Specialties
Floating is a practice where you enter into a float tank (also called an isolation tank or sensory deprivation tank) which is a well-engineered enclosed tub that has about 10″ of water in it as well as about 800 lbs. of dissolved Epsom salts. The individual lies down in the water and floats in the nude. The water is heated to the same temperature as the surface of your skin so that when the water settles and you remain relaxed and still, you do no really feel the water anymore. The tank is light-proof and sound proof and has a neutral smell. All forces of gravity on the musculoskeletal system are eliminated from the extreme positive buoyancy; so imagine a space where you don’t feel anything, you don’t see or hear anything. The tank’s environment is designed to allow for a minimal amount of sensory input from entering into your nervous system. This environment then has a plethora of benefits and applications for health, personal development, spirituality and well-being.
History
Established in 2013.
Float House is an independent business created out of a passion for what floating may do for an individual and for the greater whole.
Float tanks have been around for decades and have a lot of peer reviewed research showing a plethora of benefits. There were even major contributions to this body of work out of UBC with Dr. Peter Suedfeld, professor of Psychology.
We are happy to be bringing floating back to Vancouver, to be introducing it to a new generation, and making it available in such a fascinating period of human existence.
