I lowered my expectations about Oceanside Hotel as soon as I saw its awful website. That said, I was still disappointed when I got there. My three-star rating for the staff is an average of the rude guy who checked me in on day one, and the super nice man who checked me out on day two. Rude Guy didn’t even say hello or thank you, what time check-out was, how to get to the room, what the Wi-Fi password was, or how to lock the door when leaving the room. See, the rooms at Oceanside are protected by a puny locking doorknob – the kind you can pick in seconds with a bobby pin. And, due to the hardware being a combination of ancient and Canadian, you cannot use your key to lock the knob from the outside; it can only be locked from the inside before you shut the door. This would normally be fine, except that the inside knob is completely smooth and doesn’t have a lock. When I went back downstairs to ask Rude Guy, he treated me like I was an idiot and gave me a half-assed explanation that I could barely understand due to his thick accent. I went back upstairs and eventually figured out that you have to PUSHIN the inside knob and then TURN it clockwise to lock the whole loose, jiggly mechanism. Huh. The hallways are super dingy and smelly, and they make the place feel more like a $ 30 hostel than the $ 125 hotel that it pretends to be. The room/suite itself was huge, comfortable, and reasonably clean.

The best: 1. Location, location, location — everything is within walking distance. it was excellent to be able to go out and not to worry about driving. 2. Free parking — one of the nicest things in downtown Van, cause parking is expensive or impossible. 3. Good value for the price — it’s a furnished apartment with everything: fridge, stove, dishes, coffee maker, TV, etc. We were a party of three and we were very comfortable staying there. Not so good: 1. The free internet was very spotty. I work remotely, it was very difficult to have reliable connection. It would just drop out and then pick up again, and on and on and on. 2. Our door really needs a new lock. It was hard to lock the door, it would just not lock. It looks like they changed it a few too many times, so even with a new looking plate and lock, it still was difficult. We had to wiggle it a few times to make sure it locked before we left the room. It needs a whole new door, maybe. Overall, will stay there again. Friendly staff, great location, free parking, and a promise of free WiFi.

This appears to have been a small apartment building that is now used for the Oceanside Hotel. There is a living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. We were promptly greeted at 1:30 am and helped to our room. Beds, a little small but comfortable, and pillows a little soft, but also comfortable(at least for me) Shower has hot water, but where did they get those small disks of soap? Room is clean. Kitchen is nice with good supplies(toaster, coffee maker, etc… It was very clean The high speed wireless Internet is great and had an extremely comfortable sleep. Please make up my room. Again we were out all day only to come back to an unmade bed.(I would be happy to do it but give me advance notice.) Not withstanding, the place is comfortable and it was nice to come back to a living room with a comfortable couch and large screen TV after the day out and about town. This is not a Marriott or Hyatt but it was inexpensive, clean with an extremely friendly staff and very close to many restaurants, parks, and waterfront. I would definitely stay here again.

Great value for the price. This is an apartment hotel, and family oriented. It is not fancy, but very clean and comfortable. There were four of us and usually at least one has issues with the bed in any hotel we stay at. Here we all slept well and found the beds to be very comfortable. Great location, near English Bay beach and lots of restaurants and shops. All the staff were great, but Sam who generally works the front desk day shift is a gem. He was able to provide information and assistance with anything we asked. We will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family going to Vancouver.

Nice people who manage the place. We come here because it is dog friendly and near the beach and park. All the units are apartment style living. However, I now bring my own towels from home because theirs are about the size of the towels you get at a bad gym. The beds are not the least bit comfortable and it is noisy. There is free parking, the units are spacious and only $ 150 per night. If you need a long term stay and have a pet this may work. I just can’t wait to move into Vancouver so I will never have to stay here again.
