Ventured here for breakfast on Sunday morning. We are out of town and heard great things. We were not disappointed. Wonderful ambience and felt right at home with a diner type setup. Ordered poached eggs and waffles and it was all amazing! Best waffles I have ever had. Also the hostesses were friendly and energetic!

Typical mediocre diner food. A local recommended this place. You can tell the eggs are liquid from a bottle. The breakfast potatoes were incredibly bland and some of them raw. There was barely any turkey on the turkey sandwich. Only bright side was the delicious coffee, but you can get that brand at other local restaurants. The waitress also was not that friendly.

Great food, fast service & a very eclectic vibe. I had the eggs benny with ham which was very tasty & my guy had the veggie burger which I have to admit was pretty darn good for being meatless :) If ever you’re in the Kitsilano area, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Sometimes it is just magic. Walked in at 11 a.m. on a Sunday and a table was waiting. The server was pure love. I stand up and and she immediately sensed my bathroom confusion and pointed the way. Why do their poached eggs taste better than mine? Bennie was good, coffee arrived when needed. Long line as we left. Fab.

This will be 2 plate reviews combined in one My first brunch experience at this Vancouver breakfast staple was way back in 2013. I always wanted to come back and finally, after these years I can finally try for the second time. First time brunch I ordered one of their classic egg benny’s which was fantastically delicious. The eggs where simple and flavorful.
The second brunch order, however tempting it was to go for the tried and tested Eggs Benedict, I elected to try the Lunch section side of the menu with the Turkey Sandwich plate. The turkey sandwich was juicy doused with gravy, all prepared to my tastes. Although the accompanied mash potatoes was starchy, so I knock them down a few pegs on the overall plate. The atmosphere is a retro style greasy spoon diner decorated with old memorabilia which works well with this café’s distinct character. The servers and regulars are chatty and friendly. I give this café a 3.5, a decent brunch place and I recommend over Joe’s Grill, but only go during the off peak hours which is usually during the week.

Great place for a quick lunch; I’m not a fan of the breakfast. Once I ordered the pancakes and was disappointed that they tasted slightly cinnamon-y. I like that in a french toast, but not pancakes. Anyway, the Reuben sandwich is great and they serve fantastic milkshakes. Try one to go!

I don’t know what I did to the server this morning ! But I have never been so disappointed with the service. Rude and sarcastic is not the way I like starting my Monday ! I won’t be back

This place is usually very busy, so be ready to queue. Nice and big selection for breakfast and lunch. Portions are huge so be ready. Pancakes were OK but not the best in Vancouver. Their hot sauce is really good, and you can purchase some to take home with you. Would next time try the salty breakfast.

I have wanted to try this place for a long time. When I had walked by at brunch time in the weekend, I always saw a long line of people waiting and it made me curious. It is quite unique on the inside — It’s like we have stepped back to the fifties or sixties. They have omelettes and different egg dishes and pancakes, too. The food is quite nice and they also have healthier options in case you want to watch your calories. They also have gluten free bread. It would be great if there was an option to have the omelettes with salad instead of bead and chips.

Wow If u want shitty home fries and shitty bacon and overall shitty breakfast this is the place to go! The oil hasn’t been changed in weeks the home fries were pretty much BLACK!!! One thing I hate is paying so much for food and leaving the restaurant still hungry !!! Anyways When I told the waitress she was like well when you come towards the end of the day that’s what happens they have been sitting there all day ! Ummmm what did u just say? Shitting there all day??? Isn’t it breakfast all day til 5:00pm? This is beyond nasty! They should make the breakfast fresh on the spot of the order ! Anyways the waitress did give me 3.79 $ off for the cappuccino which was probably the best thing we had there ! But it’s for sure not worth the money what so ever ! PLEASECHANGEYOUROILASAP !!!

Very retro interior. We were amazing at how odd yet appealing it was. I personally didn’t take any pics because I’m low on memory. We came here with a BOGO coupon. It can be used on any dinner items up to $ 14. We ordered: Appetizer– Cajun Oysters($ 10.99−4.5÷5): Loved the cajun spice. The oysters were still juicy and moist. It came with two pieces of toast. My friend found it too spicy but I thought it was just fine. I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to pepper. It indeed had lots of black pepper in this dish. Mains: Fresh New York Steak Sandwich($ 16.99−3÷5): The thickest toast we’ve ever seen. The steak was cooked at a perfect medium rare. Super tender but lacked flavour. We were provided with ketchup and hot sauce but my friend did bother to ask for steak sauce. It was served with a choice of fries or the soup of the day. Sante Fe Chicken Wrap($ 14.99−2.5÷5): Our server did asked if I wanted cajun spice on my chicken and because I loved it so much with the oysters, I said yes. When putting in my order, I heard him say ‘blackened chicken for the wrap’. I didn’t know he literally meant blackened chicken. My chicken was burnt. Since we were using the coupon and technically this dish is free, I didn’t feel like complaining about it. I just used up all the sour cream, guacamole, and salsa to cover up the burnt taste. I had a side of fries. I would have gotten the soup had I known my friend was also getting fries. We assumed it was double deepfried as it was super crispy and hallow inside. Service was good. Our server entertained us with some light jokes and answered all our questions.

We adored Sophie’s Cosmic Café — the food is jsut as they say it is, fantastic. Would go back again and again. Good coffee, great service. Busy, so food’s fresh. All in all, great.

Sophie’s hasn’t changed much, and that’s not a bad thing. I haven’t been back here since 2004 and its just as fun as I remember. Being a diner, they’re pretty relaxed about when food is ordered. I went here at 10:00AM and ordered a burger(which I remember being really good) and it was! burger was pretty big, but the fires, oh the fries oh so good! and that burger was soooooooo delicious. to quote Ted from How I met your Mother — I really want that burger! we also got the french toast which was massive. I don’t think that was one serving but if it was, we ate 2 meals out of it! very tasty with their own house ketchup!

This is my go to restaurant when I am in the Kitsilano area. The décor is something to be experienced. It takes kitsch to the level of fine art and gives the place a great vibe.
The staff is terrific, and happy even. Such a treat from the downcast eyes of the servers in some trendy places. Maybe they too like the ambiance. The food is down home cooking. There could be more choice, and for sure LESSSALT, unless they are trying to wean off the older crowd. Oversalted vegies are not healthy. That being said, their turkey meatloaf with mash potatoes is lovely and inexpensive for a supper.

I didn’t expect much coming here due to the Unilocal ratings but was I wrong. This place has some cool décor to it. Lots of things to look at while you wait for your food. Anyway I ordered the smoked salmon cream cheese eggs benny. It was the special of the day. In my previous review I referenced Red Wagon as having the best eggs benny I’ve tried but this one over here at Sophie’s competed really well. I was so satisfied with it. It had the slices of smoked salmon, red onions, cream cheese, and egg cooked how it should be, with the sauce all over it. Those potatoes were so good as they weren’t ordinary at all. The size of my plate was enough for me. I will definitely have Sophie’s in mind when I decide to have breakfast again sometime.

Great place to go for brunch and breakfast. Have to go at other times to check it out as well. Their décor is one of a kind and will make you reminesce of some of the cafes you will find in Montréal and all over Europe. I love its funkiness and the retro feeling that they have. I can see that there was a lot of care to put in all the collectibles in the café and just simply fun to be in. Great place to go for reunions w old friends, people who are out of town, a place to catch up w old friends or to go to for a first date. Really loved the atmostphere there and the service was fast and great. I can see that the waitresses try their best to make it personal and if you are a regular, I can see them give you special attention and care. My friend and I both had the light breakfast and their fruit cup was the most generous I had seen in awhile. The poached eggs were done to perfection w the yolk melting just enough, loved it! I really enjoyed my time there and can’t wait to be back again. I heard that the french toast and belgian waffles are great. I will be back again.

Food: 4⁄5 Service: 2.5÷5 Value: 3.5÷5 Came to this cute little diner last weekend for a late lunch and I had the Sophie’s Cosmic Workout burger(bacon, lettuce, mushroom, tomato, pickle and onions). Juicy, delicious burger with extra crispy fries and a side salad for a great pairing! A tad pricy for a burger at around $ 16 but i was only able to finish half the burger and took the rest home(I’m a sucker for 2 meals in 1). My friend had the oyster burger and said it was super juicy as well. Service is friendly but a tad slow. The place was packed which is a bit surprising for the late lunch hour. A solid 3.5 stars. Great comfort food, would come back to try their brunch menu.

Cute little, diner stuffed with fun and eclectic collectibles from the 50’s and 60’s. Great atmosphere! The menu is filled with a twist on the usual diner fare. The milkshakes are out of this world. A must visit for out of towners.

Didn’t get a chance to actually taste the food. We were asked to get out and wait outside. But other people could stay. Didn’t take a name or anything. Real friendly. NOT… Looks like a place famous for its attitude rather than the food. It’s only breakfast. Is it hard to be nice to your customers? Just really dislike bad service/attitude. We didn’t think it is appropriate to give them our hard earned money and support such poor tasteless attitude. Way a go Sophie.

I ate here today for the first time and really enjoyed it! The service was really friendly and I was impressed with the speed that the food came out. I had the eggs Benny with hollandaise on the side and eggs poached medium. It was delicious but one of my eggs was undercooked. Other than that I was really impressed. Would definitely recommend this place and would return!

Ok so I had high hopes for this place… and well I’d say they didn’t really wow me. The ambiance is very cool and funky on the inside but we decided to sit on the patio. It’s ok. sort of cute but they have a bee problem. I had bees bothering me most of the time. They have a bee catching device in the trees… uh…not enough my friends Food: my eggs and bacon were great but the«home fries» were grosse. Honestly it’s a potato(not even peeled) cut up and heated on a skillet. Not even browned. They were disgusting. Me and my sister didn’t eat them. The toast was buttered with unsalted butter. I’m sorry but that was not pleasant. When asked for salted butter…“sorry that’s all we have”…uh okaaaay… The waffles were yummy. They tasted good! So I reccomend those. Our service was friendly! I honestly don’t see myself coming back.

It was my first time coming to Sophie’s and I was surprised to see how busy it was. Several groups were outside waiting to be seated. The wait was less than ten minutes so it wasn’t too painful. I ordered the traditional eggs benny and an iced viet coffee. The viet coffee was really good. Nice espresso. The eggs benny was also really good. Nothing too special, but certainly nothing wrong with it. I was impressed with how hot it stayed for the entire time I was eating it. The pan fries, while softer than I usually prefer, made up for it with the seasoning. I got a side of hollandaise for my fries and it was yummy too, but cold. Sophie’s is great for what it is. A cute diner with a kick of nostalgia. Their menu isn’t too experimental but they have plenty of classic dishes that will be sure to have something for everyone.

Sophie’s Cosmic Café Vancouver is as old as I am. It is an iconic Vancouver diner serving hearty breakfast and brunch starting 8am. The restaurant itself is ecentric with red and hot pink décor. Their menu has a good variety as with their random knick knacks, collectibles and junk throughout Sophie’s. There are omelettes, egg benedicts, milk shakes(try the espresso milk shake!), sandwiches, burgers and desserts. Sophie’s Café is one of those go to breakfast places in Kitsilano if you are looking to end your diet. The struggle is real. Sophie’s makes a great neighborhood hangout and breakfast is always better with friends. Deluxe Burger 12.95: A charred seasoned beef patty with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and mayo. Served with cripsu fries. The burger itself is not very greasy. So you won’t feel too weighed down. Spanish Omelettes 10.99: A seasoned filling of tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, herbs and green olives. Served with hash and toast. Very filling and I like the fresh vegetables to lighten the dish. Made with farm fresh Free Range BC Eggs. Sante Fe Egg Benedict 12.99: Poached soft and a creamy yolk. Homemade salsa, guacamole on homemade cornbread with black beans. A very carb heavy good old 50’s diner food. Served with lots of hash. I prefer my hash more crispy than mushy. And I prefer an English Muffin than cornbread simply because it gets soggy fast. But I guess that is their point to have the Hollandaise sauce and egg yolk all melt together. Breakfast at Sophie’s Comic Café is always relaxing. Servers are friendly and food arrives prompt. We like seat by the window to get an extra does of sunlight. Sometime to wake us up. We will definitely be back for another round of catch up with our friends.

Sophies Cosmic Café’. 2095 W 4TH ave, Kitsilano. One of the best corners to ppl watch and catch a quick breakfast. I relished the al fresco patio on a brisk vancouver saturday morning and it was an awesome way to begin my day amidst the warm friendly wait staff. Amazing sausages and although I prefer shredded hash browns, Sophies pan fries are the best in the gvrd. I was pleased to see a staff that genuinely enjoy their gig ‚.the way the staff worked together was like that of a well choreographed dance, swiftly executed by the best teamwork I’ve seen in a while. I will be back just to ppl watch and next time I’ll nosh a lunch entrée! ‘appy Noshin’ Brianm FoodieatLarge

Well… honestly, the food isn’t that great but the staff here are so courteous and accommodating that I had to give them the extra star! The club sandwich was quite massive and it came with a ton of fries, but the sandwich itself was just mediocre and I felt that they toasted the bread too long. The crust actually cut my mouth a bit so I ended up dipping the sandwich in ketchup and hot sauce. My friend’s meatloaf was so-so but the mashed potatoes were awesome! The diner is decorated with lots of old and funky toys/misc pop media goods so it was nice to just reminicse on our childhoods.

My girlfriend and I came in here today to have some dinner and it was a better experience than before. They made my meal gluten free for me which was appreciated, however, my taco salad forgot the sour cream, salsa and guacamole… the reason for Mexican in the first place. I was hungry and still ate it. They had my little Ponies to play with, therefore, played with some ponies. My table of 2 become a table of 4 with all my ponies.
