Judy C Chen, DDS

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Chen’s for several years now and I could not be more pleased to have her as my dentist. I find she truly cares about her patients. When I mentioned to her I was getting married three years back she offered to fix a small jagged edge off my tooth for free. She seems to truly care about my comfort and will offer to apply Vaseline on my lips to prevent them from getting dry of uncomfortable during scaling. In the medical profession it is easy to find dentists that overbook to get in more patients at once, but I’ve never felt that way with Dr. Chen. I used to have poor dental hygiene and I attribute Dr. Chen’s candid yet professional advice to helping me turn the deteriorating health of my gums around.

Unprofessional and impersonal treatment!
I went for a painful tooth, possibly needing a root-​canal treatment, and was seen mostly by one of the 4 hygienists, who took the X-​rays, charged $ 30 for «brushing orientation», and $$ for full initial examination (which she did not really do).
Dr. Chen really just came in the end, to say «You will need 6 appointments. Next Tue morning we start.» and did not have time (or were simply unwilling to) explain what that was all about.
Fine. I came back for the appt., got that rubber in my mouth by the hygienist before Dr. Chen showed up to start drilling my teeth away. I couldn’t talk or ask what she was about to do, and the hygienist didn’t know either to explain to me beforehand.
Bad service: my bite was wrong, my teeth became sensitive (and they were fine before!!). I scheduled an appt. for follow-​up.
Again, Dr. Chen was seeing 2 other clients (at once), so the hygienist were coming back and forth asking her what to do, did some polishing, and asked me to try it this way, no bite adjustment done.
Next appt: Same story, factory-​like treatment.
In the middle of my treatment, the SECRETARY (not Dr. Chen) told me she would be in mat-​leave in a couple of weeks, so they would schedule a longer appt before she was gone, so that she could finish my treatment before leaving.
I came back for this longer appt, I saw her treating other 2 clients, but I was received already by the new dentist who had no idea of what to do (how to continue my treatment).
Conclusion: She might have been a good dentist in the past, who knows … but definitely NOT NOW!
Dr. Chen is very money-​oriented (marketing is more important than health care for her), she gets lost while treating 3 patients simultaneously, rushes to finish the appt, does not care about the quality of the treatment, delegates all to the many hygienists (who, many of the times, have no clue about what to do), and charges extra even if just to talk to you and explain what is going on!
