Standard Vietnamese. Their bun is okay, on the bland side but decent with the addition of chili sauce and extra fish sauce to up the acidity and cut the sweetness of the nuoc mam cham. (Plain fish sauce is not on offer at the tables, but they will bring it on request. Be sure to specify«original» fish sauce, lest they bring you more of the overly sweet prepared«dipping fish sauce»

Zero complaints about this place it was yummy and quick. I couldn’t even finish my bowl it was so huge. I don’t know the proper name for the phở I got but it was the rare beef. The waitress was nice and helpful the spring rolls were DELICIOUS and I got to sit at the window bar and people watch. I can imagine how much more enjoyable this would be in the summer when the windows are opened out into the street. It was cheap too. Definitely worth it and it was the most crowded phở spot on the street for good reason. Funny thing is I posted a pic of my phở on my instagram and got the most likes I’ve ever gotten on a picture go figure

The house special was great! The broth was full of flavor. There was nothing more satisfying than a bowl of phở on a Sunday morning. Plus, if your looking to get strong Viet iced coffee, its definitely here.

My friend EJ is quite the prolific Unilocaler… he can write a short story based on a meal. He believes a review should have a beginning, a middle and an end, whereas I just get down to the facts. So, with the new year upon us, I’m going to try a new approach. Here goes: My physiotherapist appointment ended at 1pm and I was pretty hungry. I took a stroll down Davie St because there are a lot of places for a quick bite. I remembered reading an article about the best phở restaurants in town and I ventured upon Phở Goodness.(I actually got confused a bit and almost wandered into Phở Central, but thanks to ShawOpen wifi and Google, I found the right one.) It is a small and cozy restaurant, but you can tell that it is popular. It was after 1pm, and all the tables were full. Lucky for me, they have 4 window bench seats and there was 1 available. This being my first visit, I opted for the signature phở. I was not disappointed at all. The soup was very light and flavorful on its own and I could’ve ate it as is however, I like to supercharge the flavors and added the mint leaves and bean sprouts, squeezed the lime slice and added some hot sauce and hoisin sauce. Magnificent! For me, phở is all about the soup and the meat cuts. The signature phở includes rare beef, beef brisket, beef tripe and beef balls. All my favorites. It’s easy to make a bad bowl of phở, but you can tell these guys take the time to make a tasty soup stock and use fresh cuts of meat. I rate this a solid 4 stars and will come again. I noticed that they had salad rolls and ban mhi on the menu so am looking forward to my next visit. Maybe I’ll bring my friend EJ. maybe not. Stay tuned.

I found Phở Goodness through one of VancityBuzz’s recommended phở restaurant articles and decided to give it a try during my lunch break on a Friday. I was pleasantly surprised, upon walking into the restaurant, of how clean and modern the small little restaurant is. I came at 12:30pm and had to wait a little bit for the rush to subside before I got a seat. What I found amazing about Phở Goodness is that once you order your items you most likely will get your food within 5 – 10 minutes. The turn around time for your food to get to your table is amazing! But despite the fast turn around time, I wasn’t that satisfied with the fact that there is only one size for all noodles on the menu. Each item was closing in at 8 to 9 dollars, putting your lunch meal at around 10 something. I really wanted to like Phở Goodness, if not only because the restaurant was so clean and the turn around time was fast, but I have a feeling that my carnivore eating friends may not be too keen with the amount of meat in their noodles. I ordered the #20 House special beef phở which is your typical all-in meat phở but was surprised by how little of meat you get in comparison to noodles. I’m not a big meat eater when it comes to phở so the portion was just right for me, but I have a feeling those that are use to the normal huge meat portions from other phở restaurants may not be too happy about this. The soup was extremely tasty and salty which made me think that they must have put in a lot of MSG, but i wasn’t complaining about this until I finished my bowl of noodles and was searching for water to cure the dry mouth feeling.

Stopped by yesterday(a rainy, cold day) for the phở. Very good! I’ve had phở in Saigon and this stuff would pass the authenticity test. I had a late lunch here, around 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday, and the place was packed. It’s a very small place, but still, this little phở purveyor must be well known. In fact as I leisurely consumed my delicious hot phở, a line formed to get in. Actually, the hottest number at this little place was the Viet waitress that served us. I remember when I was in Saigon thinking that this city had some of the most beautiful women in the world. I’m glad some of them have migrated westward. Anyway, back to the phở… I’ll definitely be back.

My(newest) favourite phở place in downtown vancouver! Food is quick & tasty. Unfortunately for us, this location does get very busy so there may be a little wait. But its well worth it! :)

Famous for misunderstanding your take out order and giving you something else. Good chicken phở though.

Favourite vegetarian phở spot! Love that they actually cater to vegetarians with a veggie broth. It’s tough to find a delicious and clean phở spot in Van. Thank you thank you!

Not bad, tried my go-to dish vermicelli with spring rolls and grilled pork or chicken. Big portion as usual. They could seasoned the meat in a different way to make more tasty, but hey this maybe their technique.

Some of the best phở broth I’ve ever had. No lie. The portions are huge, the price is great, and the area is perfect for people watching. If you’re gluten-free(like myself) the back of the menu has a list of items to choose from — including all phở minus beef balls. I can handle that. My boyfriend and I both ordered the special(mine without beef balls) and easily could have split the bowl. The broth was clear, yet flavorful. You didn’t need to add a bunch of hot sauce or chili oil(even though the chili oil was very good). I could see this place getting packed during normal meal hours, we were here Sunday at 2pm so had an easy time. I wish we had a place like this near me! I’ll have to come back next time I’m in Vancouver.

This is my virgin post! Just ate here today for lunch. Ordered my usual rare beef noodle soup(Phở Tai). For some reason, my order took longer than everyone else’s. But on a wet rainy Vancouver day like today, it was definitely worth the wait. Broth and beef were superb and I didn’t even had to add any sauces. FYI they give out lemons, rather than limes, but it didn’t matter for me anyway. Definitely will be coming back. It was Phở-nomenal.

Great spot! We’ve only ordered To-Go here. Comes out to about 10 bucks each for 2 regular sized Phở bowls. I’d recommend their Phở Tai Nam or their Phở Dac Biet. I’m a fat@ss and all I need is a regular size serving. no need for JUMBO. A+

4 Stars for the phở. 2 for the pork bahn mi. I really enjoyed the flavours of the beef phở… sweet and savoury. Good enough that I didn’t need to add any chilis or much flavoring, just a big helping of basil. About 30 minutes after eating a bowl, I had an unquenchable thirst that could not be helped. When that happens for me, I know my meal had MSG in it. Which is fine, I understand it’s a flavour enhancer. But I live down the road from Chau Veggie Express, and their phở is amazing(and quicker). The pork bahn mi was tough and chewy. It seemed like the cheapest cut of pork that was available, and then marinated for a couple hours before cooked and My girlfriend thought the veggie phở was pretty good. It was nice that the tofu wasn’t too rubbery(her words). Service was top notch! Would I go back? Probably. I don’t head out on Davie street often, but I’m sure I’ll stop in for lunch now and again.

The Bun Bo Hue at Phở Goodness was pretty decent. If I had to compare I think I enjoyed the BBH at Baoguette a little bit more(maybe the broth was more flavourful, or the noodles or the selection/cut of meat)… My friend had their grilled lemon grass chicken and she said that’s what she usually orders there. It looked like it might’ve been the better option. Their salad rolls had cucumber sticks in it which seemed a bit weird to me… in any case, if I were in the area I’d give Phở Goodness another try!

I don’t know why I listened to people when they told me this place was good. I should’ve known better when I walked in it was busy but clearly people were clueless about what they were eating, dousing their bowls in hoisin sauce. Seriously when you do that you cannot taste anything except for hoisin sauce, so it becomes hoisin soup. Anyways about the food. The spring rolls that everyone loves — terrible. The meat inside wasn’t plentiful and the wrapper was just a wonton wrap not the traditional rice paper wrap, what a bummer. Their fish sauce was watery and bland, it didn’t come with any salad to wrap, and you call that authentic? The phở was bland! There was a lot of MSG although it wasn’t the worst I’ve had. There weren’t many flavors from the herbs and spices that are supposed to smell like. Meat was pretty scarce, I was slurping up noodles for 99% of the bowl. Don’t even get me started on the bun bo hue, it tasted like phở stirred in with some of the powder mix for bun bo. My minion had the rice dish with the most toppings(meat, spring rolls egg) it was terrible apparently. The meat from what I could see was tiny and the vegetables were going stale. Very very dissapointing. The service was non-existant we had to go up to pay and go up to get simple things. Water was never refilled and the server was rushed, yes it was busy but still try to put on a smile and be nice.
