I came here to use the wifi to work on my zine while waiting for a friend for lunch and to just have tea. There isn’t any rocket science to putting a tea bag to hot water. The girl at the til was friendly but seemed bored. Decent amount of seating, not a lot but fair amount. They do have some raw vegan treats.

Very disappointed in this place. I have been going there in the mornings to get coffee lately. The vegan cookie I always get wasn’t there– so the cashier told me that everything in the green section is vegan so I got something else. Later that day I got horrible stomach pains. I went in the next day and realized it was not vegan. I informed her, she did not care. I asked for her managers number, she gave me her own number. I spoke to her on the phone and she said«eggs are protein, not dairy.» I replied with«I’m vegan and cannot have eggs.» She did not care and her father is the owner so nothing will come out of this. I think it’s horrible that people who have no clue about food work/own businesses such as this. Oh yeah, they charge for cold almond/soy milk on your coffee(used instead of milk/cream). Here’s a tip: take off your«vegan» options from the menu– you obviously are not a vegan friendly establishment.

A nice little spot in the Cathedral Place, along Hornby. It’s always closed when I walk by after work, so it must cater heavily to the offices above and nearby. The dark wood furniture does seem nice for meetings. The London Fog(Earl Grey tea Latte with Vanilla) was good. Not too sweet but sweet enough to notice. They use Twinings Earl Grey. They have a good assortment of baked goods, so now I have a place to come get Cornish Pasties when I have the craving(Blenz in Pacific Centre used to be it, but they don’t carry them anymore). I noticed the Fruit Smoothies poster(3 flavours), but didn’t try them. Christine R’s review from 2008 says they’re made from a mix… I wonder if that’s still the case, but I probably won’t try it out.

I made this spot my regular for a few months and agree that the service is good. They move folks through quickly, although no one orders coffee here that requires an instruction manual, a la Starbucks. The sausage rolls are greasily good, the rice crispy squares huge, plus there are some healthier options.(None of which I’ve tried.) I find the coffee to be weak — even the dark roasts lack punch. Too much water and too few beans/little brew time is my guess. If nothing else, going here instead of Tim’s is perfect for the building alone: the limestone exterior, tiled floors, and brass doors give a real upper-crust vibe to the place.

It was the name that got me. Wouldn’t you be drawn in? Anyway, I’m happy to report that this is a pleasant little coffee shop in the lobby of the Cathedral Place building. The staff were really good about answering all our questions about the smoothies they advertised and the baked goods — although it became apparent that the baking is brought in and that the smoothies, delicious as they are, are made from a mix. Sorry, no full points for those things! However, they did do a little latte art with my coffee, and though I’m not overly fussy about my coffee, it was a really nice latte, hot and fresh. It wasn’t especially cheap, though not outrageously expensive, either. We had a cinnamon bun-muffin to share, which was really delicious, though it would have been really excellent with some frosting. What is this business of serving nekkid cinnamon buns? I liked our table next to a sunny window. Overall, My Honey’s Buns is a nice spot to mingle with the business types, or just watch them go by on their business-y business. At the very least, I’m tempted to suggest it for all my business meetings.
