Instant Bedrooms

Excellent service and a very functional bed. We had our Wallbed installed in 2012. It is beautiful, compact, comfortable and it works really well making our studio room into a bedroom very quickly.
I have to say that after 3 years of being pulled down daily the bed broke. The young student using it may have been a bit rough. But I called Instant bedrooms where we bought the unit and Erin offered us free parts for replacement. Then the Wallbeds company in Richmond made the repair very quickly. They really wanted to serve me well beyond their warranty agreement. This led me to put this review in Unilocal.Excellent service and a very functional bed

I wanted to maximize our 2^nd bedroom and opted to get a wallbed with customized cabinetry on either side.
I visited the store and found the staff helpful in explaining options. They stressed ‘customization’ and that they could design whatever I needed. I didn’t want anything extraordinary, just wanted them to use a specific kit for hanging file folders and pullout desk space.
It takes anywhere 3 – 4 weeks for most pieces to be custom built and delivered/​set-​up. The two guys arrived to set it up and were ok, but a little abusive to our new home. I cringed every time they threw something down on the new hardwood floors. And, they were messy.
Installation took at day and at the end was shown how to use the bed/​table etc. From outward appearances, everything looked good. After having the installers banging around our new condo for 6 hours, I was so over it. My fault for not getting on my hands and knees to look over every square inch.
I later discovered that the a pullout drawer was built too small for the width of the cabinet, so they added a 1-​inch board to make it fit … so much for ‘custom built’. On the left side, it’s attached to the cabinet, on the right side it’s wedged over an inch.
Then there were the two pullout tray kits that I provided them to install … they fricken’ butchered it. One was so manipulated (parts of it were bent) and incorrectly put together that I had to remove it, buy a new one, and install it myself again. The kits came with installation instructions, but clearly no one followed them.
While taking out the kit hardware I noticed how they had butchered the inside of the cabinet too … they had tried to install the kit 5 times at different heights/​depths — there were 5 different holes in different positions for each of the spots where screws attached.
Overall, the piece functions and looks nice from the outside. It’s the finer finishing details and failed attempts at ‘customization’ that left a bad taste in my mouth. Given the expense ($$$$) I expected a bit more when it came to the overall craftsmanship.
