Hair removal is not just anything anyone can do (well). With experience and dedication, Sugarbox believes in modesty, hygiene, and comfort when it comes to Brazilian waxing. That means proper draping, unrivaled experience, professional products, comfortable temperatures, customized final details (bling anyone?) and no double dipping.

History

Established in 2006.

Our early beginnings started with the Chop Shop Hair Salon, Granville Street in a VERY small attic space (we called it cozy) for 2 years. Then we moved to both Yaletown and the Chop Shop, Commercial Drive due to high demand. We have now been in our very own, big girl, grown up, business space at 1025 Cambie Street in Yaletown for 4 wonderful years and counting.

Jane’s career began after completing her Aesthetics and Cosmetology training out east in 1999. She then spent 6 years at Spa Utopia where she introduced them to the Brazilian. After that, she ventured into skin re-​surfacing and laser hair removal at Yaletown Laser Clinic; giving her an advantage at treating ingrowns, scarring, and answering skin inquiries. After all of this valuable experience she branched out on her own to start Sugarbox in 2006 out of a little attic space at the Chop Shop, Granville Street. Sugarbox has now grown into our space in Yaletown with our amazing team.

Jane is committed to hygiene and guaranteeing a clean environment when it comes to waxing. Sugarbox is one of the first businesses to be vocal about SINGLE DIP wax spatulas to prevent cross contamination. We can say with surety that she is dedicated to this industry and is always open to your questions, concerns, and feedback to ensure you have the best experience possible.

BEST. EVER. I had heard about Sugarbox from sooo many girlfriends that I just had no choice when it came to book an appointment for such a delicate matter as my wedding was coming up. The location is great, very easy to find. The ladies in the studio were extremely friendly and welcoming, you are offered water/​tea and even a glass of champagne! What a nice touch! :) They do make you feel at ease, cuz honestly I was a bit nervous… But boy was I the happiest client ever after it was all done! In fact, when my specialist said «And we’re done» I was like «Really? No way! I don’t wanna leave this place!» I actually said that cuz it was amazing! I could’ve never thought waxing could be so relaxing and easy. Thumbs up ladies! Thank you for great work you’re doing!

It seems oddly personal to leave a review for a waxing spa, but at the same time, I really value hearing from the customers.
This was the first time my bikini wax has not been utterly, unmanageably painful. Yes, they ripped the hair from my body and it didn’t hurt that much. I have a low pain tolerance, and the other places I’ve been use hot wax. Sugarbox uses a slightly cooler wax, and they also put an oil on my skin first to kind of protect it.
Also: hygiene! This was the first place I’ve ever been given the fun little disposable panties! And they don’t double-​dip in their wax.

This place was a great find, thanks to Unilocal of course. Got my eyebrows waxed by Jessica, she is brilliant, I would recommend her to anyone. She talked through everything and explained the parts I need to grow out etc etc. I have never had my eyebrows looking so good. I will definitely be back

This is the first place I’ve ever gotten a Brazilian in Vancouver back in 2010 when they were located at Commercial drive.
I always go to Sarah as she is amazing and quick, and always a great person to talk to. She makes you forget you’re even getting waxed!
Sugarbox itself has friendly staff and I love their décor. Jane has done a very great job!
However, I am taking off 2 stars because:
1.) Over the years the price of a Brazilian keeps getting more and more expensive. $ 70 for first time and $ 63 for return.
2.) They stopped doing promotions for customer appreciation. I remember they had a deal where I was able to get 3 small wax jobs for free in the package.
I understand that having a spot in Yaletown is expensive, and in order for them to keep up with their fancy décor and fancy service, they need to make more money. To be honest, they should have stayed at a lower rent, saved money and used the extra money instead of charging the clients so much more. Just my opinion.
I no longer go to sugarbox because I found an awesome place with just the same great customer service and only paying HALF the price and spending half the time getting waxed. (My return only took 10 mins!)

I am an esthetician myself, but doing my own brazillian is a feat I can’t do. This place is expensive, sure, but you are getting what you pay for: a damn good brazillian! If I have a special occassion or I am flying to go visit my partner in the US, making an appointment here is my first thought. The staff is delightful, cool and casual but professional. You won’t get a better job done other than here.

Katherine is AMAZING!
She makes it look easy! I have awful eyebrows and she fixed them in minutes. No one in my 10+ years of waxing has been able to make them look so good!
So happy with the service, price, such a gorgeous salon too.

Amazing service. I love the atmosphere and the energy. You can feel it as soon as you walk in. Went there for a facial and the whole experience was first class. I was kind of tense going unkind of a busy day but by the time I walked out I felt like I was walking on air.
Kim was the person I saw. She was very understanding of me being late. She is amazing at what she dose. My face feels smooth and totally fresh. I love the products they use. I am a fan and will be a regular here. No wonder why they have got so many amazing reviews. 5star for Sugar box all the way. Thank you for an amazing experience.

I went in to have my eyebrows waxed and tinted for the first time in my life. I immediately felt right at home. Kim was thorough and friendly. I am new to the wax game and she sold me on it. I’m not sure if it was the delicious tea given upon arrival, the warmth of the staff, or Kim’s passion for her craft, but I already can’t wait to return. I have been converted.

First thing’s first: this place is expensive! Not just a little expensive, but very expensive. $ 25 + tip to get my eyebrows waxed and I’m a guy! So when I booked an appointment with Sugarbox, I was expecting a premium experience that justified paying $ 25 for something I could easily get done for $ 15 somewhere else.
Things started off fairly well. The day before my appointment I received a call to confirm and the person who called was polite and extremely friendly. She asked me if I had any special instructions for my appointment. I told her that I’ve had some bad experiences in the past where my eyebrows looked uneven and it was very important that they were shaped correctly. She assured me that Marsha (the girl I was seeing) would take great care of me.
Unfortunately the results were nothing to write home about. My eyebrows were even, however, they were not shaped at all. Instead they were simply cleaned up and then I was ushered on my way. When I expressed concern that they didn’t look very sharp, Marsha said she didn’t recommend taking more off today and that I should wait until next time to make adjustments.
Upon seeing my friends, they agreed that it didn’t look very good and a friend of mine took some tweezers and helped me out. After 15 minutes of his help, my eyebrows finally looked the way they should have when I left Sugarbox. Considering that they’re one of the best and most expensive places in town, I really didn’t feel like I got my money’s worth and I definitely will not be returning.

Was a bit disappointed that you have to be over 18 for hair removal … down you know where and it never said on there website so as a 17 year old I just wanted to be in good hands for my first full Brazilian waxing and was willing to pay and tip the best since they have such high reviews on Unilocal.
It sucks coming all the way from New Westminster to Yaletown to get turned away because you’re only 2 months away from being 18. What a shame, I am most definitely not going to bring a parent along since I’m not comfortable with the fact of paying $ 70+ for … Yes, for what exactly is what they will question. To bad they have these «regulations» placed for people my age to not get it done… I mean hair removal… I get getting a piercing and a tattoo is a no-​no but I wish they could’ve had a way around doing it this time…

I went for my first Brazilian wax yesterday. I made an appointment with Sarah who was very nice and very knowledgeable. She made me feel comfortable and made my anxiety go away through pleasant conversation. I must say i thought it was going to be excruciatingly painful but it was about 95% painless! Now when I say that I don’t mean that I didn’t feel anything, I just mean that it wasn’t the type of pain where you’re screaming and wishing it would be over. Think like quickly ripping off a Band-​Aid. You feel it but it’s not unbearable. Some parts were more sensitive than others.
Granted I took Advil and used a numbing cream beforehand; however that made the wax feel like it was burning my skin which Sarah told me might happen as others who have used Emla cream have experienced this. The wax was at the correct temperature and next time I go I plan on just taking a couple of Advil only. Plus that cream is expensive. Just saying.
Overall very pleased with my results: mostly painless, no hairs left, and very professional welcoming staff. It is a bit pricey but it is so worth it to have it done properly. My friends sister went somewhere that claimed to be credible and had bruising afterwards. You definitely get what you pay for here so I would absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in waxing. Also a side note: the place is super cute! Nice décor, there is makeup and other products you can look at while you wait, and they have candy dishes filled with gummies — it’s like they know me so well!

I decided to try Sugarbox since they have such great Unilocal reviews. I think it would have been an amazing experience if I had never had a Brazilian wax before and had nothing to compare it to… but I have been getting waxed for years and Sugarbox is not anything overly special. They only use stripwax, which is fine and safe (I have had both strip and hard wax in the past) but I prefer hard wax as I find it hurts a lot less, in my opinion.
The esthetician who did my wax was great, super friendly and walked me through the whole process. I did notice that I was bleeding a bit when I left, that’s another reason why I prefer hard wax as I find I never bleed from it. I think they are priced reasonably, if you go to any nice wax places you should be looking at paying at least $ 60+. All in all, I have nothing negative to say about the place but they definitely are not exceptional in any way.

These girls are really well trained and nice. It’s no wonder why people love this place. They are patience and they try their best to accomodate your needs.
I came here for the first time and I really enjoyed it. I’m super scared and get super tense when it comes to brazillian since it hurts bad for me. Marsha took her time to make sure that it was as painless as possible and I was as relax as possible, instead of rushing through it, which is really nice.
Everybody was so nice and the place is beautifully decorated so it’s comfortable for everyone who comes here AND I believe they are pet friendly! How nice! Definitely coming back!
It is crazy expensive, but you know, if you have had bad brazillian before, you will know how to appreciate a good one.

Had an appt with Jessica. She was amazing. I thought the Brazilian was gonna hurt like shit, but it didn’t! She talked with me throughout keeping me distracted. It was quick and painless (kinda). At the end she told me to exfoliate and not do any physical activity for a couple days and she gave me her card for questions.
I’ll probably come back again :)

I had my first appointment at Sugarbox today. This place really is all it’s cracked up to be. The atmosphere is great, the staff is super friendly and considering you’re getting body hair ripped off, as enjoyable as it could be!
I also picked up some their white chocolate body butter while I was there — it smells aaaamazing and I couldn’t resist.

I went to Sugarbox today to get two services done.
I made an appointment a few days ago online and it still is so easy and straight forward to do. I made an appointment with Jessica Berto.
First off everyone at Sugar box is so friendly, welcoming, and fun! If i could spend most of my time there I would because these girls are so much fun to hang out with (i was really early for my appointment).
So Jess came to get me, brought me to the room, asked me how I was feeling and gave me basic instructions. She made me feel so at ease and comfortable. I mean i was getting a brazillian and being exposed like that is a little nerve racking. Jess talked to me the whole time and yeah there was some pain but it was over really quickly. A lot quicker than I expected. I was surprised when she told me i was done. She gave me after care instructions and gave me her card so i could e-​mail or call if I had any concerns or questions.
I’ve already made another appointment to see Jess again and I seriously can’t wait.
P. S. if you get to meet Winston you’ll love him! He’s a sweetheart.

So I have been back to sugarbox since Wency’s departure and it wasn’t the same.
I felt very uncomfortable. My waxer just didn’t make me feel as comfortable as I did with my previous waxer.
She did not carry on the conversation there were many awkward pauses in between our conversations.
I will probably not go back here as they increased their prices too. I love the atmosphere of the place it’s so cute but for the price and my relationship with the new waxing lady just isn’t the same.

Since I’m going on vacation for a few weeks, I decided to splurge and book an underarm, full leg, and french bikini wax. I saw all of the 5 star reviews on Unilocal,so I decided to try Sugarbox.
First off, this place makes it super easy to book appointments online. I was easily able to schedule all of my desired waxing procedures in the same morning. When I got to the salon, everything was pretty, clean, and girly. Whoever designed the rooms and décor did a fantastic job.
Wency was amazing! She’s super efficient, friendly, and made the 45 minute appointment (yes, she did a full body wax in 45 minutes!) fly by. She was also really precise and made sure everything was smooth before the end of the appointment. I also really appreciated how sanitary Sugarbox is. There is definitely no double dipping or reuse of any materials, which is important for these salons. The wax and products they use is really high quality, which I think really helps the experience.
Overall, my appointment cost me $ 147. Sure it was pricey, but it was the best waxing experience I’ve had at a salon (and I’ve been to a lot of salons). I will most definitely be back.

The most fun you’ll ever have getting hair ripped from your body.
It’s been a year and it’s still consistent high praises for these folks. Why? Because, as Lindsay said to me today — they work at it — and they do. Every time I come into this place, they make a point to make me feel welcome.
Case in point, I walked in today for a 4pm brow rippin’ and was greeted with champagne. Why? Because it was Friday at 4pm. I love these people.
However, it’s been a year since i’ve frequented this little gem of a place. I will admit, i’ve been cheating on them with another hair ripping haunt in Kits but though my nether regions get plucked elsewhere, i’ve yet to find a brow babe that kicks as much ass as Lindsay. I’m a natural blonde who dies her hair jet black from a bottle… when it comes to brows, especially black eyebrows on fair skin, there’s a very small line between «vintage» and «Adams Family». In my year away, i’ve hit a few Adams Family cues so it’s damn good to be back.
Here’s the lowdown a year later:
1. Champagne at 4pm on Fridays. It’s worth mentioning twice.
2. Jelly Bellys in the waiting area — you smart, smart people.
3. Their online appointment booking is still dead easy.
4. They now carry a make up line — I’d have to return for more info but i’m fairly sure it’s a salon exclusive line.
5. Lindsay is still the best babe of the brow. (i’ve had one other person do my brows here and it just wasn’t the same. Trust me on this one)
6. She also gives exceptionally helpful cardio advice. Bonus points!
7. It’s still expensive — $ 36 for a brow wax & tint but it’s true that brows can change your entire face shape. Great brows can make you look polished; bad brows can make you look… well lets just say I learned the hard way that it’s worth the extra dough.
So i’m making it my mid-​year resolution to keep these puppies plucked, because $ 40 is worth a glass of bubbly, a handful of sugar, 30 minutes of exercise advice and sweet, sweet eyebrows. It’s really a package deal sort of place.
