I live around the corner so I go at least once a week. Prices are reasonable and portions are plentiful. I love the dumplings and won tons, whether in soups or by themselves. I also love the eggplant dish which I have on a bed of steamed rice. Another reviewer makes reference to the«surly teenage daughter.» Far from surly, she is quite wonderful, albeit a character, and it is a joy whenever she is around!

A nice hole-in-the-wall Taiwanese place. Not fancy but the food tastes good and the prices are good value. Couldn’t try the dumplings or buns because they don’t have any vegetarian ones(except an egg one, wasn’t in the mood though). They had a cold dish Fungus and Cilantro which was really nice and interesting, kind of black mushrooms with a vinegar-y sauce. It’s far from a vegetarian-centric place but you can get a decent selection of things, even the basic spicy tofu and broccoli on rice was only around $ 7 and tasted good. If you like lamb and other meats, they have way more options though. I don’t live in the area, but if I did I would probably come back here more often.

Like the other reviews say, the food is quite good, and the” mom and pop” cooking in the back seem to really try. The cleanliness is an issue and the surly teenage daughter sticking her fingers in your food as she serves it is off-putting. I once had to ask her to wash her hands after she was playing with someone’s purse-dog, yes in the restaurant… she is a mean piece of work and one of the reasons I hesitate to go back. The parents seem to depend on her to do some serving and cleaning which she obviously hates. Mom and dad work like crazy and I really like the food. The dumplings are amazing, but we saw the cook getting them out of the freezer from a package. Love the cucumber with garlic and rock salt and a good green onion pancake. Most of the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked good. The prices are almost too low. Too bad about the unhappy daughter though.

Need a ghetto dumpling place but don’t want to fly to China? Look no further. Parking is available directly on Joyce when it’s not rush hour. The place reminds me of a typical Asian mom and pop shop in Asia — nice and loud, with a laptop blaring random stuff. They even have one table reserved for the kid to do homework. I wouldn’t be surprised if the family that runs this place lived upstairs. The dumplings are quite delicious. Don’t expect fine dining here — this is what you’d find in a street restaurant in the Far East. They taste like something your friend’s mother would cook for you when you visited. Absolutely beautiful. My friends and I tried 4 different types of dumplings. Tip — just get the cheapest ones. They all taste the same. They really do. We couldn’t even tell which dish was which, even after biting them apart and looking at the filling. This may not be a bad thing though. We still al ended up stuffing our faces. The only other caveat is that the dishes aren’t as filling as they look — I think I can eat 5 plates by myself. No, I didn’t try. To mix things up, we had the tomato and scrambled egg. Again, this one tastes like home cooking, but possibly with a bit more sugar. Can’t go wrong with this dish either. My friend from Beijing offiicially approved of this place — said it was just like the food he ate back home. Authenticity test — passed. I will be back next time I have a dumpling urge. Recommended.

My boyfriend and I live right across the street from the restaurant but we normally get take out. I would say the restaurant has real home cooked quality food. We always note the ‘wok hei’(an aroma that only food cooked in a wok would have) taste and this restaurant has it. I wouldn’t say the food is amazing, it’s more of good old comfort food for your daily needs. Besides it being convenient, the other good thing about this place is that it is really decently priced with about 20CAD for two with a little left over.

Randomly found this place; walked out very satisfied. Good, authentic Northern style Chinese food, and cheap. Note: they accept credit cards! FOOD = — The pork & chive dumplings were super juicy, so much so that you don’t even need sauce/vinegar. Taste was good. I do agree with other reviewers though that it has the potential to lean towards«too salty» if the cook were eyeballing the amount of ingredients. Ours was OK; not too salty. — Cilantro and wood mushrooms dish was authentic. It was clear that they’ve poured crushed vinegar-marinated garlic(my mom used to do this) all over the cilantro and mu-er(wood shrooms). It was up-your-nose-and-makes-you-cry spicy, like wasabi. I would order it for my mom next time(but not for myself) because it tasted so authentic. — Stir-fried eggplants: very good. I don’t like oily dishes but this dish has to be oily and it has to be flavoured correctly, and they did it well. Not just that, they were generous enough to have some pork and red/green peppers in the dish even though it’s not written on the menu. We were full from the 15pc dumplings but it was so delicious we finished this too(not a small portion). — I ordered wintermelon tea as a drink. It came in a tall-ish can, cold. Not as sweet as the stuff served in Burnaby bubble tea places, which was good. PRICES = 5 stars for this attribute. 15pc dumplings for $ 6? Yes please. Usually the eggplant dish alone would cost $ 10 – 13; this place was $ 7 – 8. SERVICE = Good. I have no complaints. Waitress was polite and came whenever we needed something. AMBIANCE = Hole-in-the-wall. Not much décor(they are trying a little though). Basic tables and chairs, light green wallpaper. I don’t mind this though, so this was not a minus to me. CLEANLINESS = Uncertain. It looked relatively clean as far as what I saw, but I didn’t see all of it and I didn’t check out the washrooms.

nothing really special here, reasonable prices — pan cake, beef roll and dumplings were good. Fried rice OK. Stired fried noodle oily as usual. When ordering dumpling(steamed or pan fried), make sure you request no added oil on top. Otherwise, it worth a second visit.

It is a solid 3.5 just based on the dumplings me and my partner ordered. The term ‘hole-in-the-wall’ is no more truer than by coming to this place, near the Joyce Skytrain Station, you come in here, and it is bare minimums at best, with a Chinese family sitting in the corner watching Asian ‘soaps’ on their laptop waiting for someone to come in. I know this place has been here awhile, from the white dim flourescent lights, to the kids drawing of a girl with scary hair hung on the wall, this place is family owned and run! You can hear the pan frying, and beating of meat(or something against a board) behind the wall when you walk in. The menu is actually pretty substantial, with many items, not just dumplings(to what their name is implying). My partner helped us order lamb dumplings, and it took awhile to come out. In a bamboo steamer, layed out on cabbage, each dumpling was not uniform in looks. The menu said 8, yet we count 9(bonus!), and a dish of vinegar mixed with garlic and oil accompanied our steamed dish right in front of us. These are some of the soupiest(not juiciest) dumplings I have ever had, it’s almost like eating Xiao Long Bao. We wondered if there were freshly made, and my partner spoke to the woman working there in Mandarin, and she said they were frozen. We found it very surprising, as they tasted fresh. The rack of dumplings came out to about $ 6 with tip, and I would be interested in their pan fried dumplings next time! I can tell that the majority of their business, to keep them alive, is the take-out business, as all they did when we were the only ones sitting around, is cook, and prepare take-out food, must be for all the apartments in the area.

* Consistently 3 star * I returned again to sample some more of the menu, and once again I like the variety of options and the food was ok, but didn’t wow me. I tried: — Lamb roujiamo. The lamb was nice and tender, but it was overly salty from an excessive pour of soy into the sauce. There were hints of cumin and chili, but the soy flavour overpowered them. You can only imagine how much soy there must be to overpower those two other strong flavours! The bread was good, but not as hot as it could be. It was as if it had been made previously and then just quickly reheated. Photo: — Stir-fried pancake with pork and veggie. The pancake was sliced into thin strips and had a nice chew. The pork and veggies were cooked nicely. There wasn’t that slight charring from the wok I normally like though. It was decent, but again not wow. Photo: The place still could use a really thorough deep clean it is starting to look pretty grimy. I’m not so sure I’ll be returning anytime soon as there are so many better Chinese options not far away.

The food is very good. The wontons tasted great but the soup stock itself was a bit tasteless but I never finish soup stocks anyways. I had the boiled 15 dumpling combo and it was very good. As mentioned in other reviews the dipping sauce is great with lots of garlic. My whole lunch was $ 10 with a tip and I’m very full. Everything seemed very fresh The downside is that place is a bit of hole in the wall and didn’t seem super clean. The hot and sour soup isn’t very good. Very not hot nor sour.
