Specialties
The Or Gallery is an artist-run centre committed to exhibiting work by local, national, and international artists whose art practice is of a critical, conceptual and/or interdisciplinary nature. Since its inception in 1983 the gallery has acted as a laboratory for research, proposition making, conceptual experimentation and documentation.
History
Established in 1983.
The Or Gallery was established as a small gallery and adjoining apartment space on Vancouver’s east-side Franklin Street. The space initially operated as a de facto curatorial residency for artists, changing gallery directors every year and providing them residence on premises, until a fire in 1987 forced the organization to move.
The Or Gallery later established longer terms for its Director/Curators but continues an emphasis on curatorial diversity through guest curated exhibitions and other projects.
