Description

Specialties

Fray on Fraser is an East Vancouver restaurant offering local ingredients in a global style, with meat, fish, vegetables, beer and wine all emanating from B.C., superbly prepared by head chef Antonio Martin and his team.

We aim to serve food as fresh as possible, procured from local farms and suppliers, within 100 miles of your plate.

The Devils on Horseback (known locally as F-Bombs) have become an early favourite, as are our homemade portobello fries.

All this and six cracking B.C. microbrews on tap, as well as a great selection of west coast wines make Fray an eclectic, quality place to come dine with friends, enjoy a romantic interlude, or take in the game.

History

Established in 2011.

Realizing that Main Street had become crowded with restaurants fighting for business while Granville and Cambie had gone more or less high end, Kyle Polanski and Chris Parry focused on Fraser Street as the place where the next big food wave was likely to break.

The area had been changing for several years, but local restaurants had yet to come to grips with the growing local population of urbanites, hipsters, parents and professionals.

Parry and Polanski purchased what was a run-down Vietnamese restaurant on a barren strip of Fraser and turned it into a young, energetic bar-restaurant with an ambitious menu of local, fresh cuisine.

The early results have been very promising, with local residents turning out in force and word spreading quickly that something new was in town.

The Fray team are committed to remaining as local as possible, offering a seasonal menu that brings the best of B.C.‘s small food producers, breweries and vineyards to your table, at a price you can afford.

Meet the Business Owner

Chris P.

Business Owner

Chris Parry shifted out of the hospitality industry in 1997 after a decade in management of night clubs and pubs, shifting to a career in the film industry before finding his way to journalism. As an editor at the Vancouver Sun, he created the award-winning Fatabase, a searchable database of nutritional information from 80 B.C. chain restaurants, allowing consumers to cross-reference multiple restaurants and find which had the healthiest food. Taking his drive for healthy food to the next level, he teamed up with Kyle Polanski to ‘put his money where his mouth is’ and create the sort of restaurant he thought the industry lacked: One that features healthy, local, and fresh food that hits all the flavour points of fast food.
