Sophie’s Pet Palace

I always judge a pet store first by the way they treat others pets that come into the store. Every time that I have been here someone behind the til has been warm and friendly toward both the pets and the owners. It takes a pet lover to run a store and these guys love furry friends. I sometimes get fresh treats here for my lab Freedom who loves jerky and anything and everything in between. Prices for their other items are fair and everyone is always happy.

I was running epically behind schedule, out of the regular hood and panic searching The Drive for a place to get the kittens’ their dinner. But pet food in this house doesn’t mean I can make a last minute stop into 7 – 11 and grab a bag of «no-​name» whatsit. No no, my particular monsters eat only raw food… and only VERY SPECIFIC raw food (spoiled brats).
Sophie’s Pet Palace saved me from a bad «Mom» moment by stocking Red Dog, Blue Kat raw food at totally fair prices. The lady behind the counter knew her stuff and we quickly launched into the benefits of raw food diet chat with well rehearsed ease. They have an impressive selection of other brands and it was interesting to note, they don’t seem to carry a lot of the big name treats (ie. Temptations) and instead lean toward the more healthy, local & natural versions of snacks. Interesting. Unfortunately, said particular monsters are Temptation girls to the end… but I did make note for some of my pet having cohorts in the area.
And another surprise check-​in offer on arrival. Pet stores are just hitting that out of the park lately!
All in all — solid little place. Would definitely return and might actually call about ordering in larger quantities as I think their prices might come in under my beloved local Tisol. Cheers to saving the day Sophie’s!

it’s hard to go wrong here… they’ve got a bit of everything for cats & dogs and more. Plus the staff are super knowledgable and helpful. I love it!

I have been coming to Sophie’s for years, and love their selection of HEALTHY dog and cat food (sometimes tempted to try it myself…) The staff are all very helpful and friendly — the owner (Mary) in particular is a wealth of knowledge, who is cares deeply for the welfare of our animal friends. They also have a large selection of supplements, tons of toys, a wide array of leashes and collars, locally-​made doggy raincoats — it seems like anything you need, they will find it for you.
My only concern has been with a flea medication that I bought, that I later found out was ineffective for a full-​on infestation, contrary to what the staff told me.
All in all, it’s a great place to spend your money — a real community-​based local business!

Yup; «there’s a bitch of a boss» is what the sandwich board out front says… But more like a nice bitch, all of then for that matter… The girls are super cute, love pets, and always happy with a sweet Eastside tattoo look going on… Oh but the pet food and toys are very well priced and less than most stores. I like coming here so the bitchin boss’s flirt with my dog and I get all the enjoyment…

Our vet, Dr Calland, recommended we check out Sophie’s for their great selection of supplements, herbal remedies, and selection of raw and premium processed foods. We were greeted by the owner (Sophie? no, the namesake was her pug who was her inspiration to open the store). One gets the feeling that she is very passionate about providing our companion animals with the best. I’ve never seen such a large selection of collars and other goodies. Definitely worth the trek to Commercial Drive. The great eats in the hood are just a bonus :-)

Sophie’s Pet Palace’s slogan is «Where a bitch is the boss.» They’ve got a huge selection of Petstages toys, which remind me of developmental baby toys. I love those things. When my dog Henry was a puppy he slept with a «puppy cuddle pal,» that could be heated for warmth. Aww. Sophie’s also sells food, treats, and doggie clothing.
