Epic fail. I’m gluten-intolerant and I was assured when I came here the first time that everything on their menu was gluten free. This was maybe 6 – 8 months ago. Today I recommended a friend who is celiac to try this place with me and luckily she asked about the items being gluten-free and Lo and Behold, the buns are NOT gluten-free any longer. Luckily they agreed to exchange my hot dog bun I’d already ordered for a hot dog in gluten-free vegetarian chili, which was ok but not what I really wanted and not what I ordered. This also explains why I felt sick after eating here once before when I thought it was due to food at a work function. There is no apparent change to their menu and there is still a huge gluten-free sign in the store. I find it ethically questionable when a store changes their food items like this in such a way that it encourages people to order and eat food to which they are allergic. I am not likely to return.

After hearing about Dinky Dawgs being one of the only fast food joints selling organic, hormone-free hotdogs made with natural ingredients, I knew that I had to check it out! To be honest, I was a bit confused about the location at first because I walk through Granville Station all the time without noticing any flamboyant hotdog restaurant with flashy arcade games and décor. Then I realized that I had to go down the stairs to a very quiet hallway with a few shops and a Tim Hortons.(I’ve never seen a Timmy’s so empty before…) Anyways, Dinky Dawgs was surprisingly quiet at 12:30pm on a Wednesday but I considered myself lucky since I didn’t have to line up. I ended up ordering their $ 5.00 hotdog where you get to choose 5 toppings and any combination of sauces. My hotdog consisted of: Their original«Dawg» with grilled onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted peppers, and cheese melted all over the hotdog. I think the ketchup and chipotle mayo I ordered were slathered under the cheese. The hotdog was given to me piping hot from their broiler and it was honestly one of the best hotdogs I’ve ever eaten! The«dawg» itself was extremely succulent, while the bun was toasted perfectly. Although the staff here are quite young, they are very knowledgeable and friendly. Solid 4.5 stars! NOTE: I don’t think they have their $ 5.00 daily deals as advertised on the website anymore? Perhaps I’m wrong…

It’s been awhile since I’ve taken a class at the BCIT Downtown Campus. So much has changed, starting with the food scene! I remember the days when the only option for fast food was the dollar pizza place around the corner. That has been replaced by an Asian eatery and an East Indian joint. On the same block, a new A&W has opened up as well as a Tim Horton’s. These are good choices if you’re looking for some fast eats, but what if you’re in the mood for something a bit different? Well, if you cross the street and you venture inside the Hudson building in Granville Station, you’ll find Dinky Dawgs. The store alone is worth the trip — they have vintage arcade games and a HUGE Millennium Falcon replica hanging up from the celling. The joint gets über brownie points for coolness. The owners of Dinky Dawgs take their jobs seriously. These are not your average hotdogs. These dogs are created from free range, zero hormones, farm raised, organic grass fed animals in the Fraser Valley. The meat is sent to a certified organic butcher in North Van, where they season the meats with a blend of herbs and spices. The menu is very creative. We ordered from the 5 for $ 5 menu, starting with the Turkey Dinner Dawg — This is basically Thanksgiving dinner on a hotdog. This turkey dog is topped with stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce. Sounds good, right? It was. Another good dog(or Dwag) to try, is the mac n’ cheese dawg. This smoky is topped with cheesy, slow cooked mac and cheese. Hot dogs and mac n’ cheese is a match made in heaven. Dinky Dawgs also has fantastic milkshakes.

Now I can see the popularity: custom options, choice of healthy sausage w/no preservatives and all that, and up to 5 choices of toppings – for just $ 5! Probably not as smokey or bbq like the ones out on the street but it’s a comffy place to work and relax, as it’s located in the depths of skytrain DT, across from Timmy’s. Ordered the pork/beef mix, and while light on the cheese, the chorizo was tasty and the right kick. Milkshake is also good value for $ 3…I wouldn’t necessarily come here ranting and raving about it, but marketing-wise, they have it together, feels comfortable and clean washrooms. Friendly, patient staff. Even let you try some samples of their different meats, too, extra star for that. free wifi.

Loved it! Ended up here with a few of my colleagues and tried the Big Mountain Chili Dawg. After they loaded it with chili and cheese they put it in the over to toast, which I thought was even better. SOHOT&JUICEYYYYY — Haha I will be back whenever I’m near Dunsmuir for work.

Yummy hot-doggie! I walked in the front of the sign on Granville/Georgia billion times… As it’s located in the sky train station Granville/Top Shop/The Bay store… It’s kinda of easy to missed or thinking let’s go down the bay. So tried last week(Mac and cheese hot-dog with turkey sausage) and it was real fresh and good. The store is super cool and they’re is a Retro vibe et un je-né-sait-quoi! NOW5 stars review Dinky Dwags! Why? Veggie chili+vegan sausages and awesome service! Looking forward to try the salmon or halibut Dwags sausages! Highly recommended! Also I noticed this is a nice spot in the mall even if it’s downstairs. Next to the liquor store and Tim Hortons. Two words: Cheat Day!

This is the first hot dog I’ve had in over 10 years and it was definitely worth the wait! These dawgs are amazing! Eating grass fed meat is important to me and it’s great to see that this restaurant realizes the importance of sourcing good, quality meats. The gluten free buns were the best I’ve had to date. I will definitely return the next time im in vancouver. Until then, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I’ll see one open on the island sooner than later :)

Just stopped in here yesterday for the first time, and it was really cool. I really didn’t know what or how to order but the staff there was great at finding me something I’d like! I ordered the Pizza Dog, and it was fantastic! I absolutely love the fact that you can choose what kind of hot dog you get, I got the Pork/Beef which was awesome! And their buns are really fresh which is always a plus at hotdog joints, it adds so much more. I was full just after eating one hotdog, seriously delicious! I can’t wait to go back there and try something new until I’ve tried it all! For the price of $ 5 you can’t go anywhere near wrong! Highly recommend this place if you’re in the Granville area!

The food is not bad, but they seriously need to get tge customers real knifes and forks, the hit dog is too big to bite with yiur mouth but the utensils provided barely cuts through. I get frustrated every time I eat there because having trouble cutting up the food. Would change to a 4 star if they change that.

It’s a weird location for such good hot dogs. I would have expected something much grubbier down in the sewers, but actually I think it’s better than Japadog. I didn’t try a dessert dog, but some day when I’m basking in post-exercise-I-can-eat-anything-I-want-glow I’ll give it a shot. I think a pizza place would be more at home down there, but maybe that’s just the ninja turtle in me talking.
