South Hall Banquet & Wedding Palace

When I first looked at South Hall’s online menu, I wondered, ‘How can they provide such a comprehensive menu, at such an affordable price? Something must be wrong with this place…’ I was in this situation 1.5 years ago as I was planning my wedding, and went online to find a review for South Hall, and came up with NOTHING! I had been to South Hall for Indian Wedding Receptions, but not for off-​site catering…
Hence, my review is based on my wedding reception which was catered by South Hall (Moti Raja Catering) in August 2012.
My wedding at Heritage Hall (Main and 15^th) was catered by Moti Raja. The owner, Rajan was amazing. He was always accessible, competent, and helpful in his suggestions. I am Chinese, and my husband is Indian, and Rajan put together an amazing menu that included Chinese and Indian food; our guests were blown-​away by the quality of the food, and the set-​up and décor of our reception. To be honest, I was reluctant to have Chinese food cooked by a non-​Chinese establishment, but Moti Raja did a top-​notch job. They made fresh naan and roti in their mobile vans and even brought an ice cream machine to serve kulfi.
From the first, Rajan was always warm and friendly. Gone are the times when you have to bring a parent with you to meet with the caterer. He patiently answered my numerous questions, unhesitatingly agreed to fold the napkins to my specifications, and even returned lost items to guests after the wedding. I realize that my trepidation with having an Indian caterer serve non-​Indian food was not an issue at all. Rajan and his team did an amazing job explaining foods to guests, and circulating food in a timely and efficient way.
Rajan and his team arrived early in the morning to arrange the table cloths, seat-​covers and warming trays. They even put our centrepieces on the table for us, in addition to our wedding favours. Everything was beautiful; beyond our expectations. Rajan worked with our wedding coordinator, and things went seamlessly. I am especially appreciative of all the special touches Rajan included to make our day amazing. I highly recommend using South Hall as your caterer. Even if you do not want Indian food, I strongly encourage you to go in for a tasting, and try it out. At first, I felt nervous, as I was unfamiliar with the protocol regarding meeting with caterers, and tastings, but Rajan’s charisma and honesty are refreshing. Weddings at their Banquet Hall only represent a small slice of what Rajan and his team are capable of; they make western, Chinese and Indian food! Don’t hesitate — you will not regret going in for a consultation with Rajan. He is absolutely amazing!
I was very specific about how I wanted the table set, curtains drawn, cutlery placed, and Rajan executed everything to a ‘T.’ His staff and bartender were courteous, efficient and provided excellent presentation in their demeanor.
If you are considering Moti Raja:
In terms of affordability, Moti Raja will do an amazing job, and you will have spent a fraction of what you would spend with the other popular wedding caterers in the city. What’s best is that Rajan and his team will never run out or food, so you will not have to worry about your guests being hungry. Further, there isn’t any of the ‘cake-​cutting fee’ nonsense. Rajan rents out table cloths, napkins and cutlery at a fair price. Since I just had my wedding one month ago, I know how difficult it can be when the bride and groom are trying to pay for the wedding themselves. It’s challenging, especially when you want to provide an open bar. I strongly recommend hiring Rajan’s team, which includes a bartender, purchasing your own alcohol, and giving it to his team to take care of for the evening.
Using Moti Raja Catering is a practical, economical and impressive solution to making your event unforgettable. Your guests will absolutely love the food, and you will not have to worry about a thing being in Rajan’s capable and reassuring hands. Like any bride, you will have jitters, but knowing that Rajan is taking care of your reception is all you need to calm your nerves. I cannot thank Rajan enough for his exemplary work. If I could do it again, I would still go with Rajan, and I recommend him to anybody who is having a reception of any nature.
