BOO… I was on my way to RENO on Dec 27th… I was dying to put tokens in the juke-box… And signing out loud while eating breakfast. I went in September 2015 and it was packed. And the food was YUMMY as usual… I am SO sad… It was my fav hangover breakfast spot. Close to downtown it was purfect… THANKSRENO… All the best…

A blast from the past. This is a classic diner complete with jukebox! Typical diner fare of western classics at reasonable prices. Smiles on the faces of the employees and the sound of the busy kitchen. Wonderful !!! I pray the renovations don’t ruin the ambiance and pricing. A real Vancouver gem. I’ll Be Back & back & back

People of Vancouver I regret to inform that Reno’s is closing their doors at the end of this month. Certainly not my fave, haven’t been there in 20 years(but heck yeah I’m gonna pop in this month for fries & gravy or maybe a breakfast. I used to cough up an extra 50 cents and get fries with my breakfast. Nom.) A true part of Mount Pleasant history. I agree, and sympathize, with every Unilocal review on this page. The three stars is for nostalgia’s sake. When I moved into the ‘hood 26 years ago I’d come in on occasion for the breakfast special. The first thing I learned was to avoid the coffee and get tea. I liked the rough and tumble atmosphere, the jukebox, the reading copies of the paper. To be sure the food has never been near as good as The Nice Café(which has the most intoxicating hash browns ever, and for this semi-vegetarian, the option of grilled tomato instead of meat is a nice touch.) However, back in the day the seating at The Nice wasn’t nearly as comfy as it is now, basically rickety booths and counter seats with no back. I found out about the closure last week from my hairdresser(hello Michelle @ East Vanity Parlour) and if you can’t trust your hairdresser, who can you trust? I also phoned Reno’s today to confirm. I can only surmise the lease is up and has skyrocketed. The first words out of anyone’s mouth when I tell them the news is, «They’ve been there forever!» and it is true. I’m not sure how long, I’m guessing 35 years, there was perhaps another diner in the spot before. The second words some people say, I know I did, is «Where will the poor people go?» Tim Horton’s is across the street and The Sunny Spot is the last Mom & Pop in the hood as well. The people that run Fable on West 4th are moving in next Spring. I’m not saying there goes the hood, and I’ll probably eat there more then I did at Reno’s, but changes are interesting. I’m currently quite excited about the new Phở shop opening up down the block across from the Congee Noodle House, beside Pad Thai(which, ironically, has the worst pad thai around, but all their other dishes are a-ok.) Goodbye Reno’s and oh, sheesh, I just remembered, earlier this month the Bodhi Choi Heung Buddhist vegetarian place on Fraser/24th just closed as well. I’ve been having their kickass lunch special 2 — 3 times a month for the past three years. I was actually much more gutted over that closure then this one. Same story. Lease over, price skyrockets. Grrrrr.

My favorite breakfast place has been hit with a broken air conditioner in the hottest summer in recorded history. And even with this they are still pumping out a fast, freindly inexpensive breakfast. It was a little warm. The owners assured us that it will soon be repaired. The doors were open wich helped to cool the interior. Breakfast of two eggs over easy two sausage pan fried potatoes two pieces Brown toast and a coffee with refill for just under 4 bucks. Fabulous. We will be back. Air conditioner or not

Rewriting my review and it’s still the same. That’s a great thing in this case. Same solid grub for breakfast, love the jukebox playing Beatles and Stones and their poached eggs are spot on. Had special #1 and an extra order of eggs Benny with mushrooms and tomatoes to replace the taters. It’s a bit run down, but that’s the character of the place. Takes me back to a day’s before I was born. An era long gone, but the food and the service is classical. The gals, if you get to chat with them are friendly.

Reno’s is a greasy spoon. It has good honest diner classics, priced well, cooked well and served on mix matched plates and cutlery. It is what it is, the service is friendly and to the point and it good for people watching. I’ve been to many trendy places where the food was not as well prepared. It is not gourmet but it isn’t trying to be either!

How is this place still open? Gross doesn’t begin to describe it… All that was missing during our«experience» was spotting a moving rat. Filthy doesn’t begin to describe the washrooms. The vertical blind covering the windows are splattered with grime. And our meal was served on dirty plates — encrusted egg still on the plate. The food? We chose the green pea soup to accompany our sandwich special. It wasn’t soup. It was pea powder and hot water. Unpalatable. After sending that back the sandwiches arrived on the dirty plates — we walked. I took our plates of food back to our waitress and told her the plates were dirty. No lie — she says«but the food is still good» I almost threw up. Stay away!!! Walk down the street to Martini’s for comparably priced eats. Clean & good service.

Exactly what you’re paying for. There is a huge choice here and it’s cheap and easy going. Great spot to watch the world go by right on main an broadway. There are some characters to enjoy. The bathrooms are not the prettiest but they are clean. I had a nice greasy breakfast with pancakes for around eight dollars and was happy with the value. It’s kind of the laid back diner from some movie.

This place is EXACTLY a three star average. There are those who will complain about the cleanliness, the food or the service and then give it 2 stars. There are those who will LOVE the dive-quality, the cheap & hearty meal and the incredible service and give it 4 stars. It really depends how high maintenance you are. In no way is this the perfect dive diner. In no way is it the worst food, bad service or filthy. It’s a quality place ran by quality people. Don’t expect too much and you’ll think it is a-ok. This diner attracts a following for good reason.

Cheap eats and friendly staff! This place isn’t fancy, the décor is very tacky and None of the dishes match. HOWEVER … Cheap good eats with friendly people is truly the root of a greasy spoon. $ 3.99 breakfast. Many things to choose from. Eggs to Chinese food. Try it out.

Nomnomnomnom I arrived beyond famished. No joke i ordered blueberry pancakes(extra charge for blueberries), eggs over easy, potato hash-browns(otherwise they grate them), sourdough toast & sausages. As good as it gets for a greasy spoon!!! Blueberry pancakes were out of this world good DEFINITELYNOTPANCAKEMIX!!! Sourdough bread was also very good. The rest was classic diner delicious. Literally no complaints, speedy service friendly staff and I’m still thinking about that breakfast, heading back this weekend for more ;) (had to minus a star for the fact that the women’s washroom was the sketchiest i have ever been to)

I went here for lunch aka all day breakfast aka pancake special. The place is definitely a dive, but the service is fast and I liked that they had a large selection of greasy spoon items. I had the pancake special(obviously) and I wasn’t disappointed! the only downers are the loud juke box in the corner and the lack of real maple syrup. Other than that, I’d definitely go back. The pancakes were large and fluffy and hot and I felt so full and happy after that. It came with two bacon, eggs and sausage. Super yum.

My boyfriend loves his breakfast, and usually while walking along main and broadway we would pass Reno’s. It was on our list«oh yea we should try that sometime» places. We decided to go there as a date then see a movie. Good thing the movie(The Wind Rises you should all see it) made up for the breakfast This place is clearly under staffed. The tables were stacked in dirty dishes. We placed our orders at the counter, and were given a number for our breakfast. It took quite a while for us to find a table. We choice the cleanish one we could find not stacked in dishes. My boyfriend ordered a coffee. He just looked sadly at his coffee that was watered down. He words were along the lines of «McDonalds coffee is better than this.» My tea was Lipton, ugh. Okay it’s cheap but there are plenty of cheap places like Evelyn’s that serve breakfast and don’t water down their coffee or serve Lipton ok? It took a while for our food to arrive. It was ok ish. I guess? I wasn’t going to kill us but wasn’t «oh my god this is the best cheap breakfast ever.» my toast was burnt, and we just kinda hide our disappointment from the server who for the place being so busy was nice. The worst part really was the washroom. No door on one of the stalls, and the washroom with a door had no lock and it was the handicap washroom. The washrooms were just filthy and I just thanked my lucky stars there was soap and tp. I honestly can’t recommend this to anyone unless you only have 5 bucks and want a filling breakfast. Just don’t use the washrooms, don’t expect anything too delicious, and really don’t order tea or coffee. Maybe bring hand sanitizer. Wait till your done eating and head to the Timmies across the street for cheap drinks.

Cheap breakfast, good value and prepared well. The older lady at the counter is a total sweetheart. I come for the sunrise special at least once a month, pop a few quarters into the juke box and watch the entertainment at broadway and main. Nice big booths are great for hangover breakfasts, and the coffee is always on. Its rough around the edges but I think its fabulous.

Cheap breakfast, fast service… coffee(not good coffee, but coffee all the same — only one free refill, boo!) What’s not to love? I found the review calling this place«scary» really odd. definitely an interesting mix of customers, but I like it that way. (disclaimer: I’ve only ever had the Breakfast Special here — 3.95HOLLAHHH!!)

I love Renos. Not enough to give it more than 3 stars because once there was mold on my toast and there is rarely toilet paper in the bathroom BUT I do love it. Sometimes when the lady brings you your food she makes this sound to get you really excited about having received your food. It sounds like a mix between a ghost and a small child getting a present like«woahhhhhhhhhhh Ooooohhhhh». Anyway it works. I never waiting more than 15 – 20 mins for food and it’s great to have a place that scares even most hipsters away.

Have you ever wanted to see what Main Street was like before pretentious hipsters took over with their«pour-over coffee and vegan/gluten-free everything but the bacon»? Check out Reno’s. This place has the most eclectic type of regulars I’ve ever seen; not to mention the randomest conversations ever. As for the food… What do you really expect? You can get a full meal at about $ 8 to $ 9 per person, with a cup of joe. The quality’s not quite there compared to others around it, but it doesn’t exist for that. It’s for folks who have a few bucks extra to go out and eat at a place where the servers & owners recognize them and can talk sports. It’s worth at least one visit before making up your mind about it. Honestly, if it’s a choice between buying a McD’s breakfast or Reno’s, I’d at least like to support a small, local business.

A strange, homeless crazy man started talking about conspiracy theories to me while I stood in line. He continued his conversation despite me ignoring him and giving him the back of my head to talk to. While strange and crazy, he also seemed extremely articulate and his rantings about terrorist organizations were probably entertaining, but I preferred to just order my breakfast and run away from him. I get enough crazies in San Francisco, I don’t need to run into more when I’m on vacation! Came here for a quick breakfast before hitting the road to Kelowna. Its quaint and greasy diner atmosphere is typical of most diners of the breakfast variety. Denny’s might be cleaner and shinier, but where else can you get a plate full of breakfast food run over to you by your waitress and Pink Floyd coming out of the juke box on the wall? Yes, you heard me, there were songs from«The Wall» playing away and there’s nothing like hearing Waters and Gilmour crooning away first thing in the morning. There’s a few vegetarian options and I went for the eggs with hash browned potatoes, although now I’m wondering if I should have tried the French toast just because it’s supposed to be great. I was aiming for a higher protein, lower carb breakfast at the time though, so eggs it was. Maybe next time I’m in town I’ll try the toast and listen to more of my favourite band from the 70s. You can’t go wrong here for a decent breakfast at insanely cheap prices.

A decent greasy spoon for breakfast — great after a night out on the town. Everything was cooked well. My sausages were tasty, eggs cooked the way I liked them. The potatoes were kind of meh. Nothing spectacular there. I ordered white toast(guilty pleasure) and the toast I was given, I think was white bread, but used whole grains? It had a very interesting texture. Service was pretty fast and is served cafeteria style. The décor is pretty random and most of the seats are pretty torn up. If I’m ever in the area and craving a super greasy breakfast, I’ll be sure to keep this place in mind. Note: They’re cash only
