New Image College of Fine Arts

I got beautiful shellac gel nail polish done by a student in a «friends & family promotional appointment» She was honestly great and really worked hard on focusing on details while she’s still learning with teacher in class. I had a good experience but can imagine it can be really a hit or miss based on who you get & how confident/​good the student may be. Perhaps, not everyone opened to student doing this depending on services. For me, I am definitely opened to manicure /​pedicure services but not so much personal services: waxing, «cellulite», massage, hair cut by a student for example.
It also felt good to be supportive in helping a student who is still developing her confidence and on her way to becoming a great manicurist. She knew the basics with cheat sheet and did my nails very well & professionally in the end. My favourite part: The hand massage where your arms and wrist massaged (I wish this was longer and done firmer & confidently) The great thing is you can give feedback to your student. Another part I enjoyed was nail filing and the wonderful fruit moisturizing cream from France. It smelled great! The student I had is really enjoying the nail program as its only 5 months long, part time flexible scheduling, and cost about $ 5000.
Other things: To note the bathroom is very narrow & awkward in this very old building. Even with 3 people it’s packed. I was scared going in there as a «customer» as the first stall the toilet seat was a discoloured brown. The nail room has all sorts of fumes with no ventilation. The entire building is under scaffolding and its on the 15^th floor. I also was a bit turned off going up the elevator and hearing grungy teenage girls gossip about «that bitch» it just made me feel uncomfortable and wondered what place I was walking into. But in the end it was a good experience

I am currently attending New Image, taking the full Make Up Diploma program. I chose this school above all other make up schools in the lower mainland for many reasons. From the first moment I walked through the doors, I was made to feel like I was right where I belonged. New Image also has the most comprehensive FX and prosthetics course in all of western Canada. I could have chosen any of the «big name» schools around town but after visiting them all, I definitely felt New Image was right for me. From the moment I first came for a tour, the owner, Charie, never once made me feel pressure to sign up right then and there as all the other schools did. She treated me as if I were her own child, her peer and as person; not a cheque. The teachers and administrators of this school are some of the nicest and most genuinely good hearted people I have met. The teacher I work with on a daily basis, has been one of the most inspiring and driven person I have ever had the chance to work with and each day I step into her class, I know I made the right choice by picking New Image. Any issues I ever have, I know I can bring to teachers and administrators and I know they will always listen to me and actually HEAR what I have to say and try to work with me to resolve whatever the issue might be. The teachers here are also some of the most supportive people I have ever met and always do their best to keep you motivated and trying to do your best. Overall, I can honestly say there is nothing bad I could ever say about this school. I have never been happier in any sort of educational arena and never have I felt more at ease and confident than I have while attending this school. I urge all who are considering taking a course here, to really go in and have a look around for yourself and meet everyone and I know you’ll feel just as I do about my second home.
