OK, let’s be realistic here. What’s the name of the place? Romer’s BURGER Bar. It’s not Hy’s, le crocodile or even the Keg and as is often the case, people don’t keep in mind what a place really is when visiting or rating it. Pub, is probably the best descriptor ’cause that’s basically what it is; a neighbourhood pub that wants to be known for its burgers. People eat or grab food from MacDonald’s all the time and what do they expect? MacDonald’s. So why expect a burger bar to be 5 stars? There are lots of really good pubs and burger bars in Vancouver. This is not one of them. Not«really good,» that is. Average, ok, mediocre. So, on that basis, I would give them 3 stars. But to be fair, I like it better than a three, for location, patio and ambience. You can find a better burger in Boston Bar but it’s not a place to hang for a couple hours. We have been to Romer’s on Kerr several times just because it is a very convent place for US to go with friends, for socializing, not«out for dinner.» We almost always order stuff you eat with your hands or just a continuous round of changing appies. Beer and wine. No point telling you what’s good because you like different stuff, right? However, nothing has ever been disappointing, to any of us, because we keep what it is, in perspective. Service, neeya, and it most likely won’t improve until the week day construction workers are done down the road. See, they don’t expect much, cleavage instead of croutons, someone they can tease, throw a tip at and feel good about who they are. The food to them is better than bologna on white and a sandy salad brought from home and eaten on an upside down bucket. In that context, service is a bonus. Also, for now Romer’s is the only game in town. They WILL need to jack it up when the new River District brings on some competition. Romer’s on 4th is a notch better because better is expected there but Romer’s on Kerr will sit at a comfortable 3. I’d give it extra for location in the summer but that would be cheating. Oh, and one other thing; a burger, sweet potato fries, a beer, tip and taxes IS going to push 30 bucks anywhere so, whoever whined about $ 60 for two, must have come over from Egmont.

This experience was a big fail. I was pleased to come in a little earlier on a weekday and see it not as busy! Seated quickly but there was a lack of servers and we waited a while to place drink orders. I ordered a beer and away the waitress went, then another person asked to take our drink orders(a manager I’m guess based on the blazer) so we said someone already did. The waitress came back and said there’s something wrong with the keg of beer I ordered so I picked something else. Then the manager comes back with original order, I said no thanks I already ordered something else because there’s something wrong with that keg. She abruptly puts the drink down and says«there’s nothing wrong with it I just had to bleed the line for a while» plain rude and bad customer service. I know that means sometimes mouldy lines and beer that has been stagnant. I shouldn’t have to accept the beer just because she’s lazy. She leaves and I taste the beer and yep it’s completely flat. I’m not an expert but I frequent many breweries and do my own home brews and I know the kolsch I ordered shouldn’t have been so flat. Ugh. Other waitress comes and she kindly takes it away and brings the other order. Now the food. Wings to start and the tip of them being 6.5 was dead on. 7 tiny wings in a basket for 12 $! What a scam. We shared the shrimp tacos and there was nothing fresh in them, no cilantro salsa nothing, not even a slaw?! They at least came with fries but I’ve had better tacos from food courts. The burger I ordered was cut in half and it was served all fallen apart as it was put down, seriously the patty was in four pieces. The girl dropping it off said«sorry» then walked away. I’m all for a good Messy burger if that means sauces etc squashing out but if it’s just a tiny patty that’s crumbled to pieces and you have to eat the whole thing with a knife and fork. It was dry. The whole bill came up to $ 75. I’ve had better meals at red robins for half the price!!! This is a burnt bridge! They’re only still open because there’s nothing else in the area. Customer service fail from the manager, the person plating who allows sloppy crap to leave the kitchen and the food deliverer who said«sorry» then scrambled off.

Came here for dine out 2016 and I split the dine out menu + a regular menu item with a friend. For the dine out, we got the calamari appetizer which were okay… although not very flavourful and pretty oily. For the entrée, we ordered the jerk chicken tacos(comes with fries) and these were also very bland. They come in a roti shell and this was similar to a tasteless taco shell while the chicken was moist but again, not jerky and the mango salsa/cole slaw made no impact. On the other hand, I actually loved the fries as they were light and fluffy on the inside and not too greasy. Overall, I would not suggest ordering these tacos here but I am a huge sucker for tacos so it did satiate me. We also shared a standard burger and this better but not by a whole lot and was extremely messy to eat. The R sauce was flying everywhere and the bottom became a pretty soggy mess. Finally the best part of the meal was the drunken donuts that came with dine out. These were very fresh and light but deliciously sinful at the same time. Overall, I would not suggest ordering tacos here and to stick to the burgers, but I am a huge sucker for tacos so it did satiate me. Also, the dessert and fries were the best and prices are NOT cheap. You’re better off with burgers from somewhere else… but good service and a nice place!

Meh. First time for me. Super excited to try it out. Crowded into table. No elbow room at all. We had reservations but did not have enough room so they asked the people at next table to move down. Service was slowerr than slow. My magic mushroom burger looked so lonely ala care. Gotta pay extra for fries. Really!!! My burgers toppings were skimpy and my patty was burnt on edges, broken into 3 pieces and considerably smaller than everyone else’s. My sons burger was delivered to someone else, who opened it up to look, ate some fries and then was taken from them and given to my son. Eww. Based on this experience I will not be dining here again

Location location location to bad the food and service is amateurish, who puts meatballs and yam fries in a bowl then has no side plate to put you utensils between bites! Little things show that attention to the simple things are overlooked

My wife and I are Romers fans! They make some awesome burgers! A little on the pricey side, but a nice place to eat out once in a while. The last time we were there(last Sunday for Dine Out Vancouver) the deep fried pickles and the calamari were a little blah. Not enough seasoning in the batter. For that, and the prices a little on the steep side, we’ve knocked a star off. All in all though, great place to go if you want a juicy, delicious burger! Bring some gum if you’re ordering the garlic fries though. You’re gonna need it!

Still lousy service and non enthusiastic attitude from staff. traffic here has increased due to the too lazy to cook folks in the new development near by. Food is pricey with small portions. Too bad Red Robin isn’t close by.

I came here on a first date … the location is a bit tucked away. I didn’t even know this place existed until my date said he wanted to try this place out. It’s right by the water … I went during late summer and it was after a good rain. Sitting by the window … OMG … there were GNATS everywhere!!! The burgers are definitely gourmet and at gourmet prices. This place reminds me of a Red Robin and a Cactus Club meshed together. Their burgers are deliciously MESSY to eat. Not recommended if you’re trying to eat politely to impress your date hahaha. the place is clean and tidy. There is NO air conditioning though! Ugh! IMO not really a child friendly place. There is no kids menu and as mentioned above … gourmet burgers at gourmet PRICES. Not a place to go if you’re saving your pennies and feeding hungry teens. One thing I saw that was a little not-so-classy was that the waitresses were sitting at the bar counting their tips … umm … nu uh …

This place is alright for burgers. It is very messy so prepare to have napkins — this isn’t a negative thing. Wings were not my favourite though. We did order take out so not sure if the quality of food went down or not.

The Man’s Man Burger was to die for! Great location, it was too dark to really enjoy the view unfortunately so I’m going to have to do a lunch here soon!

Do not order the cheesy cauliflower if you’re on a date and plan to make out with the person beside you. Neither of you should be forced to suffer through this experience, and I learned that the hard way. That is the only«bad» thing that I can think of about the food. I have never had deep fried pickles like the way they do them at Romer’s. I didn’t even know you could deep fry something that wet without it becoming kind of soggy. Now I know differently. This place is so off the track and casual that I can safely say I didn’t know it was there until the day we visited, and I’m kind of pissed at myself because the location is incredible, the food is decent, and the staff are all very friendly. This place would get 5 stars, but the table was sticky. I know, I know, this makes me sound like I’m being picky, but trust me I’m not. I scraped the table with my fingernail and there was a super noticeable amount of gunk on my finger. I wouldn’t eat anything that dropped on that table even if I saw someone wipe it down repeatedly with hand sanitizer. For me, at a certain point, cleanliness is worth a star. An amazing fried pickle/burger/garlic cauliflower of death experience does not negate the tactile realities that come with a table covered in what felt like industrial adhesive. :)

Surprised how busy it was at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday! Had to wait a few minutes for a seat. While waiting, saw all these orders for fish and chips go out which looked really good; so that’s what I ordered. My partner ordered a fish burger and we had a little salad and the deep fried chicken wings for appys. The little salad was very little but good(had freshly shaved cheese with pecans). Salt and peppered wings were great. Fish burger was good, and the fish and chips were amazing! Light and crispy batter and the fish was fresh and light tasting as well. It was only one piece but well sized! Service was decent; great atmosphere esp. on a nice day looking out and watching a tug boat go by with it’s barge. Wi-Fi is hit and miss. Saw the bad reviews, but we had a good experience. It’s really busy here, so that definitely says something. Had the option of doing a survey and a free dessert on next visit for doing so, done!

The burgers were served on brioche bread — too much«bread» for my taste. We ordered the blackened chicken Caesar salad. Interesting with quinoa in it as well. The view was a nice touch — view of the pier on the Fraser River. A nice alternative from the White Spot or Cactus Club if you’re by the River District.

12 Burger choices, ranging from $ 9 – 20 which one should I pick? I could possibly be the most indecisive person alive. I’m horrible, I want everything that’s why I can’t decide. It was down to either the Man’s Man for $ 12 or the Ultimate Kobe for $ 20. My cheap Asian side overpowered me to go with the lower priced option. …continue reading at BentonTheIncrEDIBLE

Every few months, me and the bf go to Romer’s to get our burger cravings fixed. This time around, I decided to get the fish tacos. Bad, bad idea. The tortilla shell was a mixture between soft and hard. I couldn’t tell which one it wanted to be. Perhaps it had an identity crises? Whatever it is, it definitely wasn’t flaky — it had crunchy, almost burnt bits to it. The fish was just not cooked well. There was no flavor to it, and the coleslaw that was inside was just bland. It was actually a terrible fish taco. I ate 1 because I was hungry, but after that, the flavourless food ruined my appetite that I couldn’t eat anything else. It came with fries, which are NOT the same as the ones you order separately. It tasted like frozen McCain fries, and I didn’t even finish that. So come here for the burgers. Nothing else.

I ordered the mans man burger and parm truffle fries. The fries were very oily and quite disgusting. The burger was alright, nothing to write home about. There is false advertising on their menu because they claim it is the best burger that will ever hit your lips. I wanted to order the mini donuts but I did not feel good and had to rush out. I threw everything up when I got home. I never get sick so this was such a terrible experience for me. The restaurant is nice though, I love the river district so perhaps I will return but only for drinks…

I feel conflicted about Romers. I went to Romer’s twice, the first of which inspired the glowing review I previously wrote. I went a third time and my experience was… not ideal. The food was on par with usual, good portions, good taste.(Except the popcorn was extremely salty.) My only complaint is that every time, the bun is never warm. Luckily the patty makes up for it. Why my experience was only so-so: I recommended the place as a venue for my friend’s farewell dinner. I called on Wednesday to make a reservation for 10. The fellow that picked up confirmed it was the River district location. Took my info down and we were good to go. Saturday 6pm comes around, I get a call from my friend informing me that apparently there is no table for us and asked what they should do. As my husband was driving(we were running late) I was madly Unilocaling and calling all the nearby restaurants for tables but as it was a Saturday evening, no one could accommodate a group of 10 until 8pm. Our party had driven from all over(Coquitlam, West Van, Richmond, Burnaby) to come to Romers and we ended up standing outside the restaurant in the rainy cold. I was frustrated and went in to speak to the staff. I showed them my phone record to verify that I called the correct Romers. Their initial suggestion to me was to go to the Romers in Kitsilano — gee, no thanks. While I was thoroughly peeved that an employee messed up my reservation and nearly ruined our evening, I have to give props to the manager on shift. I think her name was Stephanie? She quickly accessed the restaurant, the waitlist and tables and offered that they had a reso that was late and would give me their table if they still did not show in 10min. So yes, in the end we got seated and ate. But it will definitely make me think twice about returning.

This is a great location along the Fraser River in East Vancouver. They are known for their burgers but you do have to pay $ 6 more for plain fries, which I don’t get. The service was alright last night, the waitress may have been tired. I think they have a great happy hour menu from what I saw. The burger was good but my friend and I found the burgers messy to eat.

The service was quick and quickest was the bill but they didn’t bug us about staying longer to chat after our meal, though there were plenty of empty tables. I definitely think that they need more rest erodes in this area as it is expanding and there’s a river right there. People are coming here because there isn’t any other choice. They do have nice burgers, fries and awesome looking donuts w great drinks choices as well. If I lived in this area, I’d be a regular at least monthly. For a gourmet burger price I expected something great, especially when the waitress told us our burgers were huge. Nope regular sized and it was the special of the day– The Messy Poutine. It was not much poutine nor fries. That was quite disappointing. The patty was well made 3.75÷5 but definitely one of the top 5 burgers I’ve had. Nothing stellar but for a regular hang out resto that is trying to look like a bar for young families who are still trying to have a night out w their single friends, then this is the place to try it out. Though I think it’s way too loud and crowded for kids except when they open up the patio so the kids can run wild and free.
