For a community garden I walked by this place on the way to a meet up the other day and the flowers are really well organized and put together. Clearly for something so small and driven there is a lot of love put into this project. It made me smile as I was walking by.

i’ve got a plot at the cypress community garden. it’s a fantastic spot to walk my dog, grow some salad fixin’s and enjoy the sunshine. if you are looking to join, get in touch with . for $ 30 a year you get a 3X12 plot and you have to commit to helping with the work parties. it helps if you offer to volunteer with the common areas. that got us pushed to the front of the wait list. please leave the space cleaner than you found it. people have a habit of breaking glass bottles and i find myself picking up handful of glass each time i go in the hopes that my dog’s pads don’t get cut.

I can only dream I’ll get my own little plot one day to celebrate my love of all living colour. For now I’m content to wander the tracks and trails breathing in the beauty left there for the community to enjoy.

If you’re taking a wander through Kitsilano, it’s worth passing by the Cypress Community Garden to gaze at the inventiveness that urban gardeners have grown here. The garden itself runs parallel to 6th Avenue for a few blocks in either direction of Cypress, and it is truly a delightful oasis in the middle of the city. Each member of the garden gets a plot in which they can grow towering sunflowers, luscious dahlias, juicy tomatoes or just about anything else you can dream of. Many people actually bring chairs here to take the sun in, and sometimes you’ll catch people enjoying a picnic on the grounds of this lovely spot.
