What a cute, little place for tea. I ordered the Chai made from scratch, blended with almond milk. Served in a teapot warmed with a sweater. The staff cared enough to bring honey just in case. It had a beautiful but not spicy taste. Just right for me. It wasn’t quite warm enough for my taste, and hence the 4 stars.
I also had the crumpet with ham and swiss cheese with dijonaise. VERY well done. Tasty in every single bite. Somewhat pricy for what you’re getting, but the server did take the time and care to prepare it.
Great place to relax (until two guys came in and chatted constantly). Will go again to try the wide variety of tea.

This tea shop smells so good! It must be a combination of all the teas and baked offerings.
A friend suggested that we stop in for a pot of tea. We shared a pot of the chai tea and I had a chocolate pistachio cookie. The pot of tea was delicious.
I liked the cozy and relaxed setting of the shop. We settled into a corner bench and spend a good portion of the afternoon chatting away.

Came here with my aunt and grammy for her birthday for afternoon tea. I was quite disappointed when I’d requested the crumpets be cut into 3, but instead were cut in half. even though there were 3 of us at the table.
The portions were incredibly small for the price and the sweet/​salty combination was not very well balanced (the crumpet being the only dominating salty/​savoury thing in the 3 tier tower — I suppose this is alright if you enjoy your afternoon tea heavy on the sweet side. even then, the taste was sub-​par)

Came here with a bunch of my girlfriends for high tea on my birthday! The owner, Nathan was really great at accommodating our group and was kind to brew each of us ladies a pot of tea, as many of us chose to share an order of high tea with another friend. The food was delicious, and it’s at a reasonable price. I’d highly recommend Shaktea!

Great spot on Main street; quiet little tea house with a fantastic selection of teas. First time there and most likely not the last. Had an homemade crumpet which was very tasty. You can buy the tea to take home with you. Board games available too if you really want to sit and relax. If ever walking pass just nip in :)

Great food and amazing coconut tea.

I visited ShakTea on a very hot day with a friend for a voucher for High Tea for 2. The High Tea was scrumptious from the top tray to the bottom tray, especially the sandwiches. It isn’t as filling as Fairmont High Tea, but definitely satisfying. A tea was included but because of the heat, iced tea was fine. I tried the Ginger Lemon, but the ginger taste was too strong for my liking.
The décor was quaint and cute. The service was excellent. The worker was very pleasant and upbeat and knew his stuff. The air conditioning is in the back, but he opened the door to allow a breeze. It was quiet during lunch, which we appreciated.
I will definitely be back to try more tea and hopefully find one that suits me right.

I came in a few weeks ago on a weeknight to get some work done. There are a lot of outlets and it is nice and quiet on a weeknight so it is a good place to do some work. I decided to order some tea and crumpets since I hadn’t eaten dinner yet.
I tried to order the Lemony snicket crumpet but they were out of two of the three ingredients that go on top of the crumpet. Tried to order the Johnny Peach, but they had very little peach compote left. Wow, really? Their menu is really small, so my options became extremely limited. I ended up having a combination of the two and it wasn’t good. Also, for $ 3.75 a pop, these crumpets are teeny tiny.
Since I wasn’t full yet, I decided to order the scone trio which comes with three tiny scones and a teeny thimble of jam and a teeny thimble of what they call devonshire cream which it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT. I studied in Devon, so I know the real deal. It was runny and it tasted like salty yogurt. No, just no.
I have to say that the tea tasted nice but it came to me warm, not hot, as other reviewers have mentioned.
I’m feeling very blah about this place. The service was friendly and I did like the quiet atmosphere with the comfy chairs, so I see myself coming back to give it another try. Maybe next time I’ll stick to macarons and ask for my tea piping hot:)

So this is a quaint place. You should know straight off the bat that I used a Groupon which was $ 20 for 2 ppl.
So don’t be fooled by my pic b/​c these items are very small. The desserts range from the size of a looney (in diameter) to double that size. These sweet treats are miniscule, so don’t plan on getting full here. Don’t go starving lol. So for $ 10 a person I thought that this was an ok deal.
First tier: macaroon, chocolate pb cup, a lemon tart and a mini cheesecake bite.
2^nd tier: apple strudel and mini scone
3^rd tier: a savory crumpet (larger in size) that you get to choose. I chose pear and brie.
So this was a nice LITTLE treat but probably the least satisfying high tea experience I’ve had. I’ve been to many more that are way better. So if you’re a high tea rookie or new to the «game», you could give this a shot. If you are a high tea fan like myself, you may be dissapointed.
And it is NOT worth the regular price. Groupon only.

Shaktea has some of the best barista service, Vancouver has to offer! I thoroughly enjoy spending my time here to do work in a peaceful environment.

I’ve been here three times in the past few years, two of those visits being very recent, and must share with you my new favourite tea blend that, to my knowledge, is only available at Shaktea: vanilla honeybush rooibos and chamomile.
This blend was highly recommended to me by a very friendly female staff member, and after sampling it there I quickly bought 50g. I have purchased many teas in my lifetime, but this is the one tea that I have ever finished so quickly. It does not contain caffeine and goes really well with honey, and because of the chamomile it makes a nice pre-​bedtime tea. But really, it’s my anytime tea. And all my guests have enjoyed it too.
My most recent visit was not as great. I went to Shaktea on a weeknight specifically to buy a new, bigger bag of this amazing tea. I asked the male staff member for their medium size, and after asking me again how much I wanted, he gave me the small size. I double-​checked with him before paying and he corrected it by adding more tea. However, he did not put a label on it with the steeping and portion instructions. Not a big deal, but I think the small things matter.
I can’t really rate Shaktea for their food as I haven’t had it since they changed ownership, but if you couldn’t tell already, I am a huge fan of the vanilla honeybush rooibos and chamomile blend, so I am definitely going to keep coming back for more. And you should try it too!

I must say, I’m a bit of a tea-​snob, and Shaktea did not disappoint in selection or quality. As well, the ambience in nice and relaxed and the staff helpful.

Was pleasantly surprised to find the «free topped crumpet» offer through my Unilocal app so I went in and ordered a coconut chai latte and got to choose the crumpet. I went with the croque monsieur. There was only one person working so it was a while before I got my food and tea. The tea came in a lovely pot and tasted really amazing but was sort of lukewarm. The crumpet got to me 5 minutes later but didn’t look impressive. The crumpet was soggy and the toppings were mediocre. It was something I would’ve attempted to put together at home when totally desperate for something to eat and I think I forced it down just because I was really hungry. Other than that, the place is really nice and cozy. A plus is that there’s a lot of outlets for your devices.

The chamomile milk tea was perfect, and their crumpet was also good. Probably wouldn’t have paid for the crumpet, though.

Tired from shopping down Main Street, my friend and I came across Shaktea. As we hurried into the shop from the icy cold outside, we entered a warm and cozy area with wooden chairs, tables and benches and a few cozy couches too!
We were a little confused on what to do as it was our first time here but the waitress was friendly, gave us a menu and told us we could find a seat anywhere and she’d come take our order soon. Of course we chose the 2 cozy couch seats next to all the board games! We decided on scrabble, because the Connect-​4 board was taken and we didn’t want to get too intense with Clue, Chess and Snakes and Ladders. A variety of books was present too.
The menu presented with a wide array of teas from Black to Green to Rooibus and more. There’s an option to make any tea a latté with a $ 0.50 charge. One pot is about $ 4.75 for one and $ 6.75 for two people. I opted for the Matcha Latté ($ 4.75) and a butter crumpet ($ 2.50). Student discount for this combo is $ 5. If you check in on Unilocal you get a free crumpet with your order of tea as well! Sadly, despite me showing the check-​in deal and it being acknowledged AND I went up to ask them about it again, it never came. It wasn’t too busy but this was the only fault during our stay here.
My matcha latté was creamy and came unsweetened so it had lots of matcha flavour. It was mixed pretty well, no matcha bits at the bottom, just a matcha paste. The crumpet was warmed up nicely so the butter melted all over the crumpet holes. The jam added a sweet touch to the chewy crumpet.
I tried a sip of my friend’s Matcha Honey Lavender Latté and it was super delicious too! She had a London fog macaroon as well and it was full of flavour but it might have been dethawed, but it was still good.
My other friend ordered a tea and it came ready steeped in a teapot with a cozy in it. He enjoyed his tea.
Power plugs available for the tech dependent people too. Overall, a quiet and cozy place to enjoy your tea by yourself or chatting away or playing games with a friend or two. I’ll definitely be back for more tea and games, and a scrabble rematch!

I was invited back now that there is new ownership and I am happy to report that on the customer service front it has vastly improved.
The old décor is gone and it is more like a chill coffee house with a lot more friendly atmosphere.

One of those rare places where you would add your favourite list on the very first visit. Laid-​back, nicely quiet, cozy place with super friendly staff. And for the tea, ask for their own pick, you won’t regret it! Strongly recommended for studying, working, reading a book or just an afternoon tea. Nice music, and great internet speed. Loved the place, solid 5-​star!

Friendly and knowledgable staff! I went there with my friend for high tea. We didn’t know which kind of tea to choose since there were loads of options on the menu. The staff helped us, and we got what he recommended! Their tea selection is awesome! I have yet to try some of them! I enjoyed every single bit while I was there. I will go back for more high-​tea and for their tea!

Shaktea is very study-​friendly; there are plenty of outlets to charge your devices and it’s pretty quiet compared to a coffee shop!
Their tea selection is fantastic, I’m pretty indecisive so the lovely staff is always here to help and their advice has been successful so far! The best thing about their teas is actually in their service — they take the leaves out after the perfect steeping time so the tea never gets bitter. This is perfect for slow drinkers like me! Their baked goods and crumpets are divine, a lot of the condiments have tea in them.
You can get loose-​leaf teas as well as teas to go, but I think I’d rather stay here. You’ll probably find me here reading a book, and this is coming from an avid coffee drinker!

I visited Shaktea for the very first time today and it was awesome. If you are looking for a great place to relax and read a book, study or just have some quiet time to yourself, this is definitely the place to be. The atmosphere when I went was very comfortable — Nathan and Kay made everybody feel welcome and it seemed like most of the customers there have been coming to Shaktea for awhile.
It’s not often that I sit down in a café to read and sip on some tea, but I think after going to Shaktea that I will have to make it a regular routine. I ordered the Honey Lavender Matcha Latte and the PBO crumpet. The latte was a very generous serving and came in a mug that was almost the size of a bowl! The PBO crumpet tasted fresh and was a great mix of flavours. But I think my favourite part of the meal were the scones. I was sitting right next to the prep area and I smelled the scones that another person ordered, and I just had to have them. The scones were crisp on the outside but warm and fluffy on the inside, and came with a side of devonshire cream and preserves. So delicious!
I wasn’t planning on buying any tea to bring home, but I ended up leaving with a bag of Luna’s Organic Peace tea which smells heavenly and a pack of tea filters (100 for 6.95, David’s Tea sells 10 for $ 5…).
Overall, great experience. The staff were knowledgeable, urgent and friendly and the tea and food were delicious. Definitely coming back :)
