History

Established in 2008.

The Restaurant idea came up 20 years ago when I was working in Mexican restaurant in Edmonton, my first restaurant job; I got hooked. I when to school to be an accountant after taking a year off from school. Then two years later I decided that I needed to know more about the kitchen and looked for a job as an a cook apprentice. The Edmonton Petroleum Club hired me and then I began my career as a cook. 3 years later i was their pastry chef. Then I needed to know the restaurant more and I became a restaurant manager for Julio’s Barrio and then move to Vancouver. Worked for different companies and finally my dream came true.

I have travel to Mexico, since I live there when I was 18, I love Mexico; their culture, the food, the architecture and the people. I wanted a restaurant where you can feel like you are in Mexico City, not at the beach; but in a culture environment with great food and great people. El Barrio name came from the fact that I like to support my community.
