Awesome Phở & barbeque… but I think it has moved to a new location… best in van in my opinion!

Came here a while back but just drove past it to say and decided to write my review. I remember the service was pretty subpar. The waitress didn’t pay much attention to the customers and it wasn’t even busy. She spent more of her time talking to another waitress and was actually speaking very loudly in Vietnamese to the other waitress while she was at my table taking my order. (I do know that phở places aren’t known for amazing service but this just got on my nerves.)
The food was decent. Nothing amazing. Lemon grass chicken was way too oily/​greasy so I didn’t take more than a bite. Phở was okay. Generous portions and 2 sizes available. Definitely not the best I’ve ever had but not too bad.
I would come here again if I’m really craving phở and too lazy to go far. It’s fairly close to where I live and I don’t enjoy taking the bus or walking in the rain much.

Visited Saturday the 29^th.
Food: 3 stars. Spring rolls were among the best I’ve ever had — soft and filled with minced beef. Decent phở.
Service: 1 star. We waited 5 minutes to sit in the nearly empty restaurant, and when we ordered, we were told that the brisket was off the menu. Prawns too. And beer. There was no beer.
Food took 25 minutes and when it arrived, my friend’s order was missing and the server informed us that they had actually had no seafood whatsoever. We were presented with a reheated plate of scrappy minute steak on rice. An extra order of spring rolls for the trouble and no discount on the bill.
It’s hard to keep a kitchen stocked when you have 300 menu items and I understand trying not to waste food ahead of the reno, but on a quiet night there’s really no excuse for not checking inventory BEFORE taking an order.
On the plus side, it’s cheap and pretty tasty. Maybe even worth another try after its reopening.

That’s for the ice coffee plus the small little extras lol. Either they know what they’re doing or I’m quite the coffee connossieur lol.
I love the places that specifically give you a jug of ice for you to individually put the ice cubes in after the coffee’s been dripped — some certain size and shapes i don’t like. Just kidding lol.
Here, they provide the thongs so you can place the ice into the finished dripped coffee glass because other places, while you’re waiting for the coffee to finish dripping, the ice in the 2^nd glass would be melting by then. I need it strong, not diluted lol.
And like how they don’t provide a straw. I always believe it’s best to drink this type of coffee right from the glass. Hits the taste buds more ;)
I usually come here for the spaciousness, one of the bigger ones with lots of 4-​seaters along the window view, and even a potential for a group booking for their room on the right.

We came for lunch on a Friday close to 1pm. It wasn’t too crowded and it had nice air conditioning. We ordered our food and waited for 20 minutes, which I think is too long for soup noodles.
— large phở special combo soup — The broth was excellent. Lots of tendon, trip, beef. Lots of noodles.
— large seafood noodle soup — My son thought the broth was a bit salty. The seafood noodle soup at some other restaurants comes with a lighter broth, but it looks like they gave him the regular phở broth which he wasn’t expecting. There were prawns, imitation crab, squid, fish balls. My son said he wouldn’t order this one again.
The price was reasonable. We will stick to the standard phở dishes next time.
Also, my son said the washroom was dirty. This is to be expected at a phở restaurant. So beware.

We came in here a few days ago. When we initially came in the restaurant was pretty empty and quiet. It was not long before we were greeted by a bubbly and cheerful waitress who quickly sat us down. She was very helpful and explained to us about dishes we were interested in and gave us some recommendations.
Will definitely go back!

My wife’s Aunt took us here when we were in Vancouver, BC. It was walking distance from her place. We got here quite late, but they were still open. No one else in the place but us. I was just hoping we were not going to be served leftovers.
Our server and the other employees (or maybe owners) were not too friendly. Hardly cracked a smile. Maybe they were not too happy with our arrival close to closing time? They were fast and efficient. So that helps. (2.75 stars for service)
All the food tasted above average, and the portion sizes were generous. We had the following:
Spring Rolls for an appetizer.
Chicken and Pork Chop with rice for our Aunt.
Charbroiled Pork with Vermicelli noodles for myself.
Charbroiled Pork with Vermicelli noodles and Spring Roll for my wife.
Our Aunt was a fan of her chicken and pork chop order so 4 stars from her. Both my wife and I thought our orders were fine. So 3.25 stars for ours.
We would probably return because of their convenient location and affordable prices. I am not quite a fan of Phở Hoang, but I can say that they are worth stopping in to find out if you may be a fan.

I used to come to this place 6 – 7 years ago and I don’t remember it being this dirty. This place just feels unclean — the place is dark and the washrooms are barely lit. We got a pair of chopsticks that still had food on it and the space was dirty.
There are many reviews about the bad service but it was fine for us. The food came quick and surprisingly, my beef ball with rare beef phở actually had RARE beef. The broth was tasty but I’m assuming there was quite a bit of msg in it as my dad, sister and I were extremely thirsty after.
³⁄₅ stars because the food is good, but the atmosphere and environment of the place isn’t the best. It’s unclean and just doesn’t make you feel at ease when you’re eating.

Disappointed! We used to come here quite often but haven’t been back in a while. The Red Bean with Coconut drink/​dessert is still really good and I would go back for this. They use actual red beans and coconut crème and not just coconut milk or ice cream with the red bean paste. The ice could be crushed more but whatever, still beats most of the other places we’ve tried!
The lemongrass chicken on vermicelli was just so-​so. Too much sauce and nothing special. The Bun Bo Hue was also lacking. We had asked for regular phở noodles instead of the thicker round ones (kinda like udon) and they forgot. We didn’t want to waste it so stuck with what was brought.
Overall an average meal that was made better by the Red Bean dessert. Many better phở and Vietnamese restaurants to go to!

If you’re looking for a good bowl of phở, this place is one of the best. The soup is more flavorful than the norm and is perfectly seasoned.

This is place to have a casual cheap Phở. Sometime you have ask for napkins, lime an sprouts. The service is not great, but they make your meal ready in about 5 minutes. So if you fancy a decent cheap Phở that is served super fast, and not too concern about the service, this is a OK place.

It’s not thaaaaat bad.
But it’s not awesome. At all. I’ve eaten here multiple times and I’m not entirely sure why. The service is usually hit and miss (if you’re sitting on the far end of the restaurant good luck getting any attention). I’ve had their regular phở bowls before but never their BBH. It’s not the greatest phở joint so I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular. The BBH came with a really tough piece of pork hock and the soup wasn’t as piping hot as I’d prefer. The soup was okay. It just tasted like they took regular phở soup and added hot chili oil to it.
Overall, the BBH was just okaaaay. Let’s just say I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.

I enjoy the salad rolls here as well as the spare ribs. Prices are descent. Phở is acceptable.
I don’t, however, enjoy the shoty service. I always leave shaking my head at what I’ve felt was neglectful service. The place always seems to be full of people while we are there but we’ve never had to wait for a table.
It’s convenient with a parking lot and descent hours. Food is acceptable (if you can shake the lack of service) at OK prices, so we will likely go back given the opportunity.

This place is not the best Phở on Main. I would barely put it in the top 5 but it is close, cheap and fast.
When I am heading home from work on a rainy evening and just want some warm soup for when I get home, I call here. I can call them on the bus and have it ready to be picked up in 10 minutes. They accept all forms of payment which is Fantastic and not that common at most Phở places.
The actual phở could use some work, they never give extra basil when for take out orders and it is definitely missed. It does require I good helping of sriracha and hoisin sauce to make it delicious. It isn’t bad though and for 6.50 $ you can’t really complain. The amount of beef you get in your Phở Tai is generous and the spring rolls are actually quite good.

What this place does serve up is quick food, for a cheap price, with decent hours. If you need a week’s worth of food in one sitting for under $ 20? This is your place. But watch what you order. And for me? I’ll stick with my beloved Hawkers for a cheap meal. It’s a pass.
I’ve been to Phở Hoang a couple times over the past few months and I keep hoping i’m going to change my mind about it. It’s a stone’s throw from my house and a much shorter walk then my current go-​to Au Petit Café, but it just doesn’t stand up. Today, it officially landed in my «desperate times» column.
I’m a bit under the weather so I opted for take out this go around. Service was brisk when I came in but not unhelpful — they pointed me in the direction of the counter quickly. There seemed to be some confusion with my order as they had made a large order of spring rolls (with rice and what not included) when I only wanted an appetizer. Where things got fishy was the lady who was helping me was on the phone, then she opened and rearranged the large spring roll dish, then she took my payment, and ran my debit card, then she opened and moved around the spring rolls again… touching food but never stopping to wash/​wipe hands.
In a kitchen, I some what understand this. Heck even serving, I can turn a blind eye sometimes as just a misstep while running your butt off but if you’re handling money/​phone constantly — run your hands under water between tasks because it’s definitely something people notice.
Even with all that, and as horrible as it’s going to sound, I could have brushed it off (hey, she wasn’t fondling MY spring rolls). Except then she did. And then she dipped her hands into the tub full of water and basil for the restaurant so she could get traction to get a to-​go bag. It was a little bit too much for me to handle. I passed on my spring rolls all together (even after paying) and opted to take only the phở tai home instead — which was average — not great but not horrible.
But the damage was done. Unfortunately, this little phở place is going to have to wow me to get back onto the regular Riley Park rotation but for the time being — i’ll hop elsewhere.

And that’s just the quality of food. The egregious nature of service (which, by the way, is a million times worse than nonexistent) angers me beyond words. Don’t bother coming, even if it’s New Years Day and Thai Son is closed.

Don’t trust the owner.
When I sat down at my table, a customer at the adjacent table was returning a red bean drink because it was a wrong order. I watched as the owner took it to the little sink and kind of left it there.
My friend and I placed our orders, including a red bean icy. After awhile, and believe me, I was watching her the whole time, she brought over the one by the sink!
I told her right away that I did not want that one and asked for a «fresh» one from the fridge.
After this incident, how can I be sure that this cheapskate did not recycle other ingredients or that the new drink was really untouched? How can you be sure that the beef you’re eating isn’t leftover beef from another customer’s dish?
I’ve heard it before. My friend got a take out from a Saigon something on Robson, close to Denman (don’t know if that restaurant still exists) and the domed rice had a swirl of soy sauce in the center as if «someone» put soy sauce on it while it was still in a rice bowl and then it was dumped out upside down. Yes, recycled rice.

Do you want consistently okay-​mediocre phở? This is the place. I don’t venture out to Richmond’s Phở Viet much, so when I want consistently decent phở, I come here. Ignore the crappy service and come for the phở. It always tastes the same. I have never had a really AWESOME phở, or a really crappy phở — it’s consistent. I never said it’s amazing or super tasty, just plain consistently decent.
Do you expect amazing service? If so, don’t bother coming here! The service here sucks. But if you can get over it and get some decent phở, this is the place. I mostly come here because it’s close to home, it’s never super packed, and street parking is convenient and free.

The soup base is good… 4÷5… dark, flavorful soup.
But let’s talk about the bad service, shall we?
1. The waitress forgot to give the bean sprouts for my phở… and when i asked for it she was like «Oh… you want bean sprouts?» in a very annoyed tone.
2. I ordered the salted plum soda. I was given salted plum water.
3. They said it’s cash only, but I see the credit card /​debit card machine right in front of her!

Phở Hoang is one of those places that are open decent hours, and serve consistent food. The food isn’t bad at all, but the phở is. well, average.
Parking is ample in front (on Main), as well as the side streets. Usually I get lucky and end up within 20m of the front door.
The interior is above average (for a Phở place), with mirrored walls, and decent tables and chairs with a carpeted floor.
One thing I really like about this place is that the portions are HUGE. The bowls of phở are so large that there’s literally no room to put the bean sprouts. The beef balls don’t have gristle (common problem with other Phở places), and the soup is decent. I always drink it all.
The biggest complaint I have is with the severe lack of service. The staff tend to like sitting back and chatting /​joking around. This I normally don’t mind, but it becomes a problem when I have to literally wait 5 minutes, then also walk to the other side of the restaurant and tap the waitress on the shoulder. Come on people, do your jobs. This has happened to me more than once.
Give them a try if you’re in the area.
