I’ve been here twice now and find the guys there suck, as a customer u will feel like you’re a burden on them, really unfriendly and not polite. No thanks at the till but they will snap the cash out of your hand. I suggest the wine home brew store right next door as an alternative to these guys. They don’t deserve your cash!

I’ve been coming to Dan’s for years but ever since Dan himself passed away, the guys there just seem like they hate it when people walk through the front door. You guys understand you’re running a business right? Even if you know exactly what you want and don’t have any questions, it always seems like you’re mega inconveniencing them. And if you dare have a question? Prepare for some crazy stinkeye. I’m done with them. Switching to Centennial on Rupert. So should you.

Okay first of all. I have been here many times. I’m a total beer nerd. I’ve been a home brewer for many years, not to mention I work at a very prominent brewery in town. I’m prefacing that because I couldn’t imagine coming here wanting to learn or have questions and being treated the way I was treated. I went in with a recipe in mind. I could have helped myself to the grains I needed but the less than enthusiastic man insisted on getting them. I felt like I was inconveniencing him the entire time I was there. In true Canadian fashion, I even apologized to him! I understand that craft beer has exploded and maybe you have to deal with people who don’t know a lot but want to learn, and if that’s something you aren’t excited to do, then you need a new job bud. I think it’s great! I saw so many people looking at recipes and excited to get their first kits and make some delicious home brew. I personally would rather take the 30 min sky train to Bosa than revisit my «neighbourhood home brew shop». I didn’t stay long enough to decide if he treated everyone like this or if it’s because I’m a woman in a fairly male dominated world. Yup. I said it. I have a very strong desire to «Pretty Woman» this store.

This epic beacon of decency is a welcome relief to any serious homebrewer. Excellent selection helpful staff reasonable prices what more could a brewer ask for?!

Bad service. No debit accepted, only credit or cash. Good quality products. Dirty storefront. Dusty shelves. Staff varied between aloof and condescending for us first-timers. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, and you don’t want to ask any questions they’d be okay, I guess. Just nothing really to recommend other than that.

Well… My first attempt at real home brewing. That Kits u-brew debacle a decade ago totally doesn’t count. A friend of mine told me about Dan’s a while back and said that this was where I needed to start out if I was going to take it seriously. And boy was he correct. My only regret was waiting so long to stop by. Complete with my startup kit and my Pilsner mix I headed out into a new world. «Hey, at least this hobby leaves you with beer to drink» or something like that were their departing words of wisdom. The staff were so helpful, and patient with my blank stares. Uh… I dunno… Beer. I have a strange feeling that I will become a regular at Dan’s very soon. I shall update once I’m truly hopped out here in my kitchen. *** Still cash only for the time being *** So you better be packing bills!
