I just had an excellent experience at Kitsalano Barbers. I don’t usually write reviews but I would like to spread the word on what a great find this place is. I just moved to the area was looking for a new barber and stumbled upon this place, although apparently it has been here since the 60s. In a city where everything is new this place feels like a throw back to an era where the local barber really does know everyone’s name and story. Ray cut my hair and the cut was great but the experience of being in the shop and all the stories of Vancouver as it was is what will keep me coming back.

Kitsilano Barber shop on 4th Ave. Absolutely the worst haircut I have ever received in my 42 years on this earth! I think my barber was drunk or blind. Uneven every where visible lines, crooked every where, patchy chunks hacked out. Nice enough guy but it is probably time for him to retire. Would have included picture but i immediately went to get it fixed at a different barber shop. I gave it one star but would give it none if I could.

I recently had a great experience at this little barbershop after moving into the neighbourhood. I came in on a Saturday afternoon, and it was busy. I was expecting a wait, but they were well-staffed, and I was invited to a chair before I even had a chance to grab one in the waiting area. I may have been lucky, as I got Ray, the older gentleman that runs the place as my barber. He’s probably getting on to about 70, but has been cutting hair since he was 17(!!!). His experience shows: I got more or less everything I look for in a haircut: friendly, but not vapid or intrusive conversation; attention to detail, including going over everything at the end and catching a few stray hairs; an unpretentious attitude; and a reasonable price. After having a mixed bag of experiences all over Vancouver(since when is $ 35 – 40 the standard price for a men’s cut? It takes ½ an hour!), I was very glad to find this, especially a few blocks away from my place. Other notes: — Don’t expect fancy salon finishings/décor: this place hasn’t been updated since it was first set up in the 50’s or 60’s(valley girl voice: omg, so last-century, right!?) — I have thick, wavy, omni-directional hair that often grows out weird 2 weeks after what looks like a good cut, and this one stood the test of time — My cut is relatively straight forward: perhaps temper your expectations if your hoping for something avant-garde or future-retro-crazy(actually, maybe if you asked Ray to «do what he used to do in 1965» you’d get exactly what you wanted?)

FINALLY! A good old fashioned barbers which is well priced, friendly and quick. I have had some«barber issues» since arriving in Van. [See Kings Cut and FortKnight reviews] so I was relieved when I got an awesome haircut in a friendly atmosphere that cost $ 19. This place reminds me of my local barbers back home in Dublin. No appointment necessary and whilst there were 5 people in front of me, there were 5 barbers. So I was seen in less than 5 minutes at a lunchtime on a Saturday of the long weekend. A busy busy time. It was an Asian girl who cut my hair [I didn’t catch her name] but I will be back looking for her again. She did a stellar job on my hair. «A number 1 back and sides and a bit off the the top.» «Are you Irish?» «How’d you guess?» «That’s how Irish people ask for their hair cuts, there’s a lot of them that come in here» So apparently that’s not how Canadian’s ask for their hair to be did. I must find out what they ask for. They vacuum your head afterwards. Amazing. They only accept cash so I had to go across to the bank to get some. This really was my only real issue. Vacuuming gets rid of some hairs but really washing your hair is the only thing to get rid of all the hairs, so if they had done that and they accepted debit or credit they would have gotten a 5.

Fantastic classic barber service. I’ve seen Rick for years and he’s always done a great job. Haircuts are cash only. NOTE: The phone number is wrong. It should be 604−733−2710. The number listed is some guy’s house, and when I called from Unilocal earlier he said he gets 10 – 12 calls a day. It’s irresponsible. The barbers didn’t know it was happening and feel horrible.

Ray gives the best flat top in town. Head over to this old school barber shop and get a fantastic, no nonsense haircut. I’ve been going to this place for almost 20 years and have never been disappointed. No reservations so call ahead to make sure they aren’t too busy.

Popped in for a quick fade and saw a guy getting a shave. A classic straight razor shave! I’m sold! Waited for bettina anchor a great haircut and a wonderful shave. The shave was 30 and the cut 19. But for 30 bucks, you leave feeling like a million! This will be my new weekly, Monday afternoon ritual. Oh! And they let’s bring my dog inside to chill also! Great classic lil barbershop! Only thing missing was the old guy with the crazy one liners! Lol Maybe he’s off Mondays! Btw, no appointment necessary. And they accept cash only.

Suddenly realizing the solution to my unruly hair, I Unilocaled on my iPhone and discovered this little multi-chair Barber shop located near McDonalds here in Kits. Bettina, whose upbeat and happy persona trimmed and happified my this and that… sending me cheerily on my way with a $ 19 cut(although I had noted the guy before me paid $ 17). Would very much go here again!
