with a blank canvas and explore your viewing options. This is how I stumbled upon some awesome titles I wouldn’t have discovered. Generous loan times and prices are very fair. The owners are very friendly.
