Should you find yourself wandering through Chinatown and looking for a great little Asian import shop, Rustic China fits the bill! From the outside, it appears to be a mish mash of all sorts of home décor and fashion items, and that is basically what it is, but there are a few gems hidden within that must be searched out. When I came into the store just recently, everything was on sale, which was definitely a bonus if not a deterrent for me to get the heck out of there before I ended up with a million Asian knickknacks! Never mind though, there are some beautiful antique Chinese furniture pieces from tables to cabinets, giant stone sculptures and vessels(one being used to house a few goldfish), sparkly, gaudy and cheap jewellery, those trendy scarves that are seen everywhere these days for a lowly $ 10.00, along with a few other cheapy fashion knockoffs(most likely, the real thing anyway…), traditional Chinese jade sculpture, paintings and wall-hangings, amongst other such treasures. The piece de resistance and wholly unexpected service provided at Rustic China is theme photography! Complete with traditional Asian costumes, the doorway to the studio is lined with photos of a happy looking couple in ‘Asia’(a background is used) wearing traditional garb. How fabulous is this?! I giggled all the way out the door and considered how much fun it would be to drag my friends and boyfriend in here for an impromptu and unnecessary photo shoot!
